Car Impounded After Hit and Run in Crown Heights

A hit and run in Crown Heights thankfully ended without injury Wednesday night, in a crash that saw the perpetrator flee the scene on foot.

According to Crown Heights Shomrim, who were the first responders on scene at Union St and Schenectady Ave, the vehicle responsible had crashed into another car being driven by a Jewish man, damaging it to the point of where it was no longer drivable.

The perpetrator then fled on foot, leaving his car and the second damaged vehicle behind.

Despite a large crowd, the Shomrim volunteers kept the scene calm for the police, who arrived minutes later and began putting the story together.

As the police officers worked to get the story, a Crown Heights Shomrim volunteer spotted the perpetrator believed to be responsible for the hit and run as he waited for someone on Utica Ave. Before the police were able to arrive and investigate, the man got into a car and was driven away.

“Our volunteers responded to a hit and run in the area of Union and Schnectady,” Crown Heights Shomrim reported. “Upon arrival, we were able to secure the scene and keep the scene calm until the police arrived. The perpetrators car was taken by police.”

While the perpetrators car was impounded by the NYPD, the Jewish man’s car was also out of commission and required a tow truck to transport it to a mechanics shop.
