Jewish Man Struck by a Reversing Car

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — A Lubavitcher man was struck by a reversing car on Kingston Avenue this evening. Eyewitnesses said that the man was standing in the middle of the street, and was struck by a car that was backing up.

The incident took place on Kingston between Montgomery and Crown Street, where Hatzalah members were already on scene handling another call when the accident occurred and treated the victim who suffered minor injuries, and was transported to Methodist Hospital.

  • start driving responsibly!

Do you know how many careless drivers do this? I was driving along President at about 4:45 & stopped at a red light at Albany. Across the street were about a dozen mothers & little kids waiting for a school bus. The pale blue minivan in front of me decided to turn into Albany (on the red) & REVERSE into a parking space on the corner of Albany/President.

So if you’re reading this, Mr. young Frum guy, I hope you realize YOU could have done the same thing to one of these young mothers, their kids, or any pedestrian. And next time, I hope there’s a cop to ticket you!

No offense, but kingston avenue is so busy, the city should be banning commercial vehicles from 9 to 5.

unnecessary accident. could have been avoided. HaShem yishmor.
Kingston is way too busy there too.

  • YW, a former safety patrol

We should all say tehillim for the man who was struck — a refuah sheleimah, please Hashem.

    AND:

This news story is a cautionary tale for drivers AND FOR PEDESTRIANS:

Not only should drivers watch better when backing up, but also, pedestrians should not wait IN THE STREET to cross, but rather, they should wait ON THE SIDEWALK:

    1) Crossing only at corners (what, everyone in Crown Heights is a VIP or a fireman going on an emergency call, and can’t take the minute or so to walk to the corner to cross??? Do you — Mrs. Jaywalker — want to have it on your cheshbon that a child saw you jaywalk and figured it was OK to do the same?) AND

    2) Waiting for the light to change before:
    a) THEN looking in ALL directions (i.e., there are backer-uppers on one-way streets, so look in all directions even when crossing a one-way street!), AND
    b) ONLY THEN cross the street.

Gmar chasima tova! REMEMBER: Following safety common sense is the best way to make a keili for the brocha of protection from harm, when walking on our streets and sidewalks.

  • A lawyers payday?

The CH streets are a lawyers dream. The only problem is that half the drivers don’t have insurance.

i was thinking the same thing the car traffic is too intense and

ive seen cars barrel through intersections right past police men and they do nothing

  • the man is at fuilt

why was he standing in middle of the street, that is called begging for a car to hit you

  • To 1

    Take it easy.
Somtimes when I needed to go 10 times around the block to find a parking – I did the same (backed up albany).
Mabey the minivan should have waited for his light, but if you back up at 5 MPH its almost impossible to hurt anyone.

  • SPEED BUMPS

Crown heights neets alot more speed bumps,
Especialy on the Eastern Parkway Service lanes (Bet kingston and Brooklyn).

Why do all the Public Schools get speed bumps from all sides even though there were never any accidents?

Why are the “Speed Bumps” on President Between Kingston and BROOKLYN – and not Between Kingston and ALBANY in front of 1414 where there were so many accidents and so many spaced out pedestrians???

Why do our Bochurim always get hit by cars because of a lack of speed bumps where NEEDED MOST?
So many young bochurim had their entire lives ruined because they were hit by cars.

  • Survived this too

I was run over by a car, backing up to park, in front of my house. Even though the streets are one way, I learned the hard way, the onus is on us to look both ways no matter what.

  • to # 10

    to #10

Try telling that to a mother of a squashed toddler, chas v’sholom.

Do you seriously think this is acceptable? I guess you must be the driver I described. You, sir, are an irresponsible idiot.
