Motorcycle Collides with Parked Cars

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — A daredevil motorcyclist speeding and disregarding traffic laws collided with a parked car, then ricochet off a moving car and went flying in the air, landing over 30 feet from his motorcycle.

The incident took place on Empire Boulevard near New York Avenue, where the motorcycle attempted to pass a number of cars in the bicycle lane, and a person in a parked car, not seeing or expecting the motorcycle, opened his door and they collided.

The incident turned bizarre when cops saw the cyclist flying through the air and a bus driving away, and suspected it was the bus who struck the motorcycle and was fleeing the scene. Police managed to stop the bus on Kingston and Montgomery, using 6 police cars.

Initially the driver of the motorcycle was listed in critical condition, so police ordered the Accident Investigation Squad to investigate the accident. A short while later the driver stabilized and they were no longer needed.

Police released the bus and did not file any charges against the bus driver.

BH the driver is ok – but it was his fault — weather its a motor-cycle or bicycle — they all try to beat traffic.

these bike lanes are very hazardous as the bikers feel they are in the right even when i car is try to turn

  • No Biker

These bikers go speeding down the Parkway every day, doing wheelies at 60-70mph and the police don’t bother. Surely those on Nostrand could alert those on Kingston to nab them.

Not just cyclist or motorbike-riders try to beat traffic, every one does. Cars, trucks and even pedestrians. All of us gotta be a bit more safe and courteous to one an other, and rather save a life than a minute.

These bike lanes are very hazardous, but for a whole different reason…bikers can not feel safe in a bike line, so many obstacles in the way. ie: opening doors, turning cars, parked cars and the occasional pot-hole…

And btw, turning cars need to give right of way to bikes even when not in a bike lane.

I live on the West Coast and am Jewish. I applaude your decision to publish photos and information on traffci accidents in Crown Heights, on occassion. Ive been driving
for many years and it never hurts to be reminded of the traffic danger out there and our obligation as drivers, pedestrians – to follow the rules.

If you care about your life – NEVER ride your bike on the street

  • Turning cars

Turning cars may not see a bike that is already a few feet into the road.

motor cycles should be treated just like cars and bycicle lanes should be onthe sidewalk
