Rabbi Joins Canadian Armed Forces Full-Time
Rabbi Lazer Danzinger, only the second Canadian army chaplain since World War II, has joined the military full-time. He is now stationed next to Toronto at the 32nd Canadian Brigade. Rabbi Danzinger decided to transfer from the reserves so that he could work with soldiers around the clock.
On July 16, Danzinger formally transferred from the 32nd Canadian Brigade headquartered in Toronto to Canadian Forces Base Borden 100 kilometers north of the city. The rabbi told the Jewish Tribune that he decided to transfer from the reserves so that he could work with soldiers around the clock.
“It will be a great move,” the one-time member of Chabad.org’s Ask the Rabbi team said. “I find the work so rewarding, so fulfilling. I decided to go full time because of the need that I see in the forces. As a reservist, there was no way I could meet that need.”
Danzinger’s posting will allow him to commute daily from his Toronto home. At Borden, he will provide spiritual care to students at one of the base’s many training facilities.
Halacha Wanted!
1. Does anyone know if a frum yid is allowed to give an oath?
2. Is it not possible to “affirm” instead of taking a religious oath? (I assume an athiest wouldn’t take a religious oath!)
must be a mistake
“only the second Canadian army chaplain since World War II”, wow the army only needs two chaplains for everyone?
The Banayans

To # 1 the negative person out, there Rabbi Danzinger affirms. He is a great person, and for you to cast doubt anonymously online shows your own true colors. It is so easy to hate! Stop!

Is Lazer Gana begun to cooperate with official chabad activities in the Canadian forces?
Agree with #1
To #4 “IK” – I saw your comment where instead of simply answering, you were bashing at #1’s questions, which I thought were legit. You must have more than a mere chip on your shoulder that causes you degrade into name calling (“a negitive person”) and accusing (“easy to hate”). Nothing in comment #1 was negative or hateful, but there sure was plenty of that in YOUR comment.
If Danizger affirmed, it still does not answer the question asked by #1 – “is a frum yid is allowed to give an oath?”. A further question still remains, if he merely affirmed (which is non-religious), why did he place his hand on a “holy book”?
I ask this without any hate, doubt, malice, negativity or any other possible chip that may weigh heavily on your shoulder.

“And last week, Chabad-Lubavitch Lazer Danzinger became only the second rabbi since World War II to join the ranks of the Canadian armed forces as a chaplain and officer.”
