Girl, 13, Killed in Accident in Flatbush
A 16-year-old boy driving a minivan at more than twice the speed limit crashed into a Brooklyn house Sunday, killing his 13-year-old female passenger, police said.
The driver, identified by police as Eric Hakimisefat, drove a Honda Odyssey down a quiet residential block of E. 23rd St. in Marine Park at least 63 mph, authorities said.
He lost control of the minivan, striking a parked car, a tree and a house, about 1:45 p.m., police and witnesses said.
Passenger Sarah Erdan was taken to Kings County Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
Hakimisefat and a 16-year-old male passenger were in stable condition at the same hospital, police said.
Hakimisefat was charged with criminally negligent homicide, reckless endangerment, speeding and other charges.
Sarah’s home is around the corner from the crash site, and Hakimisefat lives just a few blocks away.
The carnage shocked residents of the quiet, residential block.
“It was this huge, colossal crash,” said one neighbor, who didn’t want to give her name. “You couldn’t fathom exactly what happened.”
“It’s scary,” she added. “They go down the block so fast.”
wondering...
is he under age?
ad mosai
is the pearson jewish?
sad sad sad
at 16 in NYC the best he could have had is a Learners Permit,
unless he got himself a full license in another state.

I bet most people on this site reading this article will comment the following.
‘These teenage kids should not be getting driving license’s at this age… I think that the age for getting a driving license should be at least 19, because their just very immature.’
—
Although you think that driving at age 16 is really immature and is dangering everyone on the road, you are quite wrong. The reason for most accidents among teenagers are the lack of experience.
Even if you raise the driving age to 19, the lack of experience would cause the same amount of accidents. Also, there are lots of mature teenagers that want to drive, and by raising the age, would be like taking away that freedom.
What a smart Mayer that uses ‘Common Sense’ would do, is make a program that teenagers would have to pass to gain allot of experience, and I’m not talking about experience as in “they have to drive for a certain amount of hours”, and adults can use it too, but it’s not required for adults.
Just think to yourself… When did you get your permit? Probably when you were 16… How did you feel then? Did you want a permit really badly? So my suggestion (which is common sense) should really become the law…
Don’t blame your sin on another person. Don’t blame one teenagers accidents on other teenagers.
Guess my age! :-)

I’m sorry for the family of this crazy accident. Refuah Shelaima.

guess what ?
You are wrong.
16 is too young as the brain is still in its maturing age and underdeveloped, especially in the area that deals with responses etc. 19 is not that much better, but it is 3 years older and more mature
sorry
but on the other hand i totally agree with you about more learning, in other countries (i.e Israel & Switzerland) its a mandatory 30 lessons and much harder test. which being a driver and remembering all those scary almosts…. i can atest to the importance of good preparation.
If i remember correctly you just turned 16, did you drive yet ? it is very scary
good luck on your driving
So sad
Such trgedies should NEVER HAPPEN
Feel so bad for the 13 year old and her family
to mennezz:
A 20 year old has a much smaller probability of speeding 60 MPH like a baby.
At least according to this artical that the crash was caused by ecxesive Speeding – the age is the MAIN factor.
NUMBER 1 LESSON
DON’T GIVE YOUR CAR TO YOUR LITTLE KIDS.
crown hights
I was driving down new york ave and comming towards us towords kings county hospital we saw 2 flatbush hazalah i said it dose not look good

16 is not too young with proper instruction. CA is one of the top 3 safest stats to drive in and teenagers can get their permits at 15 1/2 and licenses at 16. They just go through serious drivers’ ed and training behind the wheel.
age: 21
My mom did not let me get a permit till I was 19, she also would not let me drive a car with out a instructor inside (with a brake pedal) NOW I TANK HER 4 BOTH
JEWISH
yes they were all jewish
in my oppinion
the main learning experience for any new driver no matter what age is to have experience, that means having close calls ect. i guarantee that after a few close calls automatically you learn to be more careful. and until you have nothing close you say look i never had anything close to an accident and think your invincible.
following number 1
actually he probably has a licence/permit but was notdriving with an adult so he is not under age to be driving
immature judgment
It has nothing to do with experience or age. It DOES have to do with an impaired (or otherwise) immature sense of judgment. You simply cannot have a mature, sound sense of judgment at 16 than you do at 26.
Sixteen year old’s take more chances, do more stupid things than someone who is older.
BUS DRIVER
NOT only teen drive fast every body drive fast feel sorry for the parents
Pritzus
What’s going on??
16 year old treated as an adult? How?
Where were the parents 10 minuted before this? If they were asked then, what would they have said? Now a big prosecution??
Senior Citizens most critical
I once had a bus driver who was in his 70s and he said that teens are not the most dangerous. We started laughing (we were teens) and asked ‘who was?’. He answered ‘senior citizens’. Because they forget rules or maybe sight etc. he said it is important that they should retake \ the driving test. (I think some states have started an across-the-board policy that one has to renew his license every ten years.
