Judge Denies Request to Move Rubaskin Trial
DES MOINES, IA [AP] — A federal judge has denied a request from a kosher slaughterhouse and a former manager to move their trial out of Iowa because of pretrial publicity.
Agriprocessors Inc. and Sholom Rubashkin are charged with bank fraud, money laundering and violations of immigration law. Nearly 400 people were arrested in a May 2008 immigration raid at the Postville slaughterhouse.
Chief Judge Linda Reade denied the defendants’ motion to move the trial out of Cedar Rapids. She says in an order filed Wednesday that there is a substantial gap between the “zenith” of bad press in the case and the September trial date.
Agriprocessors and Rubashkin wanted the trial moved to Minneapolis or Chicago.
Not a favorable time
I think with the world fed up with the publicity of Madoff that this is not a favorable time for a Jew to have a trial.
Trying to delay the trial for as long as possible to let the climate cool off would be the best strategy at this time.
