Ten patients were taken to Kings County Hospital and four were taken to Brookdale Hospital. Five people are said to be in serious, but stable condition. The remaining passengers suffered just minor injuries.

The driver was pinned behind the wheel.

“The rescue units on the scene from fire rescue and police emergency services used a tool to get him out and other power tools to remove him,” said EMS Deputy Chief Howard Sickles.

EMS officials are not sure what caused the accident.

A few hours later, at around 10 a.m., a third bus – a B-43 – rear-ended a car, knocking it straight into the same intersection. The driver of the car was taken to Kings County Hospital as a precaution.

Workers are on the scene trying to restore the traffic light that was knocked down in the first accident.

not surprising. Those bus drivers are crazy drivers and think they own the road!!!

  • watiing to happen

I hate to say this, but it was bound to happen. Have you ever been driving near a city bus., They do not care about the other drivers on the road. They always come into traffic without any consideration for the other drivers. Maybe now they will realize that they are not the KING of the road.

At the scene it was mentioned that the driver told accident investigators that he had choked on a hard candy and lost control of the bus.

  • Eye witness

I was a witness to the accident. After crossing the street I heard a crash and looked to my left to see a city bus clip the back of another city bus (there were three of them lined up on the block) on New York Ave. After clipping the other city bus, the bus continued on and crashed into the traffic light on the corner of the 71st precinct.

    It looked pretty serious

I continue to be amazed how so many autos and buses create unsafe conditions at this intersection despite all the NYPD cars and NYPD presence. If this corner is not safe, no corner can be safe.

  • separate lanes for buses
