BMW Driver Wrecks His Car in Crown Heights, Pulls A Switch To Run Away

A sneaky driver managed to slip away from the scene of a crash in Crown Heights Motzei Shabbos after pulling a switch with another person.

The driver of a dark colored BMW wrecked his car on Union Street near just passed Kingston Ave around 11:00pm Motzei Shabbos, sending a parked SUV onto the sidewalk and causing it to hit another minivan.

Video of the crash provided to Shomrim showed a group of local Jewish residents flocking to the scene of the crash, where they reported that a male got out of the driver seat of the crashed vehicle.

Witnesses reported that the driver at first appeared to be staying on scene, but suddenly walked to Albany Ave and got into a waiting red vehicle. Community members surrounded the vehicle and made sure it didn’t leave after calling Shomrim and 911.

After realizing he could not leave, the man then appeared again to look like he would stay on scene before getting into a white pickup truck and fleeing the scene.

Armed with the ID of all the involved vehicles and pictures of the driver, Shomrim approached the arriving the NYPD officers with the information.

It was the that they learned that the female driver of the red vehicle, which had driven from Albany Ave back to the scene, was claiming that she was the driver of the crashed BMW.

The police took reports from all those involved and towed the crashed vehicle.
