Camp Counselor Unhurt After Being Struck by Lightning

A counselor in the Masmidim division of Camp Gan Israel Montreal was struck by lighting during a severe storm on Thursday. After being checked out at a local hospital he was released a few hours later.

The incident occurred while a group from the camp was away on a trip. Toward the end of a fun day the weather took an ugly turn and a storm quickly rolled in.

One counselor gathered the campers and ushered them onto their waiting bus, and as the counselor himself was getting on he was hit by a lightening bolt.

At first he appeared to have been unharmed, but camp directors were not going to take a chance and after consulting with local doctors they took a trip to the local hospital – just as a precaution. A couple of hours later he was discharged and given a clean bill of health B”H.

    • Funny what we see

Funny….Hashem struck him by lightning but also watched over him. hmm.

  • well....

the chances of getting struck by lightning are just as high as wining the lottery… he should’ve bought a ticket

    • not sure

I think the chances of winning the lottery are GREATER than being struck by lightening. He should DEFINITELY buy a ticket!

Chasdei Hashem! May HKB”H Continue to watch over him, and all of klal yisrael!

  • me

I idon’t think who it is is very relevant… BH he is doing as he was the day before – therefore there is no name for Tehilim, hence that information is not relevant..

Thank you for the well wishes and concern

  • just saying

time for montreal to rethink the safety and standards of their campsite.

    • what does one have to do with the other?

He was on a trip out of camp and he got struck while pushing his campers onto the bus BH he had the foresight to get everyone on and he was the last one outside that’s when he was hit while holding the bus handle to close the door…

    • Someone who was there.

I was there and this story had nothing to do with camp. He was going onto a bus and the bus was hit. Not saying it wasn’t a big deal just that it was a freak accident!!

Lighting will strike anywhere… If he’s outside he can get struck.. Don’t think it has anything to do with the camp…

  • Montrealer

It was NOT a direct hit!
and… he had 2 slices of pizza before he went to the hospital!!

Yes it was a Nes!! but lets not over dramatize the situation!!

    Thank you.

As a medical professional I’ve seen a number of these. It is NOT that unusual, and it IS a nes when someone survives this well.

It didnt happen at a campsite
    It didnt happen in camp
It didnt happen on the way
    It happened in MTL.
    Get it? Got it? GOOD!

Alter Mayer Tuchferderburger… where have I heard that name before?

But anyways, B.H. he survived, but if it’s true that he was on a bus, then what happened is that the metal body of the bus channeled the electricity around him directly into the ground via the tires. Whatever electricity hit him was only residual–the full power, or the majority, of the electricity in a lightning bolt is enough to instantly kill more than one person with a direct hit. Thank G-d it seems to have largely gone around him, not through him.

    • Someone who was there.

he wasn’t on the bus he was in a puddle of water outside the bus, closing the door behind the campers, and he got the full force of the lightning bolt!!! BH he is alive!!!

  • worried

They need to get rid of those tents once and for all! People think that Masmidim can handle anything…

  • he was lucky

The father of a childhood friend of mine died after being struck by lightening. It’s no laughing matter. B”H he is OK.
