Another Accident On Empire and Troy

Tuesday evening at around 7:30 a Jewish member of the community was heading down Empire Blvd from Schenectady Ave towards Albany Ave when a car headed in the opposite direction attempted to make a sudden left turn up Troy Ave causing a collision.

The driver who tried to pull the turn onto Albany driving a Red Minivan was struck on its side by the large SUV, driven by the yiddishe driver, causing the minivan to spin a full 360 degrees. In such cases drivers waiting to turn do not have the right of way.

More pictures in the Extended Article.

The yiddishe driver was taken by Hatzalah to Kings County Hospital where he was checked out and released soon after. B”H no one was seriously injured.

This marks the 9th serious accident at this intersection since we began covering such incidents that take place here in Crown Heights. The solution is obviously not to ticket drivers who disobey traffic laws, rather a solution may be in revisiting the way the traffic signaling is set up at the intersection. The addition of a turning signal has been the most common suggestion by resident in the area, along with red light cameras with big signs saying that the intersection is equipped with such devices in order to ‘deter’ such violations rather then a ticket just showing up in the mail.

Either way, drivers beware and take extra caution at this intersection. On the road be smart, not right!
