JERUSALEM, Israel [CHI] — After just two years Michlelet Morasha, a Chabad girl’s seminary in Jerusalem closed its doors amid financial difficulties. In an email sent to parents a few days ago the administrations blamed its financial woes on the fall of the value of the American dollar along with changes to the way ‘MASA’ grants were given and the inability of parents to pay full tuition.
This email comes just weeks before the start of the school year, sending parents scrambling for alternatives. In the email the Education administrator wrote that “any student who is interested in attending any other seminary, I will be happy to help with giving a recommendation.”

Another troubling part of the letter was the following: “Regarding the tuition that has already been paid to the seminary: As the seminary is in the progress of dismantlement, there is no access to this money at the present time. Therefore, it is not possible to reimburse the tuition at this present time, however we fully intend to reimburse all tuition to parents as soon as this is possible.”
:(
unfair!!!
OMG
OMG, where are these girls going to go for seminary?
I guess Beis Rivkah seminary.
almost michlelet morasha student
i dont think bais rivkah seminary. i think that now more girls are opting to go on shlichus, which i personally think is not the smartest idea. a young girl just out of high school needs to grow in chassidus etc..
CHman
I’ll bet half of those girls will land in the wrong places… with blame falling on this seminary!
Survivor
“however we fully intend to reimburse all tuition to parents as soon as this is possible.”
Does anyone think I’ll see my money or will I have to pay twice for seminary.
aussie
9 DAYS BEFOR THE START!!!
WHAT ARE WE MENT TO DO NOW MR G’???
concerned mother
There are 10 girls enroute from Australia who are stranded -mostly in the USA – not knowing where or what they will do. Lubavich is known for their outreach except when it comes to Seminaries. Wouldn’t it make the Rebbe proud if other seminaries in Israel opened their doors to these girls who are the stranded with tickets to Israel and nowhere to go!
Shame man
What a devastation for those girls. and so close in time as well! Girls spend the summer preparing themselves and building up the excitement for this experience. Its true more and more girls do opt to go on shlichus which is no substitute for a year focused on personal growth in a chassidishe environment away from the norms of everyday life. The seminary has a responsibility to at least assist the girls in finding different locations to pursure the growth they had committed to providing. It is highly irresponsible that such a decision was made public so late. Lets see if those parents even get their money back at all.
wondering whats going to happen now?
i think its unfair as to whats is happening. this seminary might have not been then best sem around but it catered for everyone that wanted to go to sem. how about the girls who cant go to rosenfeld or chitrick bc of the high standards? or their just not ‘good enough’
will it become that our kids wont go to semianry anymore?
what if they are willing to only learn in a sem in israel and nothing caters to there standards?
there needs to be a seminary in israel which is willing to accept girls who arnt the most chassidish or who doesnt want to attend tzfat sem’s.
Vlad Ruchni
Scandalous!!!
Take money [$1000’s of dollars] from hard-pressed families without any clarification of a time span.
They write “it is not possible to reimburse the tuition at this present time, however we fully intend to reimburse all tuition to parents as soon as this is possible.” ”As soon as possible” for the owners of Michlelet Morasha [Mr Shmuel Gurewicz of Melbourne and/or Chani Sudri of Yerusholayim] may mean months or years. For desperate people whose money they have taken, as soon as possible means now.
And what of the girls who have already puchased non-refundable tickets to Israel with no Seminary to turn to at this late stage?
What a disgusting way to treat young girls and their parents who gave their committment to the seminary.
finally!!!
I think that this is a huge wake up call that SEMINARYS ARE ALL ABOUT MONEY.
Seminarys do not care about girls, only money. the seminaries charge WAYYYYYYY too much, more than anyone can afford and parents are put under too much stress to send their girls there….seminary is a waste oftim, most girls just go to have a good time, and the sooner ppl wake up to this and take a stand, the better
maybe this will make a lot of girls find other things to do other than sem, and girls and parents will realize its not so important as peer pressure will have us think.
or it will bring seminaries to find ways to stop ripping everyone off, and will stop this chaos!!!!
Me
Perhaps they should close them all and not burden the parents with $15,000 or so just to keep up with the Jones’.
mom
This is vrey unethical of the seminary administrators. They accepted money knowing there was a possibility they would not make it. If I were a parent that shelled out money I’d be fuming and I feel terrible for those that did. Hopefully other seminaries will let the girls in on extended payment plans given the situation.
sem
the worst that could happen is these girls going to non lubavitch sem’s, because there is no lubavitch seminary that are going to take these girls
frustrated
and what of the thousands of dollars still owed to parents from previous years?
The supposed 6 month loans that have yet to be paid back?
BR alumni
its not the end of the world to go to Bais Rivkah seminary- maybe this will end the ridiculous $15,ooo vacation year
HELLO
HELLO!!
LISTEN WHAT HAPPENED TO MY DAUGHTER!!!!!
SHE IS BOARDING THE PLANE TO ISRAEL TO GO TO ‘THIS SEM’, AND SHE GETSA A TEXT MESSAGE ‘STOP’ DONT GO!!
THE MESSAGE COINTINUED SAYING, “THE SEM IS CLOSING DOWN!!
DO YOU KNOW HOW SHE ANTICIPATED SEMINARY LIKE A KALLA WAITING HER WEDDING DAY!!!???
HOW CAN YOU DO THIS TO SOMEONE? AND SUCH LATE NOTICE?
MY DAUGHTER WAS BOARDING THE PLANE!! SHE WAS SUPPOSED TO GO STRAIGHT THERE. SHE CALLS ME FROM THE AIRPORT ”WHAT SHOULD I DO NOW?” I SENT HER TO A FRIEND TILL FURTHER NOTICE…..WHAT SHALL WE DO NOW?
SHOULDNT I BE REIMBURSED FOR HER PLANE BACK TO HOME?
been there but not again...
This is the reason why, when sems say they want tuition up front, I refuse. Especially for a relatively new school, why should the burden of risk be borne only by the parents / students? If there is machlokes during the year between admin. and staff, and some staff quit (as has happened), or for whatever reason the school doesn’t live up to its responsibility of educating the student, why do the parents get left holding the bag? “Sorry, we didn’t expect this to happen.” ???!! Nooooo way. The schools will get my tution dollars on a month-by-month basis — no more, no less. That leaves us equally invested in the project of making the year a successful one.
You can still have a great year
This is very disappointing, to be sure. Every girl planning to attend seminary in Israel is looking forward to a dream year. It is very painful to have this dream shattered
I think it is important to know that Bais Rivkah Seminary in NY is making a lot of positive changes and should be considered a viable option for these girls. Bais Rivkah has the best teachers and most dedicated principal you will find anywhere. And although it definitely does not have the Israel experience attached to it, it is a quality education. My daughter absolutely loved it when she went for Seminary Bais. And when she and her friends compared it to their Sem Alef experiences in the more exotic locations they came to the conclusion that the experience at Bais Rivkah was at least equal to, if not better than the other Seminaries.
Addtionally, I know that Bais Rivkah Sem does an Israel trip some years and it is outstanding.
Girls, don’t short-change yourselves because Bais Rivkah isn’t exciting enough. Despite this huge disappointment, you can get a great education and that is something you will never regret.
Sorry
This is terrible for the girls & their families. I feel very bad for them. The girls are devastated & the parents are out $$$.
What a shanda!!
reality bites
geniuses, the school is insolvent which means there is NO MONEY. better they tell you now rather then closing down 3 weeks into the year with your vulnerable daughters already in Israel. good thing they arent all there yet cause they would probably just end up being street walkers on ben yehuda.(well they prob would have done that regardless as lubavitch girls have a reputation for being easy and love to party a little to much)
anyway your money is probably gone so get over it start saving for your next girl and dont be upset your daughters will fair much better at home with you then in some shoddy seminary wasting their time. perhaps send them to a proper school so they will learn something useful and turn them into productive citizens so they will not have to beg for a livelihood when they marry some useless 770 boy who cant read or write let alone provide.
HELLO AGAIN
**HELLO AGAIN** !!
WHAT ABOUT MY DAUGHTER THAT WAS BOARDING , I MEAN MAMISH WALKING ONTO THE PLANE AND COULDNT GET OFF, NOW SHE IS SITTING IN ISRAEL WAITING FOR ME TO ‘CREATE’ ANOTHER OPTION.!
DOES ANYONE OUT THERE HAVE ANY GOOD IDEAS FOR A YEAR IN ISRAEL?
IF YOU ARE HANHALA READING THIS IN ISRAEL NOW, WILL YOU ACCEPT HER NOW PLEASE?
Shame man
i dont think its fair to say that sems are all about the money. a seminary is an expensive thing to run and it only makes sense that they charge what they do. i dont know many seminary principals that are living the high life. seminary is about growth and like everything in todays day and age it has a cost too. although it would not be an understatement to say their budgetary efforts need desperate improvement
HELLO i feel horrible for your daughter and all other girls in their situations and can only wish them the greatest luck in trying to find even more inspiring plans for the coming year
CROOKS!
The sickest part of this whole SCAM is the fact that the semenary cahsed all of the tuition checks on the 15th and sent out the email to the families on the 19th.
This entire thing was planned out. Mr *** and Mrs. ***, I dont know how you can sleep at night knowing you have stole thousands of dollars from hard working families and left these girls sitting on the curb. I am a strong believer in Midah Kneged middah, this will not just go away with time. You will be reapid somehow for this travesty you have caused these families. Mine included.
Grateful Parent of Sem Grad
Please don’t blame all the sems in Israel because of this terrible situation. My daughter had amazing life altering hashpa and education at Beit Chana in Tsfas. Many of the staff, including the extended Chitrik Family, gave her special attention. When she was in the Shidduch parsha, I even spoke repeatedly to one teacher, who became a mashpia, even though she didn’t know me personally, but cared about my daughter. As to the US $ tuition, they subsidize hundreds of girls from all over Israel who come there to learn, many for 4 years, that’s how long sem is there.
not nice at all
Bais Rivka should be scrambling to help their students get into another Seminary overseas. Even though BR has a good program the reality is that local girls, after 12 years in the same place, want a change & something new. So BR for BR students is not an attractive option.
Perhaps the Australian girls would stay here in NY for Sem…there are plenty of Aussie families who would be happy to befriend them.
Hope it all works out OK. And this defunct sem should pay back the parents NOW. YOU take out loans if necessary, but you have a moral obligation to pay them back for ALL their expenses, inc. tickets.
cas alum
i went to CAS in FL. 2 yrs ago and it was an so great. they do a yearly trip to Israel and give the girls the best of everything.
so for those of you who are looking for an alternative- definitely try there.
Mum
What bothers me is they cashed my check Aug. 5 knowing they will be closing down. Her excuse was the bank is holding all the checks and they are automatically deposited. Stop your checks now.
Parent of a former student
The reason this school is having financial difficulties is because of financial mismanagement. This school brought in about half a million dollars in tuition alone last year, and parents were told that it must be paid in full as nobody is getting a discount. This does not include all the additional expenses for trips, books, photocopies etc. Plus they had some government assistance as well. Parents are still owed MASA money, which they will not receive as the school is ignoring all correspondence for the past month.
Yossele
There are probably other such mosdos that belong closing their doors, as opposed to crushing families with a $15,000 and up tuition. (in E”Y no less).
saw with my own eyes
be happy that your daughters are not going to israel. other seminaries there will not accept them at this time. the girls that go to israel other than 75% of the chitrik girls hang out in bars and clubs dancing and getting drunk, making out with boys etc until all hours of the am!! parents do not send your daughters to israel. beware. they are ruined there.
A little perspective over here!
seminary is a stage of life and an experience that can be achieved no matter where you are in the world. as to some of your comments, the chassidishkeit of the sems in general has nothing to do with the menahlim of the sems, but on the group of girls themselves! and i hate to break it to you, but its up to each individual girl in each sem to take as much as she can out of the sem year. if your child sleeps through class, gets up to the wrong things… it has nothing to do with the amazing shiurim that the sem offers! personally, i dont feel that EVERYONE should go to israel for sem, there are great sems out there in all the courners of the world..paris..melbourne…sydney…florida…montreal…ch etc. besides for israel- why is sem always associated with ISRAEL? IF YOU WANT TO HAVE FUN IN ISRAEL, PARTY AND GET UP TO STUFF IN ISRAEL, BOOK YOURSELF A HOLIDAY… DONT WHASTE YOUR TIME AND YOUR PARENTS MONEY! and if you went to 3 specific sems in israel, of the many other sems in the world, you are gods gift to the world?!? for the ammount of chabad school graduates there should be equal places in seminaries… and if there arent enough places… open up more sems! there is by far not enough sems out there! there is also not enough of the right attitude towards sems. and to the person who says seminaries should be shut down, well they SHOULD NOT be shut down… the rebbe opened them up for a reason, who are we to say otherwise? it is very unfortunate that this sem has closed donw… and i feel sorry for those who are stranded in this muddle!! i have no suggestions.. but to keep strong and stand up for what you want!
rachmonus
I am not going to sit here and judge anyone. Nor am I belittling the loss financial and otherwise that the parents and the girls who were affected by the closing of the seminary.
But I must add my thoughts to this dialogue.
When the meat tragedy in Monsey happened, a famous and well known Rov in a Shul got up to speak on Shabbos, you can well imagine how quiet it was with all the people waiting to hear what the Rov was going to say. When there was complete silence he said that, “that person could’ve have been any person sitting is this room” meaning do not judge or measure anyone.
It is obvious that something real bad must have happened with this seminary, if you the parents trusted them to send your girls thousands of miles away, and allow this seminary to teach, care, and be Mashpia on your daughters. Then as hard as it may be we should all, including us who have not sent our girls to this seminary, give them a chance and not to curse, and bad mouth them.
Feel for them, as you can not imagine the pain and shame they are going through, I don’t know who they are, nor does it mater, I just want them to know that I for one will not judge you.
Shmuel Gruber
Many years ago my daughter from CH was in Kfar Chabad Seminary. The seder was as follows:
Every 3 weeks the seminary closed and the girls were sent out. NO ONE asked or worried where they are going for the weekend.
Some terrible stories happened at the time. However the girls involved were paying so they were left in seminary.
One girl from Engalnd who parents were behind in payment was taken to the airport and sent home even though she was a good girl.
This is the way the chutz laaertz seminaries were started.
Been there done that
Lubavitch sem in Israel is a JOKE, from its admission process right through to its closing down before it’s even begun.
Save your money, time and 30 pounds and do something worthwhile.
BR teacher
What a fundamental year. I just hope the girls realize that wherever they end up is WHERE HASHEM INTENDS for them to be and it is up to them to make the best of the worst situation. I love all your girls and wish them the best.
LISTEN TO ME. I WAS RUINED
PARENTS I REPEAT DO NOT SEND YOUR DAUGHTERS TO ISRAEL. NOTHING IS GOOD IS GAINED THERE EXCEPT BY A VERY TINY PERCENTAGE OF GIRLS. BANNING CELLPHONES IS A JOKE-THE RABBONIM SHOULD GET TOGETHER AND ENFORCE THE CLOSING OF ALL SEMINARIES IN ISRAEL. ALL LUBAVITCH SEMINARIES IN ISRAEL DO NOT KEEP PROPER TABS ON THE GIRLS. THE GIRLS ARE FFFFRRRRREEEEEEEEEE. EVERYONE IS JEWISH SO EVERYTHING GOES THERE. IT IS SOOOOO DANGEROUS WHAT GOES ON THERE. KEEP YOUR GIRLS HOME. SHLICHUS IS A WAY BETTER OPTION.
responsbility
this is the second one this year to do this… whats gonna happen… dont do this… be responsible
moshiach now
i feel bad for those people involved… head of sem, students… hopefully moshiach will come and no one will have shame otr have to wonder what to do next
MOSHIACH NOW
Shocked
This whole story about the seminary closing down seemed to be pretty shocking when I read the article but what surprised me most are the comments that unthinking unfeeling people had the audacity to write!
Firstly this person who keeps warning against sending your daughters to seminary because they are free and just go there to mess around, ur looking at a minority. Obviously there will be girls who want to go out and have inappropriate fun but many girls have had their lives shaped and changed from spending a year learning and growing in israel. I have seen it first hand. It is your daughters choice whether she wants to benefit or not from all the incredible things that are handed to her on a silver platter in seminary. If your daughters upbringing was one that would make her want to run wild and free as soon as she is away from her parents, I wouldnt suggest you put the blame on the seminarys.
Secondly how could someone suggest that the seminary is intentionally scaming the parents involved?! Do you think the seminary wanted to be in this situation? Do you think they were intending to steal your money and then walk away just like that? OBVIOUSLY NOT!
Yes, it is a difficult situation and im really sorry for the parents and girls who have been affected by it.
Maybe we all need to stop being so judgemental, start giving people the benefit of the doubt and even having pity for those who are stuck in this terrible financial mess. Look past ourselves for a minute and think about their situation before we get all worked up and start making unnecessary comments.
And lastly to the person who cursed the MR ans MRS involved midda kenneged midda I seriously hope you think about taking that back. You have NO idea what they are going through.
Devorah
i was in that seminary last year and so i witnessed first hand the running of it and im not saying its a good thing they took/stole peoples money but im deffinatly
saying its a good job its closed down. the head of the sem has no idea what she is doing, she just likes to make a mockery of the fact that girls parents are naive paying her money for there daughters to learn when really they are not. i am AGAINST all seminaries bichlall but even more now after my horendous experience there.i should never have gone there. she is a young women in her mid 20’s who had authority and liked to use it to her advantage and not only that when she took time off to have a baby her husband came into the dormitory knowing full well girls would not be dressed tzniusly to wake girls up. the only 2 sems i would ever suggest to people are melbourne and florida i have never heard a girl come out of the above 2 sems mentioned and say they hate it. sems are not always going to be perfect but new yerushalayim was by far the worst sem i have heard in times.
hy
if you cant afford to pay sem tuition and you talk to the hanholoh the same answer always comes back … sorry we cant help you ….. take out a personal loan or max your credit cards and pay tuition
now that this hanholoh has no money to pay back parents who have paid money in good faith by taking out loans etc i say to the hanholo
you hanholoh take out personal loans, max your credit cards to pay back the parents who paid money in good faith and dont hide behind any chapter 11 BS
h
seminary chassidus teacher
in general, now that 2 sems have closed down, it’s gonna be abit hard for the lubavitch scene. all the other sems are gonna have to accept more gilrs, and not make it so hard to get in.
whoever is syaing that they got ‘ruined’…dont blame it on israel…its YOU–shlichus is soo much more of oppurtunity to get ‘ruined’–ur freedom is more dangerous…..i think that sem is crucial in your personal developement and developemnt in chassidishkeit..!!!! these girls will find somewhere to go…its hashgacha protis–get over it! stop being soo cynical!
Sem in Israel
To Listen to me i was ruined, you seem to have alot of hate, anger and pain towards your sem year in Israel. Obviously it didnt work well for you but dont catergorize us all, I went to Israel and yes it was a major eye-opener for me (in the party, drinks scence etc) but also put me in a position to create my own boundaries, evidentially you were depending on someone other then yourself to create and uphold them for you.
Each girl in my sem came away with something some much more then others but you have to be willing and mature enough to make full use of what the sem is offering.
I’m not trying to boast about the sem i went to because none of us are perfect, so yes we still had flaws such as favorites, girls with names or those whose parents have paid upfront, but they obviously still need to learn, I hope its sooner rather then later!
Hatzlacha to those girls who got the bum deal, I hope it works out well for you soon!
shmuel
I am one of those parents who got an email the other day as well – we ran to the bank only to find the check had just gone through
(BTW I was in EY last month and went to visit the sem to see what it was like – I was told that “everyone was out of town for the 2 weeks I was there” but I persisted and saw the place and was told it was being gotten ready for the year.
Then a rumor began to circulate that the sem was tanking. Again I called and was assured everything was fine.
After 25 years of practicing law, I know that that is called fraud There are international fraud and wire violations here.
– any aggrieved parents can contact me and perhaps we can try to bring them to their senses – my daughter is devastated and we’re still numb but we’re gonna see this thing through
please email me swfarms@together.net – and please don’t tell me about chilul Hashem or chilul Lubavitch – tell it to the good folks the “revered educators doing the Rebbe’s work” who stole our money and broke our daughter’s hearts.

As it says in the gemara “yavo ba’al hakerem v’yotzi hakotzim” I guess its just out hishtadlus to push the meeting forward.
michlelet morash 08
i am shoked at what you are all writing!!!
how could any of you say that “seminarys in israel is a waste of time” and that everyone who goes ends up in bars, clubs etc. i for one was just in seminary last yr, in michlelet morasha, and i can say on behalf of 99% of the girls, that we all had a great amazing time both in ruchnius and gashmius. we had unbelievable teachers and trips and wouldnt give up that yr for anything. and sure a few people went out and “had a good time” but it was ust a few, just like in every other seminary there are a few, even the “chassidish” tzfat sems.
and if your blaming israel, or the choice of seminarys for what the girls get up to in israel- well u have no one but yourselfs-the parents to blame.
i spent every day for a year with my princible, and i know she really does care about her students, and she happens to be a very nice freindly lady i dont think her or the other pple involoved are ahppy about this situation, or doing it to steal money from anyone- do u really think there not ashamed or embaressed? believe me if they could keep michlelet morasha open, they would!
and which seminary you go to, means nothig. reputation shmeputation! i know “bad” girls who went to chitrik, and amazing girls who were in my yr. as long as u go with the right intentions and a knowing who you are, then ur allright to go to israel!!! and u will have the most unbelievable yr like i did- in MICHLELET MORASHA
and by the way, you all suggesting these girls should go to crown heights, well that no better, ive seen the things that go on there, and quit frank;y, it is the same things that go on in ben yehuda!! your all so narrow minded and living in a box, you just dont c it!!!
A bit MORE perspective
In response to “A little perspective over here:”
You wrote: “For the amount of chabad school graduates there should be equal amount of places in sems.”
, you are absolutely right- there should be but then you write“
”If there are not enough, then open up more sems!”
Who exactly are you adressing this remark to? That is such a casual statement to make. fine how about YOU open up a sem. Go ahead. no one is stopping you. WHO exactly is responsible for opening up more sems? No one. if they choose to then be grateful they are and your daughters/sisters have some places to go but if no one does, who exactly is to blame?
oy!
BS”D
From personal experience, I saw that even seminaries that subsidize their ISRAELI students, do not help at all with their American ones. If you’re American and can’t pay, then they clearly tell you ‘DON’T COME’. When this was told to an Israeli from this specific seminary, she was shocked that this was how the very same principal who gives openly to the Israelis can be so harsh with the Americans.
Not fair.
Not right.
And yet… The Aibishter runs the world, no matter how much we’d like to blame others, He know’s what He is doing, and all of us end up where we are meant to go- and may all these girls quickly and clearly find out where the Aibishter plans for them to be.
i saw it too
i was in israel for sukkos last year and recommend that every parent go before sending their daughter off blindly. the seminaries do not have a clue where the girls are for 2 whole weeks!!! they need not check in at all unlike the non-lubavitch seminaries where the girls are strictly supervised every hour of the day. like other people wrote the girls run wild. when i was going to the shuk at 6 am to shop for yomtov i saw girls out on the street that clearly had not been to bed yet. girls that i knew to be lovely and not in to the wrong things at home. what happened in a few short weeks? israel is way too much of a challenge for our girls. it’s not like shlichus when you are giving and therefore do not receive the influence of those around you. the girls are in israel to receive and receive they do exceptionally well-they drink, go to clubs, party and are loose and easy with the boys. and all this in a very short time. it is your fault if you send your daughter to a seminary in israel. they are better off working for a shliach at least then they are giving and not receiving!! do not send your daughter to israel.
Together, Let-s break the cycle
Let’s Break the cycle,
Parents, Daughters, take a hard look at “why you want or are going to seminary in Israel” Do you want to learn? you can do that in BR. Do you want to be in a “chassidishe” environment- again you can create that here. Do you want to see and tour Israel? you can go for a two week trip and conquer all the holy and interesting places.
It’s about time that girls ‘stay home a bit’- they just finished high school- where they were so busy with projects and tests that took them away from quality family time. Now they are eighteen- it’s time to get a bit serious- party time is over…..
Then… we cry about the shiduchim crisis- many 20+ girls are waiting….
maybe it’s because they are in a “party mode”, maybe they are in the “conquer the world mode”… maybe they have seen it all and ‘think’ they know it all and reject prospective offers… or maybe it’s because parents are subconsciously turning down shiduchim when the girls are of age because they simply DO NOT money because they dished it all out for SEMINARY- frankly seminary is a year of vacation and fun… don’t kid yourselves!! Save that money for a down payment on a house so your daughters can start their married life on the right foot! Good Luck and Hatzlocha to all.
Together, let’s break the cycle…look into the REAL reason why you are sending or going to seminary – at what age does peer pressure stop?
STOP
AM I THE ONLY PERSON WHO HEARD THAT MRS. SUDRI HAD A STROKE?????
MAYBE WE SHOULD STOP CURSING THE SEMINARY OUT AND TAKE A COUPLE OF MINUTES TO DAVEN FOR HER, A YOUNG MOTHER WHO REALLY TRIED HARD TO MAKE THE SEMINARY WORK OUT AND IS NOW SICK!!!
A concerned citizen
I can’t believe what I am reading here — It is definitely a terrible thing that the seminary closed, and a big rachmanut on the girls and their parents – but the words/things that are being said as comments. Even if things like this happen in Eretz Yisroel, which I sure hope they don’t and they are just an exaggeration of some angry people, don’t write about such things in public. What are you doing?? Think for a minute about the ramifications of your actions — I’m talking to the people writing — what are you doing?
Another thought: Eretz Yisroel is the holiest place on earth — let’s try and direct our children to understand that before they go to EY — it’s not a place to party — it is a place to grow and gain as many post high school students do. If your child is not thinking about growing and gaining and improving, and not recognizing the Kedusha in EY, then it really is not a good place for them.
I don’t mean to sound preachy — I just was very taken aback but some of the comments written here.
And my best wishes to all the girls who must scramble to find a place now — like someone wisely said — you will land in the place that was destined min hashamayim for you. And I hope that all the parents get their money back ASAP — and like someone else wrote here — let’s not be too judgemental on the administration here — they must be going through some terrible times to make a decision like this and I am sure that they are not feeling very good about it!
where should I start?
First, this should settle the phony argument that there are not enough spaces in seminaries: if 3 seminaries in israel close down in the span of 3 month, i guess there are not enough students to fill these seminaries. (perhaps there are not enough spaces in the 3 elitists seminaries in israel, but even that is debatable, given that enrollement has significantly shrunk this year even by chitrik, when some chutz laaretz sems are flourishing)
secondly, why seminary experience must equate israel?! as many others stated, we learn just as much if not more in chutz laaretz. granted, you won’t have chayalim, falafel and ice cream at every corner in melbourne, montreal or CH.
next, if i want to enjoy myself in israel, i can do it in 2 month for about $3000, without having to ditch any class or feel guilty for wasting my parents’ money and a whole year.
and yes, $15,000 is an insane sum to pay for a year in any institution. it does not cost that much. regardless of the 4000 masa gives and the 2000 you get from pell grants.
just think about it: how come good seminaries in chutz laaretz survive and excell charging only 10,000 and giving scholarships when we know that cost of living is much higher there than in israel?
shouldn’t parents boycot all overpriced and overrated seminaries?! you’ll get good shiduchim regardless.

“AM I THE ONLY PERSON WHO HEARD THAT MRS. SUDRI HAD A STROKE?????”
apparently yes you are – as of 7:19 am this morning I spoke with someone from the school who nt only had not heard that but who spoke to Mrs Sudry and hour earlier and assured me she was fine and had no such a stroke. I’m curious who you are and what is the source of your information

Just for the record The cost of sending your daughter to seminary including tuiution, airline tickets, Cell phone, money for your daughter for trips and etc…, is $22,000.00 plus not including visiting her another $5,000.00.
TOTALLY overated supervision???? sent two of my daughters to Seminary in Israel.
A CONCERND PARENT
“however we fully intend to reimburse all tuition to parents as soon as this is possible.”
On this note, my brother in-law is still waiting for his refund from Ottawa yeshiva, the money was collected for yeshiva and now BERGER has his new job in Melbourne.
Q, if in Lubavitch we have approx’ 3 girls to one boy where are theas girls supposed to go.
Sem in Israel wrote: scroll up to see her comments, She’s my daughter, she went to Rebbetzin Yurkowitz’s sem who closed because of some thoughtless stupid girl madrichot that bad mouth’s her I was zoiche to have had 2 of my daughter’s there I as a parent was VERY HAPPY they were helpful and considerate
And not money grabbing like some other’s
No where is perfect but the Yurkovitz’s are good people
A CONCERND PARENT
LISTEN TO ME. I WAS RUINED wrote:
What a bunch of rubbish,
sem was very good for my daughter’s B’H
That was under rebbertzin Yurkowitz as I mentioned earlier.
SHLICHUS, parent’s sending your daughter on shlichus you must be careful some shluchim use the girls beyond their duty, and some shluchim place’s are very modern and not always good for our girls to see.
Shmuel Digger
Two of my daughters went to sem in Israel. B”H nothing happened to them. However his was not because of the sem. The oppurtunities were there. Everything was open for them.
The sems are there for business. Israelies do not pay and you cannot make money on them.
You cannot squeeze Israelis as they just will not give. You can squeeze people from chuts laaretz even though they work hard and don’t have enough.
When it comes to time off remeber your daughter is on her own. Your money is good on her time off also even though the hanhala is not caring about your daughter then.
response to shmuel
apparently SHMUEL your friend that is part of the hanhalah does not wish to inform you. Because i heard about the stroke too.
Shocked at the lameness of this argument
This argument is stupid and pointless. How can you say that all seminaries are a waste of time? Just cuz you know someone who had a bad time. Its like all schools, some people gain and some unfortunately loose. Thats life! Get over it. Yes its a shame that this seminary closed and no its not right. But take your anger out on Michlelet Marasha, not the other seminaries in Israel which are doing a mighty fine job.
An Outrage
To Concerned Parent,
Face it you have no clue what your daughter did or did not do, what her friends did or did not do. You have no idea if she was ruined or not. You are not in touch. I was there with your daughter and you would choke on your words if you knew what was going on. How dare you say that someone who is telling the truth is talking rubbish???
Thankyou.
I understand that Mr S Gurewicz has forwaded a letter of explanation to crownheights.info which i am sure will be posted on your website soon in the interests of your readership. Many of your readers will benefit from this letter.
Just a thought
Can everyone please just stop badmouthing everybody else? For everyone who feels the need to let out their personal anger in a public forum, please take 10 seconds to reread what you write before you post it and decide whether any good will come of it. It probably won’t. Just a thought.
on the fence but respects the Gs
i’d recommend that people keep their thoughts to themselves and conduct their own reliable research other and communicate in a more efficient and factual manner (than internet blogs). This is ridiculous. It’s just lashon hara spirling out of control. No one except those behind the scenes really knows what happened so its simply wrong to exacerbate the problem through nasty allegations

As a parent of one of the girls who was going to this seminary I can tell you that Mr. G has been up front in handleing this situation. AHe rushed the return of funds paid so I was able to pay tuition at another seminary. Thank you Mr. G.
