Elderly Pedestrian Struck on Empire

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — It sounded like two cars collided, when in fact it was a person that was struck and sent flying down Empire this afternoon. The incident took place in front of 675 Empire Boulevard where an elderly Jewish man was crossing, and was struck by a passing SUV.

The force of the impact sent the man flying through the air, and rolling down the road for over 40 feet, where he came to a rest completely motionless. The driver got out of his car, visibly distraught, and began crying “oh my g-d, I killed him!” The victim took a few minutes and began moving.

Hatzalah and FDNY arrived on scene and began treating the victim, who became hostile and wanted to be released saying he wasn’t hurt, while he was bleeding from his head and had many scrapes and bruises all over his body.

He finally agreed to be transported to a local hospital to get checked out. He miraculously did not suffer any serious injuries.

oh my! so many incidents this week! drivers please drive cautiously. and pedestrians: do me a favor- dont cross when you have a red light- ppl carelessly step out into the street when cars that have the right of way are mid- motion and its really scary. i try to drive carefully and im not interested in hitting anyone

Warning That spot is a blind spot its a hill and a turning lane the cars can’t see u always safer to cross at the crosswalk

I hate to sound like a broken record, but why can’t we have ZEBRA CROSSINGS like they do in the UK? ROUNDABOUTS would be nice too! Maybe if people weren’t so frustrated by having to sit at stop lights for cycles of 5 to 10 minutes at each intersection, then perhaps they’d be a little more calm and focused on the road. I’m just saying….

May HaShem speed healing to this elderly man and grant him a HUGE settlement from the driver’s insurance company.

  • I feel

I feel bad for all involved. But you got to make sure not to cross in the middle of the street. Coming out between two parked cars, is hard for the driver to detect.

  • A crazy trend...

It seems that there’s some type of accident trend in Crown Heights. More accidents, then less accidents, then more and so on…

    Refuah Sheleima… I hope all accident’s stops now…

  • SO SAD

THE CITY IS CRAZY, FIRST THEY SPEND TONS OF OUR HARD EARNED MONEY TO MAKE THE SIDEWALKS ON EMPIRE WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO BE BETTER FOR PEOPLE TO CROSS, AND THEN WHAT HAPPENS ? THIS ELDERLY YID GETS HIT BY THE SUV. THIS IS SO SAD, WHY DID THEY MAKE THOSE SIDEWALKS IF YOU SEE FOR YOURSELF THAT IT DID NOT HELP!!!

when a fellow yid becomes the victim of an accident it is certainly a communal tragedy. it is inspiring to see the concern of the community but the biggest tragedy is when the victim is further victimized by that very community. please don’t humiliate the poor man by showing him in such a desperately helpless state. although it is to the website’s credit that his face is blurred, sadly he still clearly identifiable to fellow crownhightsers. please only post what you would like to be posted about you.
