by CrownHeights.info

A hit and run driver who also assaulted his victim is on the run Friday after he crashed his car in Crown Heights and punched a man in the face.

Crown Heights Shomrim received a call for a crash on Brooklyn Ave near Sterling Street at approximately 11:22pm Thursday night, and even before the call could be dispatched, another call came in that the driver in the crash had assaulted his victim.

Shomrim volunteers were on scene within 90 seconds, but the perpetrator had already fled the scene.

According to reports, the driver of a minivan had hit a white Dodge car before slamming into another parked vehicle. When the driver of the white Dodge came out of his car to speak with the driver of the minivan, he was punched in the face. The minivan driver then fled the scene just moments before Shomrim’s arrival.

The police were called as Shomrim volunteers canvassed the area. Unfortunately, the perpetrator was not found and a police report was filed when the NYPD arrived.

Anyone who gets out of their car, day or night, or even opens their windows to interact with someone they have gotten into an accident with (whether they are at fault or not) are ASKING to get beaten up. This has happened time and again in Brooklyn. If you get into a fender bender/accident/etc DO NOT GET OUT OF YOUR CAR, DO NOT OPEN YOUR WINDOW.

After the MiniVan driver tried to drive away but couldn’t since the wheel was busted. He wanted to leave and the other driver wasn’t letting him leave and then they got into a fist fight and then ran away

If the car that hit you remains on the scene that is just fine for insurance purposes. Who was driving the car is totally irrelevant.
