Pedestrian Struck Crossing Parkway Service Lane
CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — A Jewish woman was struck and injured this morning when she attempted to cross the street.
The incident occurred on the 77th Precincts side of Eastern Parkway in the service lane, a blue sedan attempted to make a left turn from Troy Avenue and did not see the pedestrian and struck her.
Hatzalah was called and treated the victim. The driver remained on the scene and with the victim until help arrived.
The woman was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

The victim’s hebrew name is Shira Malka bas Rochel Tzirel. Refuah Shalaima!

I’m sorry the driver didn’t see her..aren’t drivers supposed to LOOK before turning? The pedestrian has the right of way.

As pedestrians, one should be careful about crossing the street at the crosswalk, and try not to cross in middle of the street.
One also often sees people crossing the street looking down at their cellphones-probably not the best idea either.
And neither should drivers be looking down at their cellphones!
Drivers do have blind spots and also the sun can ‘blind’ you while driving.
Defensive Crossing of the streets is just as important as defensive driving.
The main thing right now is that the woman should have a refuah sheleimah and that we should all be extra careful, when driving or crossing the street.
