Accident on Eastern Pkwy and Albany Ave
Friday afternoon at approximately 2:20pm, an SUV which was heading west on Eastern Pkwy made a legal left turn onto Albany Ave. in the face of oncoming traffic. The SUV was hit by a sedan heading east on Eastern Pkwy who had a green light and the right-of-way. The driver of the sedan slammed the brakes and skidded approximately 30 feet before colliding with the SUV in the intersection. The SUV’s tail then spun around from the impact, knocking over a cyclist who was crossing Albany in the bike lane, and running over the bicycle.
A bystander immediately called 911 and reported the accident, requesting for an ambulance, and another motorist stopped by to help out the injured party.
The cyclist who jumped at the impact, pushed himself off of the SUV, and got away uninjured. The cyclist after checking that everyone was alive, retrieved his bike from under the SUV, saw that it was also undamaged, and he left the scene
The SUV was hit in the rear wheel, breaking the axle, although amazingly there was no visible body damage aside for a scratched hubcap. The driver of the SUV was uninjured. The sedans’ entire front right side was smashed, the driver of which sustained a minor head injury, and was transported by FDNY to the hospital.
B“H no one else was injured, none of the parties were Jewish, and the injuries were not severe.
Please take heed and make safe turns, especially when you could just wait for the turn signal, and not have any problems. Don’t wait for something to C”V happen to you or a loved one before you learn to be more cautious on the road!
