The driver was heard saying that ‘she thought that she wasn’t going to go into the street’. The father of the girl told CrownHeights.info that the readers should say Kapitel Chof for all “Choilay Am Yisroel” with his daughter included (the Kapitel is included in the Extended Article).

CrownHeights.info would like to urge all pedestrians to look both ways and wait until all vehicles come to a full stop before crossing the street. And drivers please slow down, don’t try to rush and make the light, and be especially careful when kids are going to and from school.

  • Worst intersection in CH

I was driving past right after this happened. I saw the girl lying in the street at least 20 feet from the cross walk. I assumed she was crossing between two parked cars. Do you mean to say that she was crossing in the cross walk and was thrown so far?? And again by one of the most dangerous intersections in CH. What do we have to do to change this intersection and make it safer? Maybe a camera that takes pictures of cars going through red lights will slow people down. We have to, as a whole community, write a petition to the powers that be to get something done. This could chas v’shalom happen to any of our kids.

Refuah Sheleimah, this is horrible news … very sad.

just as a side note .. as I recall when something like this happened to a black child didnt we have rioting for days … it’s a good reminder of what seperates us from them.

  • Shocked

What, if anything, happened to this lowlife?

May I suggest that kids only cross @ intersections where there are school crossing guards? I know it’s dark, cold, & probably a longer way home, but these crossing guards do watch out for the kids.

This was not the child’s fault (chas V’Shalom) but it’s a sort-of solution to what is an ongoing problem. Speed Cameras down this part of Empire are essential.

    Over to you, Mr. Rubashkin.

    Refuah shleima to the child.

I live around there and one of the main problems there is that cars from Empire make a left turn so fast onto Troy ave. I hold my breath when i cross and i do look all ways to make sure that cars dont turn onto me. Some cars turn so close to the curb that its so dangerous.

There are many kids who wait for the buses there as well kids who walk to school there, there must be a turning signal there even if it means a longer wait at the light. This is serious stuff.

I live near this intersection and I think that it is the most dangerous one in Crown Heights…

May the girl have a full and speedy recovery, Amen.

  • accident solution

perhaps it might be an idea to have a patrolman/woman at that corner until 5:00 p.m. since it’s such a hazardous cormer.

For all those of you wondering, the girl did cross Legally, she was in the cross walk! The impact send her over 60 feet to where you see all the Emergency Medical Personal treating her.

  • Another mother

A complete and immediate refuah sheleima. Said some Tehillim, and will continue. Please keep us updated.

  • Nobody

So the driver ran a red light? There is no way that both were completely legal if she was crossing Empire and the car came down Empire.

  • Seventh Grade

    Hey!!!
    This is the seventh grade!!
We are all saying tehilim for you. we miss you alot and hope you feel better as soon as possible.
    Love seventh grade (your class)

  • Petitioner

A petition to the Mayor, Letitia James etc. for speed bumps may work, as this block has a big public school and they care about THEIR kids.

    Let’s begin one.

  • concerned

it was an elderly man that was hit on friday night at around 7 pm in the same intersection. he was taken by hatzala may he have a speedy recovery.

  • to shocked

    To shocked:

There are not crossing guards available at every intersection of the city

A school can have crossing guards at one or two spots close to their school and that’s it (maybe even only one – someone in the know can clarify)
Bais Rivka has theirs on Empire to cover the biggest two way cross, and has their own workers on Lefferts to maximize the coverage, but after that, each child goes their own way, how would you cover that?

  • Please, no speed bumps

Speed bumps slow down emergency vehicles. Speed cameras and strict enforcement of speeding laws will solve the problem.

    “Worst intersection in CH wrote:

Meaning ….it could happen again to anybody and THEREFORE each and everyone of us should treat this as if it were OUR child and actually DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT instead of just venting on Crown Heights Info. Get it?

  • Still Shocked

    TO SHOCKED
Try reading what I wrote. I’ll use smaller words next time.

Horrible! If she did cross Empire Blvd. legally, safely, (according to Webby) this driver should be severly punished. She ran the red light!
    Refuah shelaima! Say Tehillim!
New York is a wild place! Animal drivers! Yetzer HaRa! Shoot them!
What’s going to happen to this driver. Let’s find out. Slap her wrist, I’ll bet.

  • Sad but practicle

Refua Shlaima. Don’t forget to file for no-fault Insurance with in 30 days. We should all make sure to have Uninsured and Under Insurance coverage on our cars as well as an umbrella policy on our house for a few extra dollars, in case there is not enough insurance.

  • classmate

    feel better
the class is nothing without you
i miss you so much (already)
    luv,
    your classmate

  • Mother in the neighborhood

    Refuah shelema!
This corner needs a traffic light with a left turn arrow for the people turning onto Troy from Empire going East. This will not hinder emergency vehicles, but will help the situation. I remember when there was no traffic light on Carroll and Troy how horrible that was. This corner has a traffic light, but it’s *inadequate*! Especially with the Mesivta right there, it’s important to fix this!

  • london rocks

i hope this girl gets betta we are sayin tehllim down here in london!

  • Menachem

    B“H

First and foremost I hope she has or will soon have a refuah shlaymah!

Second and much less of an issue but worth mentioning… the article identifies the race of the driver .. why?

If there was an article in NY Times about a jew from Crown Heights and the article said ”THE JEW did …. “ The JEW said …..”

    What would you think?

  • Daniel

it’s so sad, i really hope she will recover fast and be healthy again, refua shelima to her and all the jewish ppl that are in H. may hashem watch all of us to be safe.
