Motorcycle Strikes Pedestrian Erev Shabbos

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — A Lubavitcher yungerman was struck by a motorcycle Erev Shabbos and suffered very serious injuries. The accident took place at the intersection of Union Street and Schenectady Avenue.

According to bystanders the pedestrian began crossing the street when the motorcycle, which was coming down Schenectady, struck him in the crosswalk, sending the bike and the pedestrian flying.

The pedestrian suffered serious injuries to his head and leg, and was transported to Kings County Hospital in critical by stable condition, while the biker suffered scrapes and bruises, and was treated at the scene.

    I hope the yungerman makes a full recovery but just curious if he was distracted from the street while talking on a cell at the time he crossed.

    I am not sure why the police do not enforce speeding on avenues like albany and schenectady. Yet the police are all over when there is illegally parked cars, that cause much damage (I can not get over all the articles that talk about accidents by illegally parked cars).

    As a former motorcyclist myself, I can say that it is really important for pedestrians not to cross against the light, especially without carefully looking to see who’s coming.

    Motorcycle!? That’s not a motorcycle! That’s a crotch rocket! I’ll wager that the driver was speeding…. Those things belong on a race track – not a city street.

    whats wrong with what number 2 wrote? just because its a frum guy all of a sudden he cant be the bad guy? it wasnt possible that he didnt look before he crossed? oh – since it was a gentile who hit him it MUST be HIS fault and not the bochurs!!! i was in crown heights not to long ago and the amount of people who dart acroos the street (jews and non jews alike) is rediculous! ok people might drive a bit to fast but if your in new york for more than a day you should be expecting that and check to see if any vehicles are coming BEFORE you enter the roadway!! any three year old kid knows that!!
