Man Struck in Middle of Eastern Pkwy

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — A Jewish man was struck by a mini-van Wednesday evening as he was crossing Eastern Pkwy, between Albany and Troy Ave.

At 10:30pm Wednesday night, as people were coming to and from various Simchas around Crown Heights, a Yungerman was struck as he attempted to cross Eastern Parkway.

Apparently he attempted to cross the parkway in middle of the block, but was struck by a mini-van as he got to the middle of the roadway.

The mini-van, driven by another Jewish man pulled over and called Hatzalah.

Hatzalah responded and transported the victim to the hospital in serious but stable condition.

His current condition isn’t known.

Please keep us posted.. He should have a speedily recovery!!!!!

  • HELLOOOO!!!

Maybe it’s time people in CH learned NOT to cross the street a few meters away from the light. What is SOOOO important that you can’t take the time to cross properly?
Now this guy is not only injured because of his own stupidity, another will relive the scene for a long time to come even if he knows it’s not his fault.

  • be careful!

The pictures ARE graphic. But on the other hand, maybe they will serve as a lesson to other jay walkers. Please post his name for Tehillim.

  • concerned

if he is in critical condition – maybe put up his name for tehillim to be recited?

  • DegreesForSale

Critical condition? EMTs never assign those status levels. It’s only done by hospitals.

  • CH Resident

Wearing Black, crossing street in middle, at nighttime. Great Saftey measures.

  • scary

say what you like, but seeing these pictures… I bli neder will never cross eastern parkway in the middle again.

  • to all of the ubove

everyone up there does have a great point,

these days people have absolutely no respect for the privacy of other, the closer the sot the better they are??

websites should not be writting conditions they dont know, it tends to blow things out of proportion, worry those that are’t getting the whole story. concerned(9)brings up something very interesting, the website says he’s G-d forbid in critical condition, but can’t put the name of the bachur????

hello (2) and CH resident (11) are both right, many people are not as ccareful as they should be on the dangerous treets of ch, it is thank G-d a very busy city and no one is immmune to it. cross when u can, where ur supposed to, NOTHING is more important than our lives and safety!!!!

  • eastern parkway resident

With all the orchim coming to CH for Tishrei please stress the importance of crossing all streets correctly especially Eastern Parkway , There is a story of How the Frediker Rebbe saw a yungerman cross Eastern Parkway in the middle and got extremely upset, perhaps by sharing this story people will take this more to heart. I live on EP and I cross in the middle sometimes when I am in a rush , no more…

To #10 Critical is a status given by EMT’s look up the acronym C.U.P.S. in the NYS EMT protocol C = Critical

  • Sad but True

The pics should be up, Maybe someone will learn from this and it will be helpful to save someone else.

As far as privacy, you (or should I say I) can’t tell who it is from the pictures unless, I’ll assume, you know the person well in which case it shouldn’t be a problem. The only thing that might invade his privacy would be posting his name so for now I think CH info did everything right!

  • r s SHNEUR ZALMAN BEN CHAYA NECHAMA

when I was in the vaad I begged the police to issue summons on EP ( with approval of R. Osdaba)
They laughed at the idea saying the fine was around $3.00 for jay walking

  • Crossing the street

no crossing the streets while the light is red please wait until light changes to a green or white walking signal.

when light turns to walking signal please look both ways before crossing.

we learn this as children what has gone into people crossing at that spot how many accidence do we need to go thru for people to note that it isn’t safe to cross while cars are passing by you can not assume cars will see you and stop.

  • CROWN HEIGHTSER

770 SHOULD BE BLASTED WITH FLYERS THROUGHOUT TISHREI WARNING PEOPLE NOT TO JAY WALK. IN THIS UNFORTUNATE CASE, BEING AN AUSTRALIAN HE COULD VERY POSSIBLY HAVE BEEN LOOKING THE WRONG WAY FOR ONCOMING TRAFFIC AS THEY DRIVE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STREET.

  • Concerned Crown Heightser

Refuah Shleimah – have a speedy recovery.
To everyone else – PLEASE stop crossing in the middle of the block. As a driver – there are so many trucks and large vehicles that block visibility, that it is a major risk – not just to you, but to the unfortunate drivers that may be driving down the street at that time.

  • SO sad

This should be A lesson to everyone out there that thinks they could outrun cars in the middle of the road.

  • concerned

not only should you cross at the corner when it’s green but also when you croos make sure there are no cars turning your way even though they are ment to wait for you sometimes they don’t so that why
    1. cross at the corner
    2. make sure its green
    3. also make sure no cars turn when you cross

  • To #24

This person was not waiting for the light to change. He walked out into the street in the middle of the block, WITHOUT looking. Right into an oncoming car travelling at a slow speed.

Just a few feet away from the corner.

Why do you assume a light was involved?!

  • To #25

He has been living here for a few years so I doubt that is the case. BH he is stable now but please say tehillim.

  • YB

Ben, #10 is correct, as EMT’s classify CUPS to decide how long they can ‘stay and play’ on the scene, but that has nothing to do with labeling the patient as such. Critical for EMS would mean getting CPR, unconscious, choking, or some other life threatening situation.
Only clinicians can classify someone as stable or critical, etc.

  • Meyer Lansky

You need to take those pictures down… an extreme invasion of privacy!

Also, these idiots need to stop crossing in the middle of Eastern Parkway. I have almost hit so many people because they can’t cross at the crosswalk or wait till they have the “WALK” light.

Come on people, smarten up or feel the pain!

  • Family member

    1. If the picture will prevent others from crossing in the middle of the block, then they should remain posted.
    2. The Yungerman, father of 2, is B’H recovering well. We appreciate everyones Tehillim. It’s a real miracle that he survived and is recovering from his head injury.
    3. He may have looked the wrong way, being that he grew up in a country where they drive on the left side, and recently returned from that country.

  • thank you shmuli for update

may we hear only good news about him and all those in need-
    moshiach now!

  • change of story perhaps?!?!

perhaps the story you read is not the details to its fullest?!? don’t we all Know that the media can blow things out of proportion??? trust me, no one on the scene knew exactly what happened at the time! perhaps he was crossing by the pedestrian crossing area when a car hit him and sent him flying to the area in the middle of the block where the hatzalah was taking care of him??? bottom line… don’t jump to conclusions of blaming anyone in this whole painful situation! just keep on saying tehillim!!!!!! refuah sheleima!!!!

  • To #38

As someone having 1st-hand knowledge (knowing the driver), it definitely was NOT at the corner. The driver was driving slow in order to prepare for a turn & this guy ran out in front of him with absolutely no warning.

So before you tell people to get their facts straight, so should you…

  • confused..

WHO CARES HOW HE CROSSED THE ROAD!!!!
AS LONG AS HE HAS A REFUA SHELEIMA!!! seriously yidden..

  • To #40

    WHO CARES????!!?
HOW BOUT ALL OUR CHILDREN JAY-WALKING ALL OVER CROWN HEIGHTS??? DO WE NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR SAFETY????
NEVER MIND THE ADULTS WHO THE KIDS LEARN FROM!!!!
YOU MUST BE SOMEONE WITH NO KIDS OR DON’T CARE ABOUT TEACHING THEM TO BE SAFE!!!

    SHAME ON YOU!!!!

  • family member FF

BH He is getting better and is on the road to recovery. He still needs a refuah shelima and our tefilos
To Post #33 if you are a good friend of the family you would know that he is a father of 1

  • to #41

OF COURSE WE CARE ABOUT SAFETY..
but you think arguing about how he crossed the road, or which side of the road he crossed,or justefying his wrongdoing is going to help the situation??

  • Hello #43

Maybe YOUR parents taught you safety, but apparently MANY CHers didn’t have such caring parents.

And YES, maybe if they hear it enough, it will get drummed into their heads and they’ll think twice before crossing wrong.
