MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA — Cybersmart, the first national cybersafety education initiative of its kind, was launched July 13, at Chabad’s Beth Rivkah Ladies College of Melbourne. An interactive website designed to keep kids safe when using the internet, Cybersmart was provided by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA).

Australia’s Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy says that “Although the internet has undoubtedly opened up a world of possibilities and benefits to Australian children, it has also exposed them to continually emerging and evolving dangers that did not previously exist.”

Cybersmart will provide the information and skills necessary for young people to “make smart decisions online”, as well as equipping parents and teachers with tools to assist children who are spending more and more time on the internet, he explained.

In addition to age-specific resources and a “schools gateway”, Cybersmart will include a helpline in collaboration with the Kids Helpline, providing confidential advice from counsellors for kids who have encountered issues.

Beth Rivkah, Australia’s flagship Chabad girls’ school from preK-12 and a Teacher’s College, counts an enrollment of 1500 students. Academically, the school ranks among the best in the State in VCE results.

This is the government’s experiment in implimenting government control and censorship over the internet. This is the beginning of our free of speech rights being taken away. It starts as an innocent program to protect children and it will develop into a full blown clamp on free speech. This is the plan, beware! Australia is the first test case for this and if it works in Australia it will then be copied in the other Western coutnries under the auspices of the ome world left wing government UN types.

LOL, it’s not 1984, the government isn’t actually doing anything, they just started a website and they wanted to make it fancy, so they got BRLC. Yes we have fancy blazers which precisely 4 people in the school have…

Great ! Finally, we see schools that are taking responsibility in educating our children in how to use this new technology in positive ways. Too many parents have no clue where their children are going when they are online. Their children receive and forward graphic, gory emails to their entire email list with out the parents knowledge ! I’ve seen it happen – they arrive in my child’s inbox !

We wouldn’t let our children interact with these people on the streets or in a bar, so why do parents let them interact together online ? That’s what many do on Facebook. 14 – 15 year olds are too young to use it responsibly !

SO glad that the schools are taking these steps in Australia.
It used to be the parents that taught their children how to sew, cook, manners, and hygiene, etc…. Now, it’s good that our schools are doing it ! Otherwise, it would not get done in this comprehensive, educational manner, or even at all !

May all the Jewish schools in the USA follow the Jewish Australian schools initiative ! We will have happier, safer, responsible children !
