Bochur Struck by Car Crossing Eastern Parkway
CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — A Kvutzeh Bochur was struck and injured crossing Eastern Parkway this evening, Tuesday. The incident happened on the main roadway, about 150 feet from the Kingston crosswalk, where a car traveling in the turning lane hit the Bochur.
The driver, a black woman, did not flee the scene, and according to witnesses was yelling “he jumped into my wheels, I don’t know where he came from”.
Hatzalah was quickly called and rushed to the scene where they treated the Bochur for head, neck and back injuries. EMS responded and checked out the driver, who did not suffer any injuries.
This is the second such accident in just a week where an Israeli Bochur was hit by a car when crossing not in the crosswalk, in last week’s incident witnesses said that the Bochur was hit and was sent flying nearly 20 feet away from the car, then got up and fled the scene.

pedestrians AND drivers MUST be extra careful. The pedestrians can’t know what the car is going to do, and the drivers don’t always see the pedestrians. We all need to step up our caution
Refuah Shelamah
its about time they start wearing glow in the dark pins.
Really?
He couldn’t be bothered to walk the 150 feet to the corner? Is it going to take for someone to G-d forbid get killed before they realize that crossing in the crosswalks are the law, not a suggestion?
Crosswalks are made for crossing!!!!!!
Its about time they started using the crosswalk, that were actually created for that purpose….a minute extra of time might actually safe a life….
Refuah Krovah
If the bachur was jay-walking, it’s wise for the Rabbanim to issue a machah-warning that everyone should cross the street carefully an not jay-walk.
Achdus
I think that a lot of pedestrians DON”T cross the street by the rules, and then all this stories happens. Cross the street on a green light – you don’t have to be a big tolmud chochom to do this.
Anyways feel very bad for a bochur, hope he is alright

normally YOU ARE RIGHT TO BE EXTRA CAREFUL BUT HERE THE BOCHUR CLEARLY RAN ACROSS EASTERN PARKWAY NOT AT THE CORNER BY THE LIGHT. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THIS PLUS THE CHILLUL HASHEM IT CAUSES.
WHEN WILL THEY LEARN??
Mrs. G.
Please use the cross-walk people!
dibsim
maybe they can use some more of drizin’s $$$ and build a footbridge over easter parkway from 749 to 770
Common Sense
It’s about time they take an extra ten seconds to walk to the crosswalk and cross safely. Total chillul Hashem, makes it look like we don’t even appreciate our lives chas v’shalom
Refua Shleima
Based on this artical it seems that
1- The woman was driving (illigally) in the center BEFORE it became a turning lane.
2- The woman was speeding or not looking.
3- The bochur crossed in middle of the street.
Refua Shleima immediatly!

These Israelis probably think they have the right of way, as in Israel, in the middle of the block. In Israel they have this most crazy crosswalk in the middle of a block, between two lights, no less, where the pedestrian can just walk across and the cars are expected to slow down or stop, after they’ve already waited for the light to turn green and go – half a block before!
Bella
eastern parkway is let to move to busy and too fast in a major area of living like that it should have speed bumps
Tz
Bochurim are constantly crossing that intersection. It is an accident waiting to happen. They do not bother to to go to the crosswalk since their dorm is in the middle of the block and, aren’t bochurim always in a hurry??!!!
Refuah Shelaima to the Bochur!
Rebecca
Please obey the traffic laws especially pedestrians in NYC.
oiss vorff
the kevutsa bacuriem are lazy to cross by the lite ,,like all normal people , they think they r better smarter , and above any law and order , they follow there rulls made by there so called leaders , and maspieaim , and thats the fact jack
Helloooo
The rules in Israel are very simple. If you cross in the middle of the street and not at the corner, you get a big day ticket. So my Lubavitcher chassidim. “America iz nisht Andersh”
150 Feet from the crosswalk
Next time walk 150 feet TO the crosswalk & avoid getting hit!! I can only have rachmonus for the driver in this case.
safety first
crossing on a red or green light, crossing at in the middle of the street or where inapproriate, safety first….
idiots
WHY CAN’T THEY USE THE CROSSWALK!
Do we really want more tragedies? Get some sense. Instead of teaching these morons to scream Yechi at every given opportunity, teach them road safety.
just another bocher
maybe they should start crossing at the crosswalk even if its a enconvience its the safest
eli
he should be sent home. and made a lesson for all else.
Proof that Woman are smarter
Crossing Eastern Pkwy in the middle of the block at night, in black clothes with a black beard. The man must have a death wish.
How many women have done this? Answer 0 They are a lot smarter.
glow in the dark
maybe they should make glow in the dark yellow flags badges
Agree with #21
Whenever I drive on Eastern Parkway between Kingston and Brooklyn, I exercise extra cautionn, knowing that someone might all of a sudden appear in the middle of the block. I know exactly what the driver is saying: ‘I don’t know where he came from”. It happens to me very often.
Have a special shiur for these guys on how to cross the street.
Fence
I think they should build some kind of fence on that side of the street, so the boys will be fornced to walk the 150 feet to the crosswalk.
Concerned for Life
It’s gonna take someone getting KILLED before these bochurim realize they cannot be seen in their dark clothing when they cross the street!!! Why don’t they learn before it’s too late for someone…and not only will they ruin the lives of the people who love them, they will also ruin the life of the driver who hits them!! These bochurim are selfish and make other people afraid to drive that block on Eastern Parkway. Cops should stand there and give j-walking tickets out to each bochur who crosses out of the crosswalk…maybe money talks and that’s the only way they will learn and it will ultimately save lives!!

Better to be late Ploni than the late Ploni…
agree to #5
I agree with #5. The rabbonim should be announcing things like this, and not wasting their time with other “announcements”!
Real moseras nefesh for Torah
Ther should be:
1 Bochur crossing signs
2 SLOW BOCHURIM sign
3 # 10’s foot bridge
4 new crosswalk in middle of the block
5 sign in hebrew
6 yellow police tape
After all what is more important – Shmeras saider or the traffic laws
Can anyone confirm?
I heard a story that the Rebbe saw someone j-walking and told him to walk back to the corner and cross at the light/crosswalk.
Can anyone confirm this story?
Lets riot!
Ok, now lets gather all jews and riot….
Oh wait, that makes no sense. It was an accident…
Right…..
IDEA
They should put up a big billboard with pictures of all the past accidents..maybe that will stop ppl..
FangUnFunUnfang
It must happened because women shouldn’t be allowed to drive.
Refua sheleima to the poor bochur, despite the obnoxious sense of entitlement.
stop this hate
way too much hate going on here. very embarrassing. so much discrimination as well. (when will “they” learn etc.)
...................
i agree with everyone – KIND OF….
though if the lady saw him SHE SHOULD SLOW DOWN! im sorry to say but i see all the time things happening like this in CH if ANY DRIVER SEES SOMEONE PUT YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE IS IT THAT HARD?????????WOW…
Refuah Shleima!
You guyz don’t realize that while you give suggestions and bash this Bochur for doing whatever he did wrong, he DID get into an accident and got hurt! You should write your comments with a lil’ bit more compassion even if what you’re saying IS true..

If only it was one of the Mossrim which testified in court last year in the Shomrim Six case, that would be great!
NewJew
I find it interesting that the article immediately points out that the driver “did not flee the scene”. Since when do we ASSUME that fleeing is the natural reaction anyway?
yoyo
everyone who crosses not in the crosswalk thinks they KNOW what they are doing.
would be nice to see the police barriers down the entire block on both sides of the street and also would be nice to see pedestrians getting ticketed for crossing not in crosswalk.
better than ticketing for standing on a sidewalk and talking anyway
Fellow bochur
The only sad part about this story is that this poor ladies insurance rates are going to increase because some Imbecile decided to run through the middle of an extremely fast moving major roadway. I swerve to avoid hitting people every day on eastern parkway. There is no excuse for not waiting for the pedestrian crossing light. I guess this guy learned the hard way. Good.
Ahavas Yisroel
A person gets hurt and we bash him for not walking in the crosswalk?
He learned his lesson; please, take it easy.
New Mikva
we must build a new Mikva for the bochurim closer to 770 so thi way there will not be a need to cross eastern parkway and risk getting hit by a car
