Friday morning at around 8:40am one of the local school buses on its route picking up children and taking them to school was involved in a minor accident on E. New York Ave. and Kingston Ave. after a car passed the bus illegally.
A Honda Accord driven by a restless Black male waited for the bus to turn off its flashing red lights then passed the bus on its left crossing over the double yellow lines then attempted to make a right turn up Kingston in front of the bus, the bus driver did not see the vehicle that had illegally passed him and started to move forward and struck the car in its passenger side front and rear door, the car which was still moving forward pulled the busses bumper outwards.

Shomrim, Police and Hatzalah arrived on scene immediately and according to protocol each child that was on the bus needed to be checked for injuries, all of which refused medical attention. It is unknown if the driver of the Honda was issued any summonses.

Was this a Yeshiva bus?? Not that it matters in the end, kids are kids, but it’s important FOR ME to know. My grandkids use school buses. And why don’t we know know if the driver was ticketed? Could it be because HE WASN”T??
Course, if a Yid made an illegal turn in front of any vehicle, we’d be hauled outta there so fast our feet wouldn’t touch the ground!
I’m sick of the double standard in this neighborhood.
Moshiach needs to show up…NOW, and get us out of here to Eretz Hakodesh.

Safety Tips: A Must for Everyone!
For Children:
• Do Not approach the bus until it comes to a full, complete stop and the door / stop sign is open. (When the door is not on your side, Wait till the bus driver says it’s safe to come across the street.)
• When you get off the bus, take five giant steps away from the bus, out of the danger zone.
• Cross in front of the bus, and make sure the bus driver can always see you.
• Never Never go back for anything.
• Never bend down near or under the bus.
• Never walk behind the bus, even when the bus is not in motion.
For Parents:
• Please go over the above rules with your children.
• Assure your children that you won’t get mad if they do not go back onto the bus for anything they may have left behind.
• Instruct your children to never look for school work they may have dropped under or near the bus.
• Make sure all drawstrings on backpacks and clothing are shortened or removed to lessen the likelihood of them getting caught in bus doors, railings and / or aisles.
• Please be waiting outside Five minutes before bus’ arrival, do not wait until you hear the bus honk. Routinely using the horn to alert children that the bus has arrived is not its proper use. Honking the horn is to be used as a danger signal to warn students that a car is approaching. If you are late, the bus cannot wait for you. Your friends are also waiting at the other stops.
• According to the law, there is absolutely no eating or drinking on buses due to choking hazards (as has happened in the past). It is advisable not to send any food on the bus. If need be, please send food in a closed, sealed bag and advise your child that it should only be opened once she reaches school.
Parents Be Advised: The driver of a vehicle overtaking from either direction, even on divided or multi-lane roads, any school bus with its red lights flashing and / or stop sign arm out will be fined. Passing a stopped school bus is a 5 point violation, plus a $250.00 fine, for a first time offender!!
Remember, the drivers have nothing against you and are looking out for the safety of their passengers!!! Please work together with them to insure a safe, smooth ride to and from school!*
Wishing you a happy, healthy and safe New Year,
The Bus Drivers

DID YOU KNOW?
An estimated 50,000 motor vehicles illegally pass New York State school buses every day.
In the last 5 years 35 students were hit by motorists in New York State passing stopped school buses. Two students were killed.
THE LAW SAYS:
It is illegal – and very dangerous – to pass a stopped school bus when the large red lights located on top of the bus are flashing. Flashing lights mean the bus is picking up or discharging students.
You must stop whether you are approaching the school bus from the front or overtaking it from the rear.
You must always stop for flashing red lights, even on divided and multilane highways and on school grounds.
The first-time fine for illegally passing a school bus is a $250 fine, 5 points on your license, and/or possibly 30 days in jail.
Worse yet, the memory of hitting or killing a child may be one you carry for the rest of your life!
PENALTIES FOR PASSING A STOPPED SCHOOL BUS:
First Conviction you will get a minimum $250.00 fine and a maximum $400.00 fine, and it is punishable by up to 30 days Imprisonment.
Second Conviction (within 3 years) you will get a minimum $600.00 fine and up to $750.00 fine, and it is punishable by up to 180 days Imprisonment.
Third or Subsequent Convictions (within 3 years) you will get a minimum $750.00 and up to $1,000.00 fine, and it is punishable by Up to 180 days Imprisonment.
REMEMBER:
Yellow lights means the bus is going to stop. Slow down!
Red lights mean students are getting on or off the bus.
STOP! STOP! STOP!

Why no seat belts?
Very few injuries happen in school buses. Instead of requiring seat belts, school buses are designed and constructed differently from passenger cars. School buses protect passengers through “compartmentalization”, a design that includes:
• Seats with high backs;
• Seats filled with energy-absorbing material;
• Seats placed close together to form compartments;
• Strong seat anchorages.
Studies have shown that adding seat belts to the current seating configuration of a school bus can increase the chance of head and neck injuries. For a seat belt to be effective, it must be worn correctly, snug and on the upper thighs. Because school vehicles carry passengers from the very young to high school students, if seat belts were used, they would need to be readjusted and their use monitored. A seat belt not worn correctly may cause serious injuries.
Road Safety,
It starts with you.

Double Parking on alternate side parking days, are a courtesy.
If you are blocking traffic you will get a ticket, and rightfully so.
To many times (Bus drivers) get stuck on Union or Eastern Pkwy, because of double parking, please be considerate.
Please use common sense, just because the other guy forgot to move his car does not mean you have the right to block traffic, by parking to close (either) in front or behind.
Take a look before Parking and don’t do to others what you would not like done to youeself!

It drives me crazy when I see cars overtake a bus when the lights are flashing!
Bus 197, as far as I know is from OT. If not, it’s Lubavitcher Yeshiva.
Mother on Sterling st
Thats my son’s bus Boroch Hashem he wasn’t on the bus at the time but it’s so scary,
Also now I know why the bus never showed up on my block,
Wow people please be careful out there these are our children, our future, take the time and follow the rules.
Mother
I know the driver of the bus my kid goes on this bus everyday, we need to give our drivers more training just because they have a CDL for a bus doesn’t mean they know what they are doing, if the old driver was driving who has lots of experience I am sure it would have not happened that’s why he is driving a new nice bus from ULY. Because they trust him so why still let the drivers that we don’t trust drive our kids?? O.T. Needs to wake up and put our kid’s safety first, BH we got lucky this time.
And besides why did they not pick up the kids right away with another bus so they can move on and feel safe.
This driver does not flash his red lights all the time!!!!!
safty.
A Fellow Bus driver
To Mother:
This driver does have lots of experience.
You should feel very lucky that you have a Jewish Drive (from your own community) to begin with. (It is very hard for Jewish Schools these days to find Jewish drivers, especially from there own community).
If you feel you can do better, by all means do it.
If you actually read the story above you can see that it was not the bus drivers fault (so why are you hacking… Spreading Loshen Hora etc…)
“This driver does not flash his red lights all the time!!!!!”
According to law, if a driver feels it is safe he may turn off the lights.
There is no need to stop traffic if it is safe. In this case it made to different, the driver past anyways.
Thank g-d you are not on my Bus! (You sound like one of those mothers every driver dreads). Parents that aggravate bus drivers are another cause for accidents!
“If the old driver was driving who has lots of experience I am sure it would have not happened”
Accidents happen (to all drivers with experience or with out), that’s why it’s called an accident.
Please read the story again before you post.

To Mother:
You are ungrateful. Keep your kid off the bus, take him to school yourself. No matter how experienced a driver is he cant help it if other vehicles don’t obey the laws, and pass the bus. It doesnt mattter how long he is driving. I’ve seen my sons very experienced driver getting passed many times as he stopped in front of my house. I hope you will stop sending your son on this bus and not be a “hypocrite” and put him in a dangerous situation- yeah right- your son is gonna be back on there tomorrow because its convenient- and you are selfish enough to complain and put other peoples jobs at stake, but not selfless enough to inconvenience yourself. I know the driver, he drove my son on the lubavitcher yeshiva route before they got the new busses. He is a nice, caring, careful, and concerned driver. Don’t put your son in danger.

In general, our ”leaders“ aren’t wise. There was once a movement to leave after-accident auto wrecks alongside the highway where accidents occurred. The ”authorities” decided it was too ‘scary.’ Of course this is not the Torah way. The Torah says the opposite. Therefore they are not wise.
Where in Torah? Remember the Rashi perush about the doctor who tells a sick man not to eat cold food or sleep in a cold place because it might harm him? Along comes a second doctor, tells the man the same thing, but ads that he might die if he does this. Rashi says the second doctor is a better doctor because he put a fright into the patient.
disgusted with -mother-
This driver used to drive my son and not only was the driver very courteous and responsible, he is also a very erlich and chassidishe yungerman. Instead of being a nasty gossiper and being oiver many lavi’in at one time appreciate the fact that this person with fine midos is driving your children and not some poier. ‘the mother’ must be one of the mecharcher riv in this community.
