Drunk Driver Does Extensive Damage To Multiple Cars on Troy Ave, Is Arrested

Don’t drink and drive, this is what happens.
A man driving very drunk Monday evening crashed into multiple cars, took out a parking sign, and ended up attempting to explain himself to Crown Heights Shomrim volunteers before ending up in cuffs.
Crown Heights Shomrim received a call around 6:00pm regarding a person driving erratically on Troy Ave near Montgomery Street, and that the driver had actually crashed into a parked car.
Surveillance video of the incident shows as the car, a black vehicle with taxi plates, slams into a parked utility van before the driver drunkenly attempts to continue driving his now heavily banged-up car.
In quick succession, the driver managed to completely fail an attempt to turn his car straight, hit multiple parked vehicles, then drove through an intersection and hopped a curb.
Still attempting to drive, the driver made it as far as Union Street before coming to a halt. Shomrim volunteers then engaged the driver in discussion, keeping him stationary until the police arrived.
Clearly inebriated, the man then attempted to explain away the incident, telling the Shomrim volunteers that it was he who had been hit and that he was simply attempting to find a safe place to pull over.
Needless to say, when the police arrived they arrested him for hit and run as well as driving under the influence. Open bottles of alcohol were also discovered in the car.
Crown Heights Shomrim Coordinator Mendy Hershkop thanked the volunteers and the police officers, saying “Thanks to our quick and great response by our volunteers, we were able to get this menace off the road and keep him stationary until the police arrived. Thanks to the quick response by the police, the streets of Crown Heights are now much safer.”
