Torah Videos for the Deaf on Jewish.TV

20-year old Lubavitcher rabbinical student, Joshua Soudakoff, teaches Torah in a language that most people don’t understand. ASL (American Sign Language) is Soudakoff’s vehicle for spreading Torah and Chassidus. Now, since the founding of Jewish Deaf Multimedia, he is producing Torah videos for the deaf available on-line, including a weekly parsha series.

One Jewish.TV viewer who signed as “Laura from Hollywood, FL,” commented, “I teach ASL at a Yeshiva school, so this is especially pertinent. I am so happy someone took the time to post videos. I’ve been telling my kids that there were resources out there, but WHO KNEW!”

“Basically, much of the Jewish world is based on the ability to hear,” said Soudakoff. “Praying in a minyan, reading from the Torah, and listening to a class all emphasize hearing. There are also several commandments that depend on sound, such as listening to the shofar, or listening to the reading of the Scroll of Esther. It’s often challenging to make the best of what we are able to participate in.”
