Wild Accident Leaves Police Car On Its Roof
At around 12:30 last night the intersection of Kingston Ave and Carroll St exploded with the sound of cars colliding, bringing many residents out to see what had happened which to their astonishment was a blue NYPD vehicle on its roof, a Acura sedan on the sidewalk facing the wrong direction on Kingston and a minivan parked up on the sidewalk on Carroll.
According to the driver of the Acura, a black male who was driving with a female passenger, he was coming up Kingston Ave. and had the green lights all the way up, when crossing the intersection of Carroll and Kingston he all of a sudden saw the Police Vehicle speeding with only its headlights flashing with no sirens and couldn’t stop in time, striking the passenger side of the car sending it spinning out of control and causing it to roll over where it came to rest in the rear of a parked minivan, which is owned by a Jewish member of Anash, forcing the minivan up unto the side walk.
The 2 Officers of the Auxiliary division of the NYPD were both treated by FDNY EMS and were transported to Kings County Hospital, one was discharged later in the night and the other was held overnight pending results of a few tests to make sure he is ok. The occupants of the Acura refused medical attention but were visibly shaken. B”H there was no pedestrians in that area of the sidewalk at the time of the accident.
ESU put up a display for all the people that had gathered in curiosity to see what had happened, first pushing the flipped police car then rolling it back over, and removing the minivan from the sidewalk.
This brings the total amount of accidents this week alone so far to 4, we implore all drive to take extra and extreme caution when driving, it’s the summer more kids are out playing, balls roll unto the street with kids chasing them, give the courtesy and be a little more defensive when driving, and remember to wear your seatbelts and not talk on your phone.

I live on the corner of Carroll and Kingston. I didnt see anything, but I heard a car speeding down the road letting off a siren here or there, and suddenly I heard a few loud BOOM!! sounds.
I thought someone had been shot, or that a car accident occured. Immediately, a bunch of police cars came speeding toward the accident. I didnt go out, my husband did, but the noise woke my child, who was very frightened.

Somebody Somewhat Legal
NYC government covers financial damage for work done by employees or persons authorized by the city if it is done within their official responsibilites. NYC may not cover expenses if the work was outside of the line of duty. This question cannot be answered directly because it will be a matter between the NYPD, NYC Corporation Counsel, and the private auto driver(s).
BORUCH HOFFINGER
IF THE OFFICER WAS DRINKING THEY’LL PROBABLY COVER IT UP. THERE OCCASSIONS MENTIONED IN THE MEDIA ABOUT A LOWER EAST SIDE DISPUTE WITH HATZALAH AND A BLACK GIRL PHOTOGRAPHING THE ACCIDENT SCENE (IN BRONX?) – SISTER OF VICTIM STRUCK BY POLICE CAR-WHO WAS FORBIDDEN FROM TAKING PHOTOS. I THINK SHE WAS ARRESTED.

you see! when a jew gets hurt, there are maybe 1 or 2 cops there. but when a police man and non jew gets hurt, than you cant exactly count how many!

Concerned!
A very sincere Thank You as always to our wonderful EMS Volunteers and our fabulous FDNY Firemen who respond quickly to assist those in need at emergency scenes!
another resident up late
I was standing at that intesection a few minutes ealier, and saw a police car zooming past with no siren. As far as I know if the lights are on and police take reds, they must also have sirens on- but I am no cop- and don’t want to be. Safe driving- and also walking- beware of flying cars!
Chanina
Dear Auxiliary Cop from the 71:
SInce when are auxiliaries allowed to answer calls for police in need of assistance, presumably a 10-13? They are only there to be eyes and ears for the police, and not to do police actions. Were the 71 commanders asking them on a special APO job?
this is crazy
this is crazy at first there’s a accident with one car than
another car than
another car than
another car and a taxi
and now there is a accident with a police
Better safe than sorry
Webby, thanks for reminding us how important safety laws are. There are plenty of times when drivers don’t heed the "pedestrian’s right of way" law when turning a corner. Folks, it’s your own people and children you are putting in danger. I’m a driver and I’m so careful when turning to make sure there are no little kids walking accross the street. Especially in a neighborhood where people feel it’s "normal" (NOT) to let their six year old kids cross streets by themselves – sometimes walking their younger siblings. Remember that keeping your children safe is as big a mizvah as other laws that people like to preach in this community.
A Bochur
there were Farbreingens happening around the corner so bochrim ran to see the fun

DEFENSIVE DRIVING - ACCELERATE
if a car is coming at you – accelerate and get out of the way! most people’s first response is to brake. in most cases flooring it will get you out of harm’s way while braking makes you a bullseye hit.
ich to Curious
I think he is doing In Line Stabilisation
carroll streeter
i agree with ribeka. it took less than 30 seconds for the police to come, get the streets closed off and do what they had to to help the injured cops. i feel bad for the owner of the vehicle which ended up on the sidewalk but i must say, the police car did a really neat job. the car he hit, pushed the parked car so carefully in between the fire hydrant and the garden. nothing got damaged. it almost looked like someone was trying to drive carefully down the sidewalk, and tried to squeeze in between the hydrant and the garden, but couldnt fit.
the action was great. i am glad there is street cleaning tomorrow on the side of the street which had the accident. there is glass all over the place.
Montreal-r
WOW i come to ny every now and then, and this is like something els, i mean should the police car at liest had the siron on? dono! maybe he thot that no one els will be driving so late at night! or he might have woken up the block if the siron was on. But anyways all you New Yorkers drive safly, and webby only take Simchadi’ka PIX alright great web site here. Moshiach h’eNOW!!!

mY question is, if there already had to be an accident with two NYPD shlepers flippin out, over and under, why couldent it be those 2 clowns that drive all around tghe community giving out those deadly tickets. "Sof ganav l’tlyah"
is what I was tought.
Kan Tzivah...
Techie…. I saw you taking all those pictures that night with webby… Yasher Koach… great views!
someone who was there
it’s amazing how within 20 seconds after the accident both police were out of the car. it was cool to see the airbags (i never saw one open and here i saw 4). ther were about 40-50 police and firemen at the scene right away but when it’s not a police that’s hurt their there after 10 minutes. the car parked on the sidewalk was right in front of my house blocking the path. be cautios! stay alert!
disgruntled
yea right st. cleaning. i had to call 311 to get them 2 clean up the mess, and even aftr it was all cleande on the street, there is still tons of little peices of broken glass on the sidewalk.
saw it all
i was inmy housewhen i heard the crash. i came out 20 sec. loater and the 2nd officer was getting out of the car. he was limping and looked like he was in alot of pain. he practically fell onto a car acroos the street. i watched it all from my porch and took pics from my garden. the police coulndnt say anything even though i was a foot away from the car on the sidewalk bec. i was behind the yellow tape.
jane
very nice pictures
Crownheightser
To all those of you who constantly post here and elsewhere how you can stand Crown Heights:
Dear brethren and sisternhood,
Crown heights is a beautiful open community. The shchuna is blessed taht here it is where the prvious Rebbe decided to settle. His sons in law, the Rebbe and the Rashag, both had no rerason to leave nor abandon this community, even when thousands of fellow Jews did while the community gloomed with our new unfriendly and hostile neighbors. If one was not leaving for Shlichus purposes (i.e to plant more Crown Heights style communities elsewhere), seldom were they encouraged by the Rebbe to leave.
On the material side, within New York City, there aren’t really many better communities to reside in. Whatever you’ve got elsewhere, you have it here too, for the bad and for the good; the same cops, the same grocery and property prices, the same Yeshivas and Shtiebels… Most importantly, whetehre your ealize it or not, most people in this community who are unfortunately strugling in any manner are being assisted by fellow benevolent community members. members of Anash who don’t necessarily care for the fame that others should know and acknowledge them of the kind acts that they do in a discreet manner.
In short, this communioty isn’t as bad as some try to make it out to be. So, instead of almenting at how bad it is: Either don’t come here. After all, it’s a horrible palce for your standards. If tyou do decide to invade, then please keep your nasty comments about our community to yourself please.
mushky G.
it was on my block and i slepet through it the whole night and my home is 3 homes away thank god no one was killed from my block or from the krash
The dude from pic #6
To all those who are concerned. If yall are talkin about da pic with da Jew and da officer, its called “Stabilisation”! I was holding the officers head and spine in one line to prevent any damage, if there was to the neck and spine. that’s whats done and lay off me thanks.
glenn
thank god the auxiliarys are ok. they help new york city, in many ways.
OUCH
I was once hit by a car and know what it feels like to be hurt. i was in a full leg cast for 6 months. everybody, you hear it over and over, BE CAREFUL. but it never becomes real until it happens to you. you can have the right of way, (which i did) you can be 100 percent correct, sue them, but this wont help if you are dead chas v’shaliom. im not saying it is any1s fault here, but for your own good, BE CAREFUL.
ESU#7
NYPD auxiliary police can respond to all incidents for support/traffic control/medical assistance. You never know when you may need them.
APSU 61 PCT
They just got a new auxiliary car are they going to crash that one 2 cause they like playing bumper cars.
APSU 94
I heard the 77th precict auxiliaries got a nice ride for a police car.
Matty X. Apo
NYPD Auxiliaries are not permitted to "respond" to any type of calls but that does not mean that they cannot change directions to where an event is occurring…especially an "officer down" call.
There were no sirens since the NYPD, in all its wisdom, started disconnecting sirens from all non-police vehicles including Auxiliary, TLC, Traffic, etc. Without the proper equipment to respond to this type of job (lights and sirens), they should not have blowing lights at high speed. Unfortunately, the NYPD will probably determine that their actions were not within departmental guidelines and these two APO’s are going to get shafted.
Eric
Matty X is correct. The NYPD has decided to remove the sirens out of all police vehicles that dont belong to regular officers. This is why the accident happened. It was not the A/PO’s fault.
Transit Copper
hey Matty, Just be advised “TLC” is a separate city entity – meaning the NYPD has no control over it. The city itself has control over it, not the NYPD. The story is they got their red lights/sirens taken away because they pulled over a NON-TLC affiliated vehicle and the driver was a BIG person in this city – THUS, no more light, sirens, or unmarked vehicles.
NYPD Auxiliary Police Officers may respond to calls of assistance, accidents, medical emergencies, crowd conditions, school conditions, but are mainly confined to non-hazardous/non-enforcement duties. However, a time may arise where they may have to enforce the law or be involved in a somewhat hazardous duty. Keep in mind they have Police uniforms in big-ol’ NYC… Something is bound to happen. NYPD Auxiliary Cops assist the regular police and are in fact public safety officers. Some NYPD Aux. Police vehicles have sirens and some don’t. Some are authorized to partake in certain conditions. Some are not. In the end, NYPD Auxiliary Police Officers assist the regular police and the community. They are liasons between the police and the community.
