“Shavuaton” In Morristown

MORRISTOWN, NJ [CHI] — This Shavuos, Yeshiva Tiferes Bachurim in Morristown, NJ hosted over 70 guests from all over the North America. Most of the visitors were college students, many were professionals, but all of them decided to spend a portion of their summer to come to yeshiva. This “Shavuaton” was motivated by the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s drive to gather Jews during the Hakhel Year to come together to increase in Torah and Mitzvos.

This weekend of joy and unity kicked off the annual Summer “Taste of Yeshiva” program in Morristown, which exposes the students to deeper ideas in Chassidus and Talmud as well as provide interesting trips and lectures from rabbis, entrepreneurs, and scientists. Hearing classes throughout the night proved extremely fascinating!

Visitors were delighted to enjoy a special class about Megillas Ruth from Rabbi Moshe Herson- Dean of the Rabbinical College. They also learned Gemarah with Rabbi Yaakov Wagner. The Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Zalman Dubinsky also delivered several fiery sermons bringing to light how the Torah is “Life” itself. In addition three young couples who are part of the Kolel in Crown Heights, Rabbis Yisroel Mier Abramson, Shimon Emlan and Levi Gelb and came to join the Yeshiva and enhance the Yom Tov experience.

Throughout the holiday the guests took part in classes and in one-on-one learning with the full-time students. There were also numerous farbrengens where the visitors shared their life experiences and revealed what sparked their interest in learning more about Judaism. As one guest Ben G. from Deal, NJ remarked “ I wasn’t sure if I’d feel comfortable here, but everyone is so nice, I had a really fun time, and I now plan on coming back again!”

Many of those who attended this weekend will soon depart for the summer, but they all feel much more inspired and prepared to return home with a stronger Jewish identity. Amidst the usual summer options of going on vacation or having a job internship, many ventured towards Yeshiva Tiferes Bachorim to develop a closer bond with their fellow Jews and to learn how the Torah can guide our lives today. The “Taste of Yeshiva” summer program in Morristown is still receiving applicants, and the Yeshiva is open year round for those who yearn to “plug in” and get connected to their spiritual side.
