Accident Injures Chabad Girls and Shomrim Volunteer

QUEENS, NY [CHI] — A group of girls traveling home in a ‘Chabad Car’ lost one of their wheels as they pulled off the Belt Parkway stranding them for nearly two hours on the side of the busy roadway. One girl called Shomrim who responded with one volunteer, only making matter worse when his car was struck by a passing car.

The incident took place on North Conduit Boulevard near 88th Street at around 6:30pm, the driver of the Chabad car said she felt a weird shaking, when all of a sudden sparks were flying from the back of the car, and the wheel came of and stuck a house over 500 feet away.

After waiting for help for nearly two hours one of the girls called Crown Heights Shomrim, who despite being so far out of their normal response area, responded.

The Shomrim volunteer parked behind the disabled car and activated his emergency hazard lights, and offered the stranded motorists to sit in his car while he called a AAA tow truck.

While they were waiting a small sedan rear ended the Shomrim volunteer’s car at high speed, forcing them into the disabled car, and causing injuries.

Additional Shomrim volunteers and Crown Heights Hatzalah responded to the scene and transported two of the girls to Jamaica Hospital in Queens, while the volunteer checked himself into a hospital later after complaining of sever headaches and back pains.

The driver of the sedan, a Black man, told our reporter that he did not see the disabled car, and apologized profusely for the accident. He did not sustain any injuries “but I know I will feel it in the morning” he said.

Shomrim arranged for the cars and the girls be transported back to Crown Heights, and Thank g-d there were no serious injuries.

    Go Shomrim!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank Gd they were there to help!

  • Thank god nothing major!

yet another “chabad house” car thats had an accident!!
how many of these need to happen b4 they realize the danger they are putting the ppl that work for them in by giving them cars that are not in good condition all just to save a few bucks, i undestand money is not easy to come by but whats more imprtant??? someones life or a few dollars!!
make sure the cars you give ppl to use are fully capable and inspected that includes the brakes and tires!

  • hachochma

reply to thank g-d nothing major.

thanks for stating the obvious. However it would be more helpful if you offered a car or at least have a suggestion of how chabad houses can maintain cars with little or no expense. but until then chabad houses have a choice to either call off their activities or make do with what they have.

  • What-s the Point

Not sure why it’s important to say the driver of the other car was a “black man.”

  • B H!!!

Shomrim were incredible! As a friend of the girls, I was so greatful for their help! The girls’car just come back from the mechanic (not in CH) 3 days ago. He had supposedly just replaced that wheel…so the mechanic is more at fault here than the Shluchim…. But B”H no major injuries!

  • To Hachochma

The Chabad Houses should have their Chabad vehicles inspected at the same location and as often as they do their family car – they don’t need assistance on how to get that done, they need the will.

  • Yossi

Yeah these abusive shluchim treat their Chabad workers with soooo much respect.

  • claim damages

This is a case of gross negligence on the mechanic’s part, if he indeed replaced that wheel 3 days prior.

Claims for all damages should be made against the mechanic’s insurance.

  • resident

i know the shomrim member and he is one of the most dedicated individuals that we have in CH! over ten years of services! may you have a reufah shlaimah and many more healthy years.

  • ERRR.... Pet peeve

One of my major pet peeves, old barely useable Chabad cars that put the lives of the girls that work for shluchim into danger constantly…
Ok not saying that in this particular car such was the case (if indeed it was the mechanics fault) But in general Shluchim need to know that they cant give crappy junk cars to their girls who: number one) dont know how to deal with all the issues and broken parts- they are girls! and number 2) if something does happen and they are stranded somewhere they are in one of the most vulnerable categories of people you can get, young unmarried girls!
EERRRRR……….Bochurim maybe (Huge maybe) you can give them junk cars but not girls!
Would those shluchim let their own daughters drive them?
I personally worked for a shliach that had two good working cars for his family and a clunker which he gave me. Well about a month into my year there ,the brakes failed and I got into a huge accident which B”H noone was seriously injured. They towed the car and said they would have it fixed. I handed the shliach my car key and said thank you very much but i refuse to get into that car ever again. If you want me going places I’ll walk and if that doesn’t work for you (he needed me to buy supplies etc..) then TOO BAD! Well needless to say he got me another car within the week!
Shluchim CAN come up with it if they are forced to.

  • Don-t blame the Shliach

Are you sure that is a “Chabad car”? That is an Infinity, a very expensive car. The first picture (the blue car with front end damage) is the striking car belonging to the non jew. Don’t jump to blame the Chabad House or the Shliach. I have seen cases where a person gets an oil change and the company also rotates the tires and they forget to tighten the nuts on one of the tires. This will cause the tire to come off some time later. This would not be the fault of the driver or the Shliach.
Lets give the benefit of the doubt as the Torah tells us to.

  • CHABAD HOUSE SHLUCHIM

As the grandmother of several girls who worked for Chabad shluchim. I can tell you for a fact, bad cars are not the only faulty things they give the girls who come with mesiras nefesh to assist them. They also give them (in many cases) disgusting living conditions and then take total advantage of them. You’d think they were paying them above top dollar for what they demand in return. In many cases the girls are turned off from shlichus for life because of it.

  • Dangerous Curves

Be careful around dangerous curves. They cause accidents. No pun intended.

  • mother

shomrim u guys r really the best and always there for all of us thank u

  • Shomrim we love you!!!

To the evil people whom tried to destroy Shomrim:

Can I call you to respond if g-d forbid I get in trouble, will you come to my rescue or you trying destroying Shomrim has nothing to do with me/helping people?

    The funniest thing:
Purim Sunday on President between Albany and Kingston, a Shomrim Volunteer dressed in a orange prison uniform, with Shomrim batches and Shomrim Six written on the from, was helping a lady dig her car out of the snow.

Baroch Hashem, they can laugh about it now.
We the residents of Crown Heights have the responsibility to make sure those who orchestrated that viscous Mesira/Blood libel will pray the price. We must make sure such a thing does not happen again. The Mesira that took place can happen to anyone so easily.
It’s really sad that doing good in this community makes you a victim of Mesira. This must stop.

The volunteer that went out of his way to help these girls was one of the Shomrim Six that stood trial only a few short weeks ago.

  • to pet peeve

I am disgusted by the comments against shluchim, why would anyone want to give a bochur / girl a expensive car just to be driven without any care or consideration. We have all seen youngsters and the way they treat cars.
Yes, the cars have to be safe, but more than that???.
Maybe we were all safer when you walked.

  • upset

Were the police ever called? If yes, they should be held responsible for letting this scene get so out of hand, 2 hours?????????????

    Absurd.

Sounds like a 3rd world country.

  • shliach

I think that one of the key points is that many times the shluchim are giving the girls/boys what they would never let their children drive.

Dangerous and hypocrytical activity considering the amount of tradegies that our community has witnessed recently. Please shluchim make sure that before you give a worker your car you would sleep at night if your son/dfaughter was driving it.

and girls/boys dont get in the car that isnt properly registered, insured and taken care of. In the end it is you who has to be responsible for your safety.

  • Me myself and I

some of you people are so very foolish. I know that not all can read and understand, what they read. but look at the picture…………. the car involved was a somewhat “new” Infinity!…. Do you people have the same problem with pictures????
Of all the comments here only one person got it understood it.
perhaps it would be better to keep quiet if you can’t understand what you read/see. to start blaming this org. or that org. or how some shluchim might or might not treat girls has nothing to do with this. If you have a problem understanding this story With GOOD pictures in it, then perhaps your comments about what shluchim do or don’t do is somewhat suspect.
And NO I am not an shluch, just someone that can read and understand what I read.
