A groise Na’ar!
Be Careful
Some of us may breathe a sigh of relief when we read this article and see that there were no yidden involved, right? No yidden this time! However I have witness countless yiddishe drivers disobeying the law and going alonside a bus when the flashers and stop sign are displayed. What is this?? What if it’s their own kid or neice or nephew that is attempting to get on or off the bus.I can think of two times at least that a child was hit on my block by a car disobeying the bus stop sign. You who go around a bus like this may think you are saving yourselves precious minutes right? if Chas vsholom you hit the child or even the bus you will be “wasting’ perhaps hours. And if a cop catches you you can say goodbye to those minutes that you think you have saved. Is it worth it? Please everybody, be careful and obey the school bus stop sign.

Dear Parents,
All school bus drivers have attended a mandatory bus driver’s course to update them on all new laws and regulations concerning school bus safety.
Safety Tips: A Must for Everyone!
For Children:
• Do Not approach the bus until it comes to a full, complete stop and the door / stop sign is open. (When the door is not on your side, Wait till the Bus driver says it’s safe to come across the street.)
• Once on the bus, find your seat and stay in it at all times
• Don’t do anything that will distract the driver. No arguing, No walking around in the aisles, No yelling etc.
• When you get off the bus, take five giant steps away from the bus, out of the danger zone.
• Cross in front of the bus, and make sure the bus driver can always see you.
• Never Never go back for anything.
• Never bend down near or under the bus.
• Never walk behind the bus, even when the bus is not in motion.
For Parents:
• Please go over the above rules with your children.
• Assure your children that you won’t get mad if they do not go back onto the bus for anything they may have left behind.
• Instruct your children to never look for school work they may have dropped under or near the bus.
• Make sure all drawstrings on backpacks and clothing are shortened or removed to lessen the likelihood of them getting caught in bus doors, railings and / or aisles.
• Please be waiting outside Five minutes before bus’ arrival, do not wait until you hear the bus honk. Routinely using the horn to alert children that the bus has arrived is not its proper use. Honking the horn is to be used as a danger signal to warn students that a car is approaching. If you are late, the bus cannot wait for you. Your friends are also waiting at the other stops. It is also not fair that traffic must come to a stop beacuse you are not ready. Bus drivers don’t like to be in traffic and they don’t like to be the ones causing traffic.
• According to the law, there is absolutely no eating or drinking on buses due to choking hazards (as has happened in the past). It is advisable not to send any food on the bus. If need be, please send food in a closed, sealed bag and advise your child that it should only be opened once they reach school.
• Remember to drive with caution! School buses will be on the roads and are carrying precious cargo
Parents Be Advised: The driver of a vehicle overtaking from either direction, even on divided or multi-lane roads, any school bus with its red lights flashing and / or stop sign arm out will be fined. Passing a stopped school bus is a 5 point violation, plus a $250.00 fine, for a first time offender!!
Remember, the drivers have nothing against you and are looking out for the safety of their passengers!!! Please work together with them to insure a safe, smooth ride to and from school!

Double Parking on alternate side parking days, is a courtesy.
If you are blocking traffic you will get a ticket, and rightfully so.
To many times Buses get stuck on Union or Eastern Pkwy, because of double parking, please be considerate.

It is not easy to drive a Bus, especially when we are caring the must Precious Cargo in this world, therefore,
It goes with out saying that you don’t speak in any negative way to your Bus driver. If you thank your delivery man for delivering mare fruits and vegetables, how much more so the person bringing your child to and from school every day.

As a mother of several boys who use school buses to Yeshiva I am always very grateful and admire the driver who carries out his service with care and even a friendly word or two. I appreciate his service and recognize the responsability he carries. May Hashem bless all our bus drivers to transport our children safely and happily to and from school. (I wonder if there is a special tefillas Haderech for school bus drivers)
Bystander
To correct the information given in the report:
There were 3 ambulances dispatched, only 2 responded to the accident.
There were 5 Children on the bus at the time, 1 was picket up by the child’s father, and the other 4 were transported to the hospital for precautionary reasons, 2 children in each ambulance.
However, I still give you credit for your effort and service to keep us informed.
Thank you!

parent of older kids
These incidents were more minor, remember the unfortunate accident last June in Williamsburgh, where a small girl was killed because of a van trying to pass the bus with flashing lights? (I know there were some versions to the story, but the lesson should remain)
People, these are OUR kids most of the time, wait the few minutes and don’t stress, just think about your own kids (relatives, etc)
The only excuse for the crazy driving and cutting off other cars should be a hatzoloh call or a woman in labor, otherwise, chill, sing a song, say a kapitl tehilim, you’ll see it’s not so long

Chances are that a woman in labor still has some time – a couple of hours at least before her baby is born. Drivers, keep your destination and your passengers in mind! What’s more important that you arrive at your destination a few minutes early, or arriving safely?? On videos that are shown in defensive driving and drivers’ ed courses there are captions such as “Mr. Smith slept through his alarm clock on Tuesday morning, as a result he killed a 10 year old boy.” It sounds crude and a bit extreme, but it brings across a sharp point. Every single time you get behind the wheel you are operating a powerful weapon! Don’t take someone’s life because you chose to be careless!!! Who do you think you are??? I personally know too many people, and R“L I’m sure that many of you do, who were killed or severely injured as a result of a car accident, R”L. Don’t let it continue, DRIVE SAFELY FOR YOURSELF, YOUR FAMILY, YOUR FRIENDS, YOUR NEIGHBORS AND ALL THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU!!!!!
