Surprise Visit to Rabbi Liberow
On Sunday, the 6th of Nissan, while being visited by his family, Rabbi Zalman Liberow, who was badly injured in an accident that took the life of his son Avrohom Dovid, and of Mrs. Pesha Azoulai, was surprised by a visit by Chazan Schneur Zalman Baumgarten and Avraham Fried, along with a band.
As Rabbi Liberow greeted his guests, he told them that for the first time since the accident, he was able to stand and bear weight on both feet. In response, Chazan Baumgarten took the microphone, and began singing Shehecheyonu. Upon conclusion of singing Shehecheyonu, at the request of Rabbi Liberow, Fried sung ‘ברוך הבא מלך המשיח’.
This was followed by some very emotional moments. Rabbi Liberow told Avraham Fried, that the last song sung by his son Avrohom Dovid ע”ה while in the car, was ‘ברוך הוא אלקינו’ from Fried’s album ‘Yankel Yankel’, and asked him to sing it. As soon as Fried began to sing, tears filled the eyes of the family members present, as they remembered their beloved son/brother/nephew/cousin. The song was continued then by Chazan Baumgarten who sung another piece of the song which was not part of Fried’s rendition.
Amongst the livelier niggunim sung was ‘Nie Zhuritchi Chloptchi’, during which Rabbi Liberow put the fingers of his right hand to his mouth and whistled along loudly, as the Rebbe often motioned to Chassidim to do during the farbrengens.
Fried and Baumgarten were accompanied by a band called ‘Mekimi’, who arrived a short while earlier and began singing for Rabbi Liberow and his family. Fried told Rabbi Liberow about the wonderful work of this band, which is available at moment’s notice to travel to hospitals or other place where some spirit lifting is needed. Rabbi Liberow wished the band that they should only go to happy occasions, and expressed hope that with the Geulah, Hatzolah ambulances will be used just for transportation of music bands.
The family is still uncertain about their Pesach plans, as much of it depends on the progress of Rabbi Liberow’s therapy. They are hoping to be able to celebrate together, at the very least by arranging some kind of permissible transport for Rabbi Liberow between his home and the nursing home. They hope to be able to have some extended family join them and help in all aspects.
