Driver Clings to Life After Single Car Crash
A man was left in critical condition after he crashed his car on Empire, flipped over and struck two other parked cars. EMS rushed him to the hospital where he later regained consciousness.
The crash occurred Thursday morning on Troy Avenue and Empire Boulevard. The drive of the two-door Acura was traveling west-bound on Empire when it collided with pedestrian protection ‘dumbell’, flipped over and smashed into a number of parked cars.
FDNY, EMS and Police responded and quickly went to work extricating the unconscious driver from the wreckage, and once out they rushed him to the hospital where he later regained consciousness and doing well.
The Crash Investigation Squad were called, following the cities new rules concerning serious crashes and the car remained overturned on the scene for over an hour while the investigation was being conducted.

This happened right in front of my building and I heard it happen at exactly 4:59 am. It was very unsettling. I hope he will be ok and drive safely from now on. I can’t stop thinking about it.

I changed my mind, please retract my comment because someone is bound to say something mean and hateful. I would rather give people the benefit of the doubt than make assumptions, maybe he had an epileptic fit or fell asleep.. All I know is I saw the fire dept take this bleeding unconscious person from that car and it was upsetting.

Sounds like there was more than one dumbell involved in this accident, but I’m glad to read he’s recovering.

Thank you to our FDNY for responding rapidly,, extricating the victim and rushing him to the hospital. Thank you also to our NYPD who later sent a maintenance crew to the scene to sweep up the debris from the roadway.
