Largest Emergency Meeting In Montreal’s History

MONTREAL [CHI] — At least 2000 Montreal-Anash (Men and Women) are expected to attend an emergency meeting tonight, Sunday 8:45pm at the Yeshiva at 6405 Westbury Avenue. After Crown Heights, Montreal is the next largest Chabad shchuna in the world!

The 68-year-old Tomchei Temimim is the only Chabad elementary school in Montreal, Canada.

Over the years YTTL has overcome many challenges to its existence, ranging from menagdim, the Canadian ministry of education, to Hamas sleeper cells. In December 2008 the Yeshiva was threatened by the Ministère de l’Éducation to conform to it’s NPS standards or be forcibly shutdown.

In January 2009 the Yeshiva was in a panic over a potential terrorist attack by Hamas sleeper cells planted in Quebec. This time it is the Marshal.

Due to the grave severity of the current Insolvency, al pi teva, it is only a matter of days, before the unthinkable happens R“L.

This catastrophe has far reaching implications not only to the 300 current students, but on the many teachers and staff currently employed by the institution.

If you have a friend or relative living in Montreal, you are encouraged to contact them with your generous pledge to help stave off this catastrophe.

Tax deductible checks payable to: Rabbinical College of Canada or yeshivachineseauction.com or you can call Mrs. Linda Rosenblum at (514) 735-2201 x 104.

Any amount at all donated by you at this critical juncture gives you a tremendous opportunity of being part of saving a Tomchei Temimim, and the blessings that come along.

In the merit of your charity above your limits, may HKB”H shower you b’kol tuv selah!

And in the merit of your increased generosity, may we witness the fulfillment of the Rebbe’s prophecy that “the time of your Redemption has arrived” and “Moshiach is coming Now.”!

People should just register their sons for the secular program and then the yeshiva will get money from the government.

  • Alumni

So the Yeshiva has decided to have one of their usual get-togethers, not to fix up the dilapidated mess of the “school” it has become, but simply because they need MONEY for an institution run by a bunch of hoodlums!
This must be the 272nd such event in the course of their 68 years.
Of course the Quebec government almost shut them down, they should, this is an “educational institution“ that prides itself in NOT teaching children the necessary basics, such as how to read and write English or French, basic math etc., how long do they think that people will tolerate this sort of mess?
As for the Hamas sleeper cell, you’ve gotta be kidding… Oh yeah, please report on the “progress” of this “meeting”!

  • Not sure it-ll be the worst thing ever..

if it is shut down. The hanhala is curropt, the teachers are burnt out or new and frustrated. Maybe it is time for a change.

  • Contact your Gov Reps.

The canadian government usualy protects its citezens, espacialy if there is a large out cry for help. The rebbe told us durring the crown hights riots to request government assistance rather than protecting ourselves by using our own forces. He said “Hakol ko Yakov, Vehayodayim Yiday Esov”. So start contacting your All Gov. reps ASAP.

Chabad fears that if their children receive a secular education it will mean kids would not be frum.

What Chabad forgets is that fear is not a method of education. A walled garden means not teaching your kids how to think for themselves.

Education should mean you teach your kids how to use their own brains and give them the tools required to make up their OWN minds.

If your children do decide to leave chabad, it is your own fault for not making the case as to why chabad is a better chiose. but voiding them of their education and making them dependant on chabad for jobs is 100% mind control.

Why are you mixing up “menagdim” into this business?
This is the quote:“Over the years YTTL has overcome many challenges to its existence, ranging from menagdim,”

As a long time resident of Montreal,I can tell you that Montreal is one of the few places that people actually get along, much in the Zchus of our esteemed Rov R’Hirschprung, who was a man of peace who managed to get on with everybody. In fact years back there was an attempt to merge the Lubavitch and Litvishe school in one!
Bareding other Jews is surely not a recipe to get out of difficulties!

  • montrealer

i am a product of the yeshiva of montreal. my parents B“H chose to send us to a full day of limudei kodesh and we are all doing well financially. Some of us are in Kodesh, chinuch, chabad houses and some of us are in the business world. Parents should not be forced to send their kids to limudei chol. The yeshiva needs a real fundraiser like rabbi kramer A”H.

  • Board-s Fault

if i am not mistaken, was it not the board who approached Le Ministre D’Eucation to let them k now they are not teaching chul as a way to receive funding? Let the honored board get themselves out of this mess?

I think the very nature of the comments speak for themselves.

Montreal is not a community as much a bunch of families who happen to live in the same geographic area. There is virtually no sense of community.

People, if you put away your differences for a couple of days and forked over 18 extra bucks a month, you’ll all be in a much better situation than you are now.

  • a yeshiva parent

i love the fact that MRS ***** ****** feels that the parents who do not pay FULL TUITION don’t get to have an imput in their childs education, but must pour money into a disfunctional institution. I guess you can read that as Kochi vehetzem yadi … that you are wealthy! shame on you- the wheel turns you never know- some of us struggle and try to pay to the best of our ability, and we do not appreciate YOU humiliating us as such. I was personaly hurt and offended. You owe our community a public apology just like your public statement.

  • Alumni

So Yeshivas Tomchei Tmimim of Montreal is once again in need of your money, and they want you to know its URGENT (they are desperate)! They URGENTLY need to get out of the mess they are (regularly) in, and they think that by raising money the Govt will lay off its back. The government won’t because there are ppl like me out there, that care! and will not allow the yeshiva to get away with this kinda abuse!
And contrary to what “Montrealer” wrote, Yeshivas TTL in Montreal only pumps out the following types of Gezhe Talmidim/Tmimim: Shluchim, Rabbonim, Mohels, Shochets and Teachers, no doctors, lawyers, professors or tradesmen, but hey “Montrealer” is doing “very well financially” and never went to “limudei chol” -nothing can be further from the truth! Needless to say that most of these Rabbonim, Shluchim such as “Montrealer” etc (who are predominantly employed by the Yeshiva itself) are actually doing quite poorly (literally) and earn less than $35,000 a year (and need to support an average of 6-8 kids).
Moreover, not a single Rebbi has actually undergone any sort of educational curriculum of any sort, and when a half decent one comes along, they throw them out bc they are unwilling to conform to the abuse this institution has been ill-reputed for. For years they kept tons of ineffective and ailing “Rebbis” under the pretext of seniority, only to be where we are today, -the the stone age. Are we not upset that our kids cant even fill out a government document without errors and assistance in doing so?
Go rob our kids of the basics they need and ignore the thousands of request for change that the parents have asked for, over the years.
For those of you who still believe that the Yeshiva should not be teaching “Limudei Chol” SHAME ON YOU! and please take your kids to the Nitturei Karta (their views seem more in line with this sort of rhetoric)!

  • Parent

When someone last night, raised their voice and asked “Why is it that as parents we are always convened when it comes to money but not when it comes to our children’s education?”
This question was met with a mic response from the women’s section stating “only those who pay full tuition have a say!”
To whoever said that: Shame on you and your family!
How dare you think that because you have money, you are in a position to decide the future of our children’s education, NEVER!

  • Yehuda

2000 anash. did not know the community was that big? Also I believe the max amount of people allowed in the auditorium is about 500.

  • very big tzdikim nistarim.

there is nobody to talk to.
    the “hanhala” (the management)
are very big tzdikim nistarim. (hidden tzadikim)
so nobody really knows who is responsible fore anything.
every once in a while they reveal themselves in secret to one “chossid shoiteh”
who calls a meeting and says that he has a message from “the hanhola”.
“HANDS UP” “lets see who is not on the list of brochos” hand over another $2,500.
“you will be notified about a meeting for you to ask any questions at a later date, but for now hands up”.

when you corner one of these zombies, they say “i dont know its not my job, i’m just a volunteer”.

“the hanhala” is a group of weak power hungry bullies, who hide behind Mrs. Rosenbloom’s skirt.

they tossed the boss,(r. kramer a’h) made a 20 year mess, now they threaten to cut and run.

    there is no responsibility.

like an alcoholic or crack addict, they thrive on the decent non assuming non judgmental fine jews who pay with “mesiras nefesh” time and again.

The Rebbe is clear about his opinion and hora’ah on the matter of secular education for youngsters. The Rebbe starts with the halochos of bitul Torah and continues with discussing the chinuch that we want for our children – al taharas hakodesh – without distracting them with premature worries about how a parnosoh will be made. Indeed, a cursory look at the general society shows that a parnosoh is just as difficult for those with (even an advanced) secular education.

So “We are sorry” thinks that kindergarten-level patronizing and trash-talking will is actually gonna accomplish anything here. BIG MISTAKE! not the trash talking at the Yeshiva, nor here on online forums (such as this one) will be silenced!
Read Carefully: “We will not stop until the ”Hanholeh” is changed (entirely) or the Yeshiva is Shut Down permanently.
Enough robbing the kids of their education and future!.

from all these comments you might think that the montreal lubavitch community has major problems.

the truth is. its only a problem of mismanagement by a few part-time volunteer “leaders”.

they are overwhelmed by the ka’h explosive growth in recent years.

when the “hanhola” will finally recognize the new dynamics of the community and start listening to the needs of the people. reorganize themselves and hire an administrator that is not only a fundraiser but an actual decision maker, (like any organization head) answerable to a community elected board. ” things will improve greatly.

the community as a whole are fine and well meaning, but it needs to be reorganized to meet todays needs.

by the people. for the people.

IM WILLING TO DONATE $10,000 if they yeshiva conforms to Govt Standards (thats 25% of what was “raised” [rather pledged] last night) Ive offered this to the “Hanholeh” in the past, but they said that “the parents dont want Limudei Chol” …..the truth is that they dont need my money since apparently the Hanholeh is comprised of “economically viable ”individuals” who’s families pay full tuition and therefore have a say in everyone else’s children too.

About Bitul Torah I say ”ein kemach ein torah“ Pirkei Avois.
”Loi yilmedoo oomnois yilmedoo listois“, soif Gemara Mesechtas Kiddushin. Then there is the brocho ending
    ”noisen machochmosoi lebosor vedom”.
Our youth and children should grow up with the opportunity to have careers other than Chabad Lubavitch K’Lei Koidesh.
They should be capable of becoming Accountants, Lawyers, Architects, Doctors, Dentists, Engineers, Limudei Choil Teachers etc. About doing well in business, I have read a statistic that 75 per cent of new businesses fail in the first five years. Maybe more in the current economic climate.
Why was the Master of Business Administration degree invented? So that its graduates would have the knowledge to succeed in business, including skills in planning, budgeting, supply chain management, marketing, analysing financial reports etc. You need to be able to do all of that to survive in business nowadays.
I have found the following at College.gov:

Studies prove it: continue your education after high school and you’re likely to make more money than people who stop at high school. As an example, a college graduate can afford to buy a large, flat-screen TV in 1–2 months while a non-college graduate might have to work for 3–4 months to buy the same TV.
Skills for Today’s Jobs: Have More Options
Today, more jobs than ever before require specialized training or a two- or four-year college degree. More education means more choices, and that means more opportunities for you.
Fast Fact: It’s estimated that by 2014, 90% of the fastest-growing careers will require some postsecondary education.
    Job Security: Keep Working
Your high school diploma is useful. But a college degree increases your chance of employment by nearly 50%. A two-year degree or even some college can have a positive impact on your ability to find and keep a job, too.
Fast Fact: The higher your education level, the higher your chances of finding and keeping a job.
More Benefits: Get the Important Extras
There’s more to a job than a paycheck. Jobs for college graduates typically offer more and better benefits than jobs requiring just a high school diploma. These can include health insurance and retirement plans you may not get at lower-skill jobs.

  • to POST Yaakov Shloimo (Ian Martin) Aj

your datta may be applicable to the secular (wider) general public

the facts in chabad CLEARLY contradict your premise!!

(the chabad graduates seem to clearly have a special bracha!)

most wealthy lubavitchers (the over whelming majority) have had limudei kodesh ONLY!
and have far exceeded their ENLIGHTENED peers who took secular to get ahead!!

    LOY LACHACHOMIM LECHEM!

its G-g, its Mazal and its destiny, (its betachon too)

if you are motivated, hard working, you make a concerted effort (aka HISHTADLUS or KELI) the evidence is all around you

all those shleppers who role in to shul at 1pm

have them selves alone to blame! not the system!
you cant pick and choose from the system, and expect for it to work for you!!

the system makes many demands from a chossid
(if you keep these demands, you will find bracha and hatzlacha)

    demands include:

    Shmiras hasdorim =basic life skills)
    Mivtziyim =enriches the charactor)
Limud nigla vaChasidus =adds some healthy perspective)
Learning in general =sharpens the mind)
    Merkaz shlichus, Tahalucha, CGI, etc
    Daily Chitas Rambam etc,

all of the above goes a long way towards developing the CHARACTOR, MIND AND SKILL-SET to excel in the REAL WORLD!

I HAVE FRIENDS WHO’VE BECOME SUCCESSFUL BY USERPTING THE SYSTEM (ABOVE) YET THEY ARE IN THE MINORITY

HOWEVER THE VAST MAJORITY OF MY “kodesh-only” friends (who followed the above PERSCRIPTION

    ARE DOING VERY WELL!

THEY UNDERSTAND THAT $ REQUIRES A KELI (RUCHNI AND GASHMI) BUT NOT TO OVER DO IT!!

While the debate re. secular studies is an important one, it should be judged on its own merits.

The issue at hand is regarding money and the situation as it relates to the overall chinuch.

  • Notsurprisedanddisappointed

    I agree with Alumni:
It’s an “institution run by a bunch of hoodlums”, it is NOT the first time this happens, “it prides itself in NOT teaching children the necessary basics, such as how to read and write English or French, basic math etc.”.

Maybe a more detailed look at the members and board of directors who focus most of their time on managing their VIP Shuls that are worth almost as much as the Bell Center. That hire staff that CAN teach and CAN fix the system, but fire them when they need to save more money for their own pockets…If the Jewish home of these students were strong enough, they would not have to worry about secular teaching, we all have to learn it at some point.
I find that this school has collected millions since its existence, however, it has been run by hoodlums like the VAAD of Montreal, ready to take the money but not to give it’s value in services. SHAME ON YOU MEMBERS AND BOARD OF DIRECTORS! SHAME ON YOU FOR THIS! SHAME ON YOU FOR RUINING AN INSTITUTION THAT COULD HAVE BEEN THE POTENTIAL YESHIVA UNIVERSITY OF MONTREAL – MOST JEWS PREFER THE SECULAR SYSTEM NOT BECAUSE OF THE RELIGION BUT BECAUSE YOU DESTROY LIVES BY STEALING MONEY AND TEACHING THAT LIVING OFF DONATIONS IS OK – IF 99% OF JEWS DID THAT WE’D BE ALL ON THE STREET.

The terror threat is real though, real to every Jewish neighborhood and institution.

CHANGE YOUR WAYS FOR THE BEST INTEREST OF THE COMMUNITY – NOT YOUR BANK ACCOUNTS AND MILLION DOLLAR VIP SHULS!

  • RESPONSE TO: Yaakov Shloimo (Ian Martin)

your info seems to be predicated on the premise that is simply wrong!!

#1 Most well-adjusted productive baale batim
    (unzereh that is)
are bright enough to complete smicha and a tharas hkodesh education before entering the world of Kolledge and Career training!
    thats just a fact!

if you were spreading your arguments 20 years ago, maybe, you would have persuaded me, back then, before the anti-climatic truth was well established!

    to all you college-text-book-thumping-preachers

get a grip, your arguments are sorely contradicted by the ACTUAL FACTS

    THAT IS:

THAT well timed career preparation, initiated after a firm torah foundation, (provided the man is a functional self-motivated mentch)
    works best in our circle

not to mention the travesty and dangers of todays colleges, on our youth w/o a firm foundation,

again the rules of society dont apply if you follow the Rebbeh, unless you ust say you follow the Rebbeh but dont live all that he stood for

yes there are many lazy bums dressed like rabbis
but thats nothing to do with limudei kodesh
and has everything to do with the type of home and mentchlichkeit he was raised with,

you cant be a FERD and expect your kids to grow up like a mentch!

if you or you children dident make it,
take a good look in the mirror and ask youself
“did i truly follow the Rebbe’s directive and guiance

    if not
than just dressing like a rabbi … still a bum!
dont blame anyone for you own mistakes!

i like how you dressed up your lack of betochon in fancy quotes!

your conclusions however reveal your blindness to the dangers of college and you naivete re who actually succeeds(and how)

  • Alumni and soon to be yeshiva parent

the situation is a grave one, however you must also understand the truth behind everything.

To those that are “bashing” the administration – can you take or do a better job in their place? if so please stand up – there are talks to over run the board.

To those parents that pay full tuition – Thank you! and keep up the good work.

To those parents that don’t pay full tuition – May Hashem help you to be able to return the favor in any other way.

To those parents who oppose secular studies – either pay full tuition, or think real well – what would the Rebbe prefer – sending your child to secular education in a religious chassidish environment, or letting a teacher with 8 children and no family support starve, have bare walls and an empty fridge. Besides the Rebbe opposed secular education back in the 50s when there were no religious schools, no jewish environment – however today B”H and thanks to the Rebbe – the possibility is there – secular studies in a religious jewish environment. I believe that the parent the spoke yesterday – that was what she was referring to – those parents that oppose the secular studies, are those jobless (or low income) families that pay low tuition and checks bounce – those people should consider their options. However, if it was a parent that sends their child to the secular program and doesn’t have the funds to pay full tuition – that is not their fault – and they have just as much of a say as those that pay full.

    now to the administration:

You cannot expect a community that the majority of it does not work or are on low salaries to come up with such large sums of money all of a sudden. It is not right to have the community to pay for you ill management of 30 years.

If parents, future parents or anyone come up to you with a proposal or advice to help – consider that as the parents are DOING something. as of now you consider DOING = MONEY. that unfortunately is not the case here. we are talented people, with small to medium businesses, or hard working people – all we can offer is our dedication NOT our money!!! most parents and people that wanted to help you in the past all have the same claim – it’s like knocking on a door and no one is answering. Start answering our calls – start showing some leadership skills. hire teachers with proper experience, and proper education. get off your high horse, and get rid of those people who are waste of time in that school – no one will invest in your school if it is bound to fail – that is why all your supporters left you, that is why you are in this so called “urgent” state.

    Now tachles: Solution!!!

    A) Shut the school down until September. this way you do not have your 440K salary expense (which we all know very well that you will not raise in 14 weeks)

    B) Re-structure:

b1) Terminate the “slugs” – get rid of those in the administration that are either ruining the school, running it to shambles, there because of their name or yichus, there for an assumed pay check, non educated and non experienced (teacher or principle).

b2) Offer the parents a choice. either put your child into the secular education or pay full tuition with no negotiations.

b3) all parents should pay full tuition, if the parent cannot afford it, their finances should be assessed and a payment plan should be arranged. something like a mortgage that will a long time to pay (10, 15, 20 years – however long it should take)

b4) fix up your fund raising events – be different, stand out!!! there are people in the community that can help you with that.

    C) about the gov’t and its secular program – keep in mind that socialism is communism with lip stick – so you got to play their game back.
they request 5 hours a day of french or english – no problem – teach a sicha in french, have the kids write an essay on what they learned in french – you never know, the gov’t official that will review it – might be choizer bitshuva!!! isn’t that what chabad is all about!!!

you see – solutions are always available – just open your eyes and ears to those that have them!!!

I hope you will highly consider these options – this will work!!!

From a concerned alumni and soon to be parent of the system.

    2) the record (at least in montreal) does not show that the “bnei hapritzim” like your kids, do better then us the simpletons, in learning and yiras shomaim, like somebody poorer and smarter (that’s easy!!!) then you once said “hizaharu mibnei aniyim – shemeihem teitze tora

  • A Parent in Montreal

Most people mean well and are concerned for the Yeshiva. But there is no one that says: the buck stops here.

The Yeshiva has made great strides, but still needs to go a long way.

    It has several problems:
    -Financial
    _Societal
    _Pedagogical

    FINANCIAL
For the financial problems, it is pretty clear, that the Yeshiva can no longer be run by anonymous volunteers. It must hire an financial administrator and fundraiser, who can say: the buck stops here and look after the financial aspect of the Yeshiva

It needs to hire a professional to work with the government so that the Yeshiva can look after its own interests (Chassidishe Chinuch) while confirming to the governments demands

    PEDADOGICAL
It needs to hire an expert mechanech that will review the Yeshiva’s goals and pedagogical guidelines to meet the new realities of the Montreal Jewish community. The community BH has truly grown, but its make-up has vastly changed: The new Yeshiva population includes, many children from Baal Tshuva homes, non-Yiddish speaking or non-ashkenazic backgrounds.

    SOCIETAL
It also has seen an influx from homes with socio-economic and stability issues. These are new challenges and require new solutions. We need to press on institutions such as federation and MADA to help cover the cost for more comprehensive social work and integration for the some of the children who need this help.

It also must provide an answer to the precious kids who will never be academically strong – they too, must find an outlet, so they do not drop their Yiddishkeit as they emerge from the Yeshiva, because they cannot find a place in it.

We need more hands-on learning, role playing, creative teaching, science type Torah fairs, etc.

All hat being said, I am very, very grateful that I live in this community, when I look around and see the much greater problems that plague large frum communities, I am grateful.

By and large, my children have had very positive experiences here, given the devotion and excellence from some special mechanchim. Yiras shomayim and temimus are the norm.

We are not a wealthy community, true, but we also are left out of the terrible rat race and consumerism which seems to engulf most American frum communities today.

All in all, there is much room for improvement and also much appreciation to go around. So lets hire the adminstrator, lets involve more parents to insure our children have more options and that all our children succeed to becoming Yirei Shomayim and Lamdonim and strong carriers of the Mesorah of Chassidus and Yidishkeit

Apparently,Yaakov Shloimo (Ian Martin) Ajzenszmidt is off on his own program. More power to him! For those of us who prefer to be guided by the Rebbe we look to the Rebbe’s sichos and igros for direction. I am sure that Yaakov Shloimo (Ian Martin) Ajzenszmidt is a brilliant person with broad life experience. None-the-less, I choose to have the Rebbe set the tone and priorities for my life.

Mr G. remeber when you were a child and didnt have the money to go to yeshiva, or to buy a change of gatkes, and 1 of the Hanhala had to collect money for you for the basics, remeber those days??

Mrs g. remeber when you couldnt go to a Jewisg school because your parents cuoldnt afford it, so you had to go to public school, remember??

Mrs G. remeber those humble days, before your husband became a master con artist, and finally made some money to spoil your children rotten, remeber??

TEACH YOUR ARROGANT CHILDREN ABOUT THOSE HUMBLE DAYS, LET THEM KNOW WHAT IT WAS LIKE WITHOUT MONEY, LIKE THE REST OF OUR BELOVED COMMUNITY!

Most of our community are HARD WORKING people with families to support, and at the end of the day are still trying to make ends meet. Not like some arrogant SHVITZER’S who were lucky enough to have a father before them, who knew how to con money for a living and pay off the Hanholo to place his SHVITZER of a son on the board!

WAKE UP MRS G! You owe the whole community an apology for you stupit arrogant and insensitive insults!

Mr g! Its hard tp tell who is the real MESHUGENER that you were trying so hard not to be heard at the meeting, you owe every individual, and the whole community as a whole an apology!!

TEACH YOUR BRATS ABOUT THE GOOD OLD DAYS!

MR. & MRS G. LET THEM KNOW HOW IT WAS LIKE WHEN PAYING TUITION WAS AN ISSUE.

The Melamdim that cannot put food on the table to feed their families are williing to sacrifice a paycheque, are the CEO’S of ICE.COM willing to do that for the sake of the Melamdim??

Remember Mr. & Mrs. G. we in the community live in the REAL WORLD, You are more then welcome to join us in the REAL WORLD, mabye you can teach us, and tell us about the good old humble days, when paying tuition like the rest of us was a issue.

REMEBER, REMEBER, WHERE YOU CAME FROM:)

  • Response to a parent in Montreal

I heard that the yeshivah in Montreal picked up in the past few years. and that they had special programs and the children looked forward to going to school. the parents were pleased as well by the level of professionalism that the yeshivah had. whatever happened with this positive change. I heard that this past year things drastically change for the worse. is is polotic or money that’s causing beautiful chasidishe neshomos to suffer and pay the price of selfishness?

  • STRUCK A RAW NERVE!!

wow 50+ comments in just a few minutes!

i dont know whats wrong but clearly there are alot of ppl out there who think they got the answer!

  • A long time montreal

    BH

Irelevant of the negative comments expressed truth must be stated that last nights emergency meeting in the Yeshiva in Montreal was an obvious indication that notwithstanding the differences of opinions regarding many of the issues the Yeshiva struggles with- like any other Educational instituion of this size and in such a diverse community- the majority of the parents stand behind the present Hanhalah who with total selfless dedication are committed day in day out to assure that the Yeshiva functions and continuous to grow and improve.

Let no one out there reading some of the childish foolish remarks think that the montreal ANash community is torn and shredded to pieces in fact it is a beautifull community with many chassidishe families of all backgrounds unzhere, tzugekumene, sphardim, english , Yiddish , french ,spanish russian soeaking young and old BH living together side by siderespecting each others differences.
Indeed a community of such size with no official Rav since the passing of Harav Henedel O”H has its problems but nothing like some of these comments seem to indicate.

Not one person in this community thinks or speaks of the individuals who for the past 7-8 years with no financial benefit or pay run the yeshiva in such degrading terms as some of the shamefull comments expressed in this forum.

It is obvious that the financial world-wide crisis has affected the Yeshiva and it is only proper for the responsible people to share with the community and parents the severity of the situation and asking for help.

It is also irresponsible from the manager(s) of this site to allow this site to be used as a vehicule for expressions of the oposite of respect and Ahavas Yisroel in particualr in these days of Sefirat Haomer.

May we all have the zchut to see the Rebbe here Lemato in a Guf Hagashmi and lead us all together into the complete G’ulah

  • THE SOLUTION!! stop KVETCHING!!

    stop criticizing the board,

they are the ONLY ones who cared enough to actually DO something VOLUNTARILY!!!

they dont do it for the money! nor for the kavod
(there ain’t NO kavod, in this vessel!)

lets step back for a moment and see what the hanhala’s crime is!

they are guilty of being the ONLY ONES in town to undertake the ambitious BURDEN of finding $$ for the melamdim!

dare i say until a few months ago, they did a very good job at that!

perhaps, they should focus their energies exclusively on FUNDRAISING alone! and designate a QUALIFIED director/educator or administrator who will g-g willing RESTORE TRUST AND CONFIDENCE! in the leadership
    =
i think the money and blessings will follow!

ppl would be motivated to squeeze and sacrifice if ONLY they had FAITH in the judgement of those on the top!!

lets get real here! a plane needs a professional pilot
    a train … a professional engineer! …a ship…
    WHY NOT:
    1) A PROFESSIONAL FUNDRAISER,
    2) A PROFESSIONAL ADMINISTRATOR/S
    3) A BOARD COMPRISED OF PROFESSIONAL EDUCATORS!!!! not just clueless well-meaning men
    4) A PROFESSIONAL (TRAINED) SECULARE STUDIES PRINCIPLE
    5) A YOUNG WISE AND TRAINED EXPERIENCED PRINCIPLE
(what WAS good for yesteryear may NOT be appropriate for today)

(btw where DID R. NOCHUM Kaplan disappear to? was he not hired to guide the change!!?)

all change is difficult, but NOT TO may be far WORSE R”L

PPL WANTO SUPPORT, BUT FIRST GIVE THEM CHANGE THEY CAN BELIEVE IN!!

each time someone suggests any CHANGE or fresh thinking he is dismissed or MADE TO SHUTUP!!!!

lets get together as a single community (vi ein mishpacha)
and do right thing in a smart yet sensitive way, for the sake of our young ones!! stop the finger pointing and blame game,
and start the implementation of the lessons learnt!

reading the websites, its clear that there is a resounding consensus, echoed OVER AND OVER!

so stop kvetching and stand up to help, all seem ready for a creadible seasoned professional to be RECRUITED and supported b’achdus, moshiach now!

  • zev

When you say “educated teachers”, do you mean that they hold a diploma in child education? IS that what you mean? They have gone to university and have spent their time learning there?

In that case they have not spent their time in yeshiva, is that the kind of teachers you would be happy with? Is it more important to know how to teach then to know what to teach? Tell me honestly, why would any sane minded individual go get a degree and then come back to degrade himself before a parent body that shows no respect or appreciation for good work, and work for a salary that is way below anything any other degree would bring in?

What exactly are you asking for?! Think before you speak and appreciate the Mesiras nefesh of the teachers!

  • A full tuition paying parent

Being at that meeting, I was disgusted by the remarks made by 2 members of a wealthy family.

The 1st one was directed at a person who asked a very valid question and the response he got was to the effect of – you are a meshugineh. The issue he raised was not dealt with – this is a classic practice in the yeshiva.

The second comment was made by this wealthy persons spouse stating that anyone not paying full tuition does not have a right to talk… well money can pay for chinuch, but having money does not imply that you are a mechanech.

To prove this, I’ll tell you of a fact that happened here in yeshivah. about 5 years ago, a new (vice?) principle was bought down to yeshivah. Since he came down, the yeshivah improved drastically, he implemented father & son learning, made sure there was a mishnayos Ba’al peh contest each year, had a talmid hashavuah program, was instrumental in arranging a weekly newsletter to inform parents what was going on in the school, Stopped children from running wild in the hallways, on Chassidishe Yomim Tovim he would tell the children about the yomtov – with special missions… (just to name a few).

Another thing that he did was diciplined children – including some members of this wealthy family, now lets just say that a few of these children were “spoiled brats” who spoke chutspahdik and needed someone to discipline them and this vice priciple did his job.

well guess what a member of this wealthy family did? … you got it, they removed him from that position, most probably because the vice principle didn’t stand for the lack of derech eretz and for the chutzpah. So this year we did not have any of these wonderful things that he previously implemented – we went 10 years backwards in Chinuch!

It is quite obvious that having money does not necessarily mean that you could make sound decisions regarding Chinuch.

Perhaps if the hanholo would do what was best for the community rather than what fit their political agenda, perhaps more members of the community would feel obligated to help out.

When this Hanholo took over the Yeshivah, there were 120 boys in a functioning Mesivta, how many are there now? They completely broke the Mesivta, and now they have nothing. Perhaps it needed some improvement, but this hanholo just destroyed it. (some of the mistakes they made are the reason why they are so deep in debt)

I must give the hanholo credit for admitting that they made some mistakes, if they would only reverse their mistakes – they would get a lot more help…

  • parent of happy Talmid

i’m sure these complaints about tuition and $ are real
but lets give credit and thanks where credit is due!!

my son comes home very happy with his teacher,

thanks to Rabbi Meir Mann and Zirkind who sponsered the Tzivos Hashem program! to get started!

thanks to Shaya Smetana (a product of montreal!) who is making a world of difference for soo many talmidim Not just in montreal!! (we loooov u shaya!)

how about my kids thanking the Hanhala for getting a NEW state of the art GYM!

how about thanking YTTL for my son’s exitement to say CHITAS with me and his chaver (DAILY, for over 4 months! unimaginable!!)

i feared it would fizzle out after a week max!

    the Rebbe’s kochos work!
despite all the $ problems etc!

for the first time in years my kid came home and announced that he actually enjoys his substitute day, despite the fact that they learned more than a regular day!

    lastly,

thank you to the hanhala for the new emphasis on DERECH ERETZ and NIMUS campaign, my son said that he hated being constantly harassed to tuck in his shirt and keep his desk and hallway clean, pickup coats all day! but he confessed to my wife that he now likes it! and does it automatically!!

maybe my son is exceptional and my experience is above average
but one thing i’m sure, i have seen progress! by THIS hanhala’s leadership, and by it’s selfless dedication!

so thank you and remember that the majority of satisfied parents don’t have a lot of time to post comments!

I too tried to help and was optimistic. But any change was refused. Teachers that should have long ago been replaced – or never even hired at all- are still there. The Hanholo refuses to change until now it might be too late!
I stopped helping because I saw it is futlie. They wnat you to tow the line, and when you ask too many questions or voice concerns they shut you out – and quite ruthlessly. The problems are much bigger than money. People stopped giving because they saw they was no matter how much they gave, certain things – very important elemants would not be changed. People are fed-up. Having a smicha dgree or a certain last name does not make you a teacher. That is a main issue they refused to address and would lie about.

  • a montrealer

It is well known among chassidim, that the Rebbe constantly said , that no one has permission to play around with his words. There is a well known member of the Hanhala who publisizes constantly that he was zoche to receive an answer from the rebbe, that he should NOT be a MEMBER of the hanhala.
Hanhala in plain english language is the body that governs. If the rebbe said that this person should not be a member of the hanhala, it maens that he should not be involved in any matters that govern the yeshiva.
Yet, this member not only is he involved in every single aspect in governing how the yeshiva is run, but he doesn’t even hide it as it is evident at the meeting, that he is chairman and all questions dircted to him.
The obvious question is, when will the 2 face stop? When will he realize that when the Rebbe says he should not be a member of the hanhala, he should not be involved in any decison making of the hanhala PERIOD,. As they say in english BUTT OUT.

  • a montrealer

It was very brave of the hanhala to admit that they made mistakes since they are not educators.
Now what are they going to do about their mistakes? What are they doing to rectify their mistakes? How many families were destroyed because of their mistake?
How many childrens lives were ruined becuase of their mistakes?
When are they going to aplogize to members of the community for their mistakes?
How much did your budget balloon becuase the people you got rid of , had to be replaced each by at least 3 other salaries?

  • mendel

    Concessions!!!!!
The hanhala asked the parents to make concessions.
The hanhala had the nerve to ask the melamdim to give up a check. What nerve are any members of the hanhala or executives of ***** willing to forgo a paycheck?
WHAT CONCESSIONS are the hanhala willing to make, for the community in order to better educate our children? to keep them physically safe? to stop all the abuse our children have to endure because of 2-3 rotten apples of melamdim (which the majority are what to be proud of)
The hanhala will only receive support from the community when they open their ears and listen to the cries of the parents and start by replacing incapable people that are in positions that they should never have been in.

  • Hope there is hope

How about the fact that they kicked out Rabbi Raskin someone that actually cared about the Mesivta and built it for what it was, here are just a few things that he did while he was there.

    1. Any sefer that is there was bought with money that he personally fundraised not money given to him by the yeshiva.
    2. Any mivza through out the years were all fund raised by him.
    3. When they moved the mesivta to the basement and there was no air-conditioning for the bochurim he went to the administration and they told him you want it go fundraise the money your self GUESS WHAT HE DID IT.
    4. Any Farbrengen that they had in the years that he was there was with money he fundraised.

The wealthy family in our community has done nothing but good things for the Montreal community. They give jobs to people who need it. Help Yeshiva with donations – NOT with firing anyone. Open their house and hearts to all- no questions asked. They give lots of tzedukah to anyone who asks or needs.
Why would someone badmouth good people who mean good? Yes the comment may be not the right one but to say such not nice things-please. Don’t be jealous of their money only of their good deeds.
    Instead of complaining volunteer!

  • Response to Blabber mouth:

  • another montreal parent

Too much venting goin on here.
First of all, Mrs.G apologized so stop harassing her.
Secondly, I too pay full tuition but I dont get even basic menchlich service= I can leave dozens of messages and not even get a phone call back. I have to personally go into the building now straight to the principal or whoever I would like to talk to.
When I need specific changes to personally help my son, I am ignored.
So now, even if I had extra cash I am so not motivated to give it to Yeshiva.
As for paying full tuition, pple cannot afford it because they buy houses (that I cannot afford) and complain they cannot afford tuition on top of their expenses. That is not fair, we squeeze ouselves to cover their houses? Don’t buy a house and then claim you can’t pay for your children and still expect to have a say.
And what gym is everyone talking about? And where is the playground we were promised? And why is there not one extra curricular activity? What is the principal doing all day??? How hard is it to arrange Father and Son Learning? Why are we going downwards???Everyone is too rigid, too tough, too rude and noone takes blame for anything. The only phone calls I ever get from yeshiva are about money. Sadly.

  • optimist

Changes are being made as we write. If you found your ideas and critiques were being ignored yesterday, you may find that if you try again today, with a proper approach, you may succeed. Now is the time to try … yes, again. Call your local hanhala member and have hope. Thank you hanhala for getting that parents’ program in that people have been working on for months that was about to be ignored. There is no time to waste complaining. The time now is to do. Moshiach now.

  • Mac Aroni

I mentioned to a recent student from that Yeshiva that it may be in danger of closing… he looked at me and said, “It will never close.” I asked, “Why?” With all seriousness he stared me in the eyes and said, “The devil would never let hell close.”

It seems there needs to be a complete overhaul, from the legaly empowered personel, to the board, to the way people are chosen to have those positions, to the way the yeshiva is managed, etc… total overhaul. Soser al m’nas livnos.

  • a parent

To the happy parent of the yeshiva, all those staff members you listed, do you realized they all replaced one hard working individual? If the yeshiva wants to know why their payroll exploded, maybe they should realize that by removing 2 dedicated staff members, 7 people still can not get the job done.
This school year will be remebered as the worst year for our children. Who knows what is awaiting us for the coming year.

  • THE TRUTH HURTS

    BH

the current vp and many rebbis have told me many times that getting rid of the 6yr vp was clearly a mistake of major proportion,

(not to mention all the others who over the years did soo much for the mossad)

he has given his all for the yeshivah only to be replaced, over trying to save a couple of dollars!

the yeshiva should listen to the opinions of the staff, it would take 10 new vps to fill his shoes!

thats just a fact, the teachers and even the recent vp have been honest enough to admit!!

they all feel bad for what the man went through!!

    ANU RACHMONIM B’NEY RACHMONIM!!

i have spoken to soo many other staff and parents, they all feel the same way,

    his position was never replaced.

They had no idea who they hired and who they fired.

  • TO FACT CHECK

to fact check, the hanhola claimed last winter they will save $100,100.00 for their reconstruction of the mesivta. So they let go of the head of the mesivta to save money and replaced him with 2 people who each one of them are taking a larger salary then the previous one. so that is 2 times plus.all the fundraising that the head of the mesivta did which was $30-40,000 was added to the yeshiva budget. Enrollment plummeted. How much did they save? Please take out your calculators

  • TRUTH TO BE TOLD

    To Fact Check
FINALLY a member of the hanhala revealing some truth 1 year too late. The head of the mesivta was dismissed to save money. What a reason to fire a well beloved educator after 14 years. All we heard were lies and stupidity from the hanhala why they fired him. Comes summer time and they see they do need a head of Mesivta, but instead of stooping down on their kovod (which they are not on the hanhala for kovod) they went to hire a “newbie” with no experience at a higher salary. (talk about budgeting). When that failed 2 weeks into the school year, the “NEW” hanhala members again could not go down on their kovad to hire him back, they went and hired a bochur again at a higher salary instead. (we won’t discuss that the previous head of the mesivta put his job on line trying to protect this very bochur’s skin)
AND THE FARMER TOOK ANOTHER LOAD AWAY.

  • This is useful forum

While it is true that some of the commments have been downright distasteful and nasty, it is the first forum that people can vent their issues with the Yeshiva.

It is useful for the Hanhala to gain soome insight to the viewpoints of parents and students by reading these comments. Some of us have clout ie yichus, established or money that allows us the freedom to speak out in our own voice. Some of us on the other hand, have no yichus, are new here or are just plain working class people and we dont hav that freedom because we can be hurt by those in power if we do
    Sad, but true.

So, although I think some of the personal attacks have crossed the line, this anonymous forum in general is an excellent idea. The hanhola should not critize it, it should read it and listen to the people.

This doesn’t ruin the kid’s life on the contrary it strengthens him in his yiddishkeit wich specially important nowadays. As an example, the person that said that only the one paying full tuition could talk is bh for her very wealthy, her children and grandchildren too this without having learning limudei chol as kids.

nobody ever forced parents to put their kids in TTL Montreal. The parents doing it thinks it is good for them. Moreover there is a french curriculum at least in the lower grades that is offered already.

Montreal is a big community and I thought smart community. Why then does it have to blow up in front of everybody. Why always blame the same people?? Just act rather than talk (emor meat veasse arbe)

    Wishing you all hatzlocho raba

  • Response to Montrealer for past 2 years

Thank you for emphasizing the importance of limudei chol. You prove that this learning is necessary in order to be able to communicate clearly and rationally.

  • to: Yeshiva Parent

    thank you for the homework!

not joking, you should work for the fbi! bc you were able to find out what 99% of parents could not!

  • an angry parent

As a parent of a student in Yeshiva, I believe I have a right to my opinion even though the hanhala does not want to hear it. Had this school taken the right steps in educating our children years ago, many of the parents of the children in the school would be able to read, write and hold successful jobs. Due to the lack of secular education, this community is in a financial mess. Start to educate our boys like we educate our girls. It is written in the torah that it is the man’s job to find parnassa for his family. So why are you people so busy making sure the girls are ducated and the boys are not. This comes from the laziness in the men in our community. They don’t want to work. they want the ladies to go out there and get jobs. I cannot understand how you think your system works. Take a good look around you and notice that we live in a poor community with families who cannot afford life.

  • to an angry parent

the Rebbe’s view is,that a school must have choil studies available!!!
not just available but it should be “top-notch”!!!!!!!!!!

re a parent who wishes to personally delay choil studies as late as possible (9yo or 12yo or etc as the Rebbeh encouraged) the Rebbeh gave a special bracha that such a delay will NOT prevent the future success in parnasa!!

provided of course, that the parent DOES follow all the rest of the Rebbe’s guidance in parenting!

one cannot pick n choose and wonder why the “system” isent working!

  • P Amoni

The broader issue is that Lubavitchers are encouraged to lead an economically unsustainable lifestyle in the name of advancing Lubavitch’s core message: spread Judaism. Many children, no education, different dress code than others all contribute to communal poverty. I’m not criticizing Lubavitchers lifestyle, just stating a fact. I think if/ when Lubavitchers acknowldge that reality alot of the animosity will disappear. They will accept that living “the life” comes with the burden of communal poverty, and those with the ability to give will do so happily, and those without will accept poverty as a result of their mission (and be at peace) or leave.
