Knocking out Hunger Before Tisha B’Av

Colel Chabad held its 26th Annual Breakfast in the Five Towns.

Businessmen, professionals and laymen participated in the Colel Chabad 26th Annual Five Towns Breakfast.

Under beautiful sunshine, at the home of Paula and Moishe Weinstein, participants mingled over bagels, lox and cocktails and enjoyed nature and the beautiful atmosphere that was there.

“I have been there, I’ve seen it all, I support the organization and urge you to follow,” said Yossi Popack, a real-estate entrepreneur and resident of Lawrence.

Popack told how he and his wife Batsheva have been to many of Colel Chabad’s institutions in Israel. “We took part in the Bar Mitzvah of Russian boys, and were so impressed with the staff” Popack said.

Popack himself inaugurated a Colel Store- discount grocery store in Tzfas. As a result Popack pledged to support virtual Colel Stores throughout Israel.

Colel Chabad Director, Rabbi Sholom Duchman gave his guests an overview of the charity… Describing the work of the Soup Kitchens, Salei Mazon Food Distribution, Dental Clinics and the great work they do for the widows and orphans.

The guest speaker was Yuri Foreman, former World Boxing Association (WBA) super welterweight champion..

Who told of his journey from Gomel, Belarus via Haifa Israel to New York City and winning World Boxing Association (WBA) super welterweight champion., Israel to being a former World Boxing Association and super welterweight champion….Forman said how his success in Boxing paralleled his growth in Yiddishkeit, “the same internal strength needed to get up after a hard punch and continue fighting is needed to refocus after one’s mind wanders during Davening …” Foreman said.

Foreman praised the vital work of Colel Chabad and urged the crowd to help continue the fight for food security in Israel.

The closing remarks of the chairman “It’s already 26 years that we gather the Sunday before Tisha B’Av, to help in this vital cause. Let’s hope and pray that we need not gather next year for this purpose”

    There are very few people who the rebbe when they were young gave them a direct job and wake up every day just as the rebbe told it to them this morning. And that is (my dear uncle) rabbi shalom duchman, thanks for helping us feel that it is all alive!!
