Girl Struck Crossing Eastern Parkway
Friday Morning at around 11:15am a girl crossing Eastern Parkway was struck by an SUV. The incident took place in the middle of the parkway between Kingston and Brooklyn when the SUV driven by a Jewish resident of the community all of a sudden saw the girl in front of his car and tried to stop.
The girl was struck and was thrown a short distance from the SUV. Hatzalah was called and responded immediately and treated the girl for facial scrapes and bruises which she sustained when falling which were not serious B”H. Hatzalah then transported her to a local hospital for observation.

Concerned
I hope she has an immediate refuah and that she is doing well.
Don’t mean to criticize- but what is anyone doing crossing in middle of the parkway. It is one of the most dangerous zones!!
Don’t only follow the laws of Saftey- follow your seichel…
Mush
WOW… if your concerned and don’t mean to criticize, don’t criticize… a little seichel!

We need to be polite, but not so polite that we endanger people. People need to be told bluntly why safety when crossing the street is important.

why o’ why o’ why
do people want to die
why o’ why o’ why
do people cross in the middle of the street??????
I see this day in and day out – people crossing in the middle of the street and nearly getting hit by cars – it takes about a minute more to get to the lights and cross there – is a minute worth a life??????
rivi
oh man!!!!
poor girl!!!
she should have an imediate fefuah shlaima right now!!!!!
amen!!!!
safety first
Crossing eastern parkway in the middle of the road is the SAFEST way to cross.
Just use your seichel for a moment.
Let’s take corner kingston & EP. You wait for the walk sign till you start crossing. That sign goes on when the eatsern parkway lights are on red….. and the kingston ave turning traffic goes on green. Cars come flying at ful speed and make a sharp turn onto the parkway and can’t stop even if they want to. That explains why MOST accidents take place at the corner.
Now imagine you are crossing in the middle. You wait for the light at the corner to turn red for the cars. Then you have HALF a block empty in both directions. Imagine a car comes flying in from brooklyn ave or kingston ave, they will loose most of their speed after their sharp turn and have to start accelarating again till they reach the place where you are crossing. Minimal chance to be hit.
wait for the light
its not the first time,
lesson to o.t. bochrim—just wait for the light
Anti...little Seichel
I don’t think that you are criticizing, a person should not cross Eastern Pkwy in middle of the street; too many people have been stroke there.
It’s called speaking up.
People in Ch have to learn to speak up when they see some one doing some thing wrong (instead of saying "it’s none of my business).
Like your title, you are truly being Concerned (and there is nothing wrong with that.
I hope she has an immediate refuah and that she is doing well.
Eastern Parkway resident
People should remember where to cross the streets – I feel bad for the driver of the car not the girl crossing IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PARKWAY.
question
is the girl jewish?
another concerned
the article fails to mention (puposely?) the approximate age of the girl – is she 10 or younger, a teen, a guest perhaps that looked the opposite way?
Also, her name for tehillim would help
haste makes waste
Better waste a minute of your life then your life in a minute…
BeAConsideratePedestrian
As someone who drives around Crown Heights a lot I live in constant fear of the careless pedestrians who, without thinking could G-d forbid turn an innocent driver into a muderer. If you don’t care about yourself, cross safely for the sake of other lives you may ruin with your carelessness. I know a woman that lives every day with the pain and guilt of having run over a child who ran out into the street without looking. The driver was going at the legal speed. Accidents like this have TWO victims.
agree
The one who wrote under the name "Safety first" definitly has a point there!!!
safety first
I have crossed EP many thousands of times and, based on my above explanation, i make sure to cross in the middle. If I happen to be standing near the corner I’ll walk half a block to have a safe crossing.
Again, FACT is that ALMOST ALL ACCIDENTS on EP were at the corner.
Whenever I sit in a car turning onto EP I hold my breath and pray that the driver doesn’t hit the legally crossing pedestrians. Most of the time there are some close calls. BE SAFE AND CROSS IN THE MIDDLE!!!!
PS Don’t run into the street. Wait for half the block to be empty.
During rush hour wait for all the cars to stop and cross BETWEEN them.
Pedestrians LOOK!!!
I drive on Union crossing Kingston Ave.
People constantly ignore the red hand for the pedestrians, they don’t even look…they just walk right in front of cars. Please wake up five minutes earlier and don’t be in such a rush all day
i dont use crosswalks
crossing in the middle of the parkway on the block of 770 is an age old issue in crown heights and it’s safety. years ago i once overheard one of our school bus drivers telling of his constant fear and frustration when driving Eastern parkway on the block of 770, and of the bochurims ignorance on the real danger of crossing from the dorm to 770, in the middele of the parkway.
but on the other hand, i cross the street at that location many times, and it was never a problem. many times there are no cars in sight for two blocks in both directions, and is a Mishugaas to walk to the corner, stand like a fine proper cititzen, and wait for the light. and then walk so nicely in the cross walk. just cross the street!
i’d understand that if you are walking with children etc, or the elderly, but a young healthy adult who lookes before he crosses, so long that hes not Shikor, i dont see whats the problem?
ok-even if crossing at the crosswalk is the right thing to do, that still wont stop me from crossing in the middle when i have to and the conditions are fine.
i dont use crosswalks
Oh, and I forgot to mention.
Although I don’t agree on using crosswalks, I also don’t agree on many mindless laws created for the sake of the peoples “safety”. To all of us the theme safety tells of a common value which we all hold, and its universal: “safety first”, “our priority is safety” etc etc. but where im coming from is working with the people of our governments who decide upon the protocols of what they consider to be in the category of safety. If you ever had to deal with the inspector of the health department, you know what I mean. They can make you Meshuge about the stupidest things that have nothing to do not with safety and not with common sense, and after dealing with such individuals, as so many of our institutions managers have, you begin to comprehend a different definition of the word every time you read about it, or hear about it. For me, safety means “stupid city worker giving your institution a hard time under the bs and world-buying flag of what they call ‘safety’”. These people make us put useless fire extinguishers in each room, fine the kitchens or every organization for not wearing gloves, just like the police who don’t do anything about our safety except for ticketing traffic violators, also under the excuse of maintaining safety. They should really be maintaining the flow of traffic on Canal Street. But even if crossing in the middle of a parkway is Takke the wrong thing to do, I will still not be crossing at the crosswalk. No way.
LW
I mean to critizise, what was she doing or anyone crossing in the middle of Eastern Pkway??? it is way dangerous and you have got to be insane to do it
former heightser
jaywalking is still illegal, yo, and you can get a nice ticket for it if the men in blue decide they wanna harass ya.
some tact please!
Firstly, I am so horrified on some people’s quick judjement. Secondly, the information given is nearly entirely inaccurate. I was by the sight, so for your information it was a red light, the girl was close to the crosswalk and a suv did a quick turn. "Insane" and "wanting to die" type statements are beyond inappropriate and mean. Yes, the girl was badly hurt, but B"H not worse. I am disgusted by those who are so insensitive–keep your harsh statements to yourself. Empath is what we need.
