Major Accident Wreaks Havoc on Empire Boulevard

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — A Jewish man sitting in his car waiting for someone had his world suddenly rocked when his minivan was struck from behind. Eyewitnesses said that the driver that caused all the wreckage got out of his car and fled the scene.

The accident occurred on Empire Boulevard between Troy and Albany Avenues at around 11:15 Wednesday night, where a speeding Ford Crown Victoria – possibly a car service – smashed into the parked minivan, sending it careening into another parked car.

A crowd gathered after hearing the sickening sound of the impact, the driver was amazingly out of his car and on his feet. Hatzalah arrived within minutes and immediately ‘boarded and collard’, and then took him to Methodist Hospital for further care and treatment.

Police took over a half an hour to respond, and when they finally did it was only because they were flagged down by bystanders.

The driver of the sedan was described as a Black male who was wearing a blue shirt and a baseball cap. The steering column of the ford was not damaged and the keys were not in the ignition.

Was the mini-van double parked? That street has a hill. It was raining yesterday. Was he parked just after the crest where someone coming over the hill would have little chance of seeing him ’till the last minute??
(We must not put ourselves in a bad situation.)

I don’t understand all the questions.
The driver fled the scene!!!! Hit & Run!!!!
Obviously, there was a problem with the other car.
And no the car was before that hill.
I hope the driver of the minivan is okay.

    BS”D

hello, give benefit of the doubt?
we all double park in order to pick someone up, drop someone off etc.
and if was a the crest, he was in the bike lane which does not serve traffic.

amazes me how we blame the innocent without looking at all the info and without giving someone the benefit of the doubt. it is impossible from this article to have enough information to judge.
most times we really dont have enough info to judge actually.

  • OMG i heard it!!!

it was right outside my building!!!
empire is not a big hill and u could see the cars on the road from far.
the driver got out and fled!!! and left his car there!!!
the man was waiting in his car for someone and, yes, everyone does that!!!

eli, ur comment is so rude and judgemental! what do all theses car service and taxis do to pick up ppl? stay far into the road to block traffic instead? no. and would it be better if his car would be blocking traffic? no. u dont even know all the details.
the other driver was wrong. he DROVE onto the bike lane!!! and crashed into a car!!!
do u really want bad on other ppl for no reason???? that is sad.

  • Concerned!

Two wrongs are not making a right. Hit and run is wrong, double parking is dangerous and wrong. I wish everyone a speedy recovery!
