Watermelon Looting Following Parkway Accident

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A van and a car collided as they were turning on to Eastern Parkway, the van then slammed into a light pole and trapping the driver inside. The force of the impact threw open one of the van doors, and a stockpile of watermelons spilled onto the street.

The incident took place at around 11:15am at the intersection of Eastern Parkway and Nostrand Avenue, and according to eye witnesses both vehicles were turning from Nostrand on to the parkway when one of the vans tires popped and he slammed into the car, spinning it around a few times, then slamming into the pole.

Firefighters worked for nearly 10 minutes to remove the driver of the van, who was pinned, once removed EMS rushed him to a local hospital.

In the chaos of the crash, and before emergency services arrived, a number of people approached the van and looted its contests, walking away with watermelons in their hands.

Traffic on Eastern Parkway was backed for up until the cars were removed from the intersection.

    this story is reported incorrectly. I was behind the green sedan on the left lane. the cars were going down eastern parkway and was not turning from nostrand ave. The green sedan was in the middle lane..the van was on the right. The green sedan sideswipped the van just before passing Nostrand ave causing the van to jump on the curb and hit the pole.

    As for this news story, well, you’re so busy looking for this (of all things!) to be a chillul Hashem (which is what you mean with your sarcastic statement that it’s a real “kiddush Hashem”).

    But there IS such a thing as something that makes African-Americans “look bad.” And this incident is it. I daresay you will never ever come up withopen, in your face suffering of one of their own, to gleefully steal from that suffering Yid.

    It doesn’t mean that the Jews who point it out are so horrific as to be labeled a “chillul Hashem”. And I’m certain that no Jew in Crown Heights truly thinks that EVERY SINGLE African-American is a subject for derision!!! Sometimes “the shoe fits,” that’s all.

    Next time you get invited to someone’s home for Shabbos, etc., it is your loss if you reject the offer.

    But you can never succeed at completely rejecting who you truly are, which is a Jew.

    It would have been wasteful if they hadn’t taken the watermelons. Obviously the injured person was in no condition to sell them The van was in no condition for someone else to sell them. City probably came and cleaned up everything and would have had sanitation take the watermelons.
