CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — On Motzei Shabbos, MyShliach held an evening of appreciation for their dedicated volunteers, at the Jewish Children’s Museum in Crown Heights. Those attending the evening were participants of MyShliach’s Caring Mentor Program, a program that connects shluchim’s children with volunteer mentors. Since its inception, the program’s objective has been to facilitate open communication between the children and their mentors. Each week, MyShliach’s mentors call up their assigned child to Farbreng, learn a Sicha, or simply encourage the child through difficult times.

MyShliach’s logistical offices are located in Crown Heights, but its volunteers are in yeshivas and seminaries all over the globe. The program is geared to shluchim’s children, both boys and girls, therefore volunteers each learn with children of their respective genders.

Last nights evening was an exclusive evening of appreciation for the yeshiva bachurim who gathered in Crown Heights for an extended Yud Shevat weekend. Chairing the evening program was Rabbi Beryl Frankel, Director of My shliach who spoke of the volunteer’s dedication. “You play the role of an older influential brother for these amazing children. Instead of using your short and meager breaks for yourself, instead you use this time to help the Rebbe’s Kinder; that is amazing dedication and caring. The last three years of success have been made possible by you,” he said encouragingly.

In a special viewing arranged by Jewish Educational Media, the bachurim were shown never before seen footage of the Rebbe. Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky, vice chairman of Merkos Linyanei Chinuch and the Chairman of MyShliach, praised the volunteers for their special work: “I’m here tonight to thank you, on behalf of Shluchim all over the world, who call me and tell me about your dedicated work,” said Rabbi Kotlarsky. He jokingly continued, “even if you’re on a date take a moment and call the child you’re mentoring. Your date will be very impressed.”

Rabbi Frankel also announced MyShliach Live, an entirely new component to the mentor program, “We are in the advanced stage of setting up an online lounge, where you will be able to see a streaming video of the child you are mentoring, and vice versa. We hope to have it up and running very soon.”

Words of advice and experience were given over by Hatomim Zalman Shimon Wolf and Yossi Bassman, who have been active volunteers for the past two years. Rabbi Mendy Shanowitz, coordinator of MyShliach’s boys division, and organizer of last night’s event, gave the bachurim words of advice on how best to do their crucial work.

After the video presentation, Rabbi Mendy Kotlarsky the executive director
of MyShliach, spoke to the bachurim about the current, as well as the future programs of MyShliach.

At the event’s conclusion, hardhat boxes were distributed as gifts of appreciation to the bachurim for their hard work throughout the year.

MyShliach is indebted to the Rohr family for their vision and support in making our programs a reality.

MyShliach is a division of Merkos L’inyonei Chinuch.

to rrwe: You can’t begin to imagine how many teenagers and young adults come flocking to our BEIT CHABAD on account of the sushi parties that entice them to come in, and the REBBE is definitly very proud. Now as for us CHASSIDIM going crazy over sushi, I’m sure that if in Russia, instead of herring and potatoes, they would have had sushi,SUSHI IT WOULD BE!!!!
