  • LOOK BEFORE YOU CROSS

It is terrifying to drive in Crown Heights these days with all the Israelis who cross whenever they wish without looking. They literally walk into oncoming traffic with no regard.

  • benefit of the doubt

in answer to previous comment: in tzfat there are no traffic lights. you cross the street and the cars must stop for you. lots of bochurim from tzfas come to crown heights and they aren’t used to american traffic rules.

  • CAUTION

They say the Fredediker Rebbe used to get very upset to see Bochurim crossing from 749 across the middle of Eastern Parkway!! Please tell one another to learn by example and stop, one person at a time.

  • non-israeli

Why do you blame the israelis? there are plenty of ‘non-israelis’ that don’t either cross carefully! Just to note that in Toronto there is also such a rule that pedestrians can cross wherever they want and drivers must yield to them.

Normally, when there’s a law to stop for pedestrians, it’s at certain places, marked for them.
And even in those places, I’m sure in Toronto, ppl. look b4 crossing! You can’t walk 2 ft. in front of a car going 40 mph, and expect it to stop on time.
Unfortunately, even now ppl won’t learn. Each person seems to think they’re special, and nothing can happen to them.

The truth is, I’m not Israeli, and yet I will, sometimes cross in the middle, but only if I see that there are absolutely no cars coming from either direction.
And I will not cross within 20 ft. of the corner, (unless in the white lines) bec. I know that drivers turning from Kingston won’t see me until it’s too late.
