Police Involved in an Accident on Eastern Parkway
CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A police cruiser with an officer and a sergeant on board was involved in a collision as they drove through the intersection of Eastern Parkway and Brooklyn Avenue. The officers were assigned to Transit Division 32 which are the officers that patrol the subway lines and platforms.
The incident took place at around 10:00pm, and according to multiple eyewitnesses the cop car has its flashing emergency lights on and its siren blaring when they attempted to go through a red light from the right lanes, but a car coming down Brooklyn apparently did not see them and collided in a ‘t-bone’ fashion, pinning the sergeant in the car, and injuries all three drivers and passengers.
Among the very first responders was Shomrim, a number of which witnessed the crash themselves, and lent their assistance by stabilizing the female driver and assisting EMS with loading her on to an ambulance. Other members gave a hand with the entrapped officer.
All the injured were transported to local hospitals in stable condition with moderate injuries.
This accident marks the third one in three days, in this intersection.
Keeping us safe
Great job Shomrim!

OMG
so it looks like the whole 71st precinct was there
jerome
its the perfect setup
crashing into a police car takes some big cohneys and cost about $1000
then your partner breaks into a few houses and stores with plenty of time to empty them bec all the cops are at the seen of the crash
awacs
I’m waiting to see Simonetti’s thank you letter to Shomrim for their assistance. I’m sure it’ll be there any day now …

does anyone know if they were on their way to a real emergency? they are only supposed to use lights & sirens in an emergency
2770
Interesting that you mention they helped “The Female Driver”
I Understand you help ladies 1st. but to mention it as if the only reason they helped was b/c it was a female ???
OKkkay
Good press may come in handy….
chymnd
yea the guy had his lights and sirens on… but wasnt visble from the sidestreet because he was in the inner lane of EP. the lady just kinda drove into the cop….was standing there when it happened.. these pictures make it look like so much more.
the ball bounces all ways
these cops drive like animals….
tehillim?
to 2770 – who cares? the point is they helped her, and due to good journalism, the author of the article informed us in one word that the driver was a woman, which is purely factual.
in any case, i noticed that the article failed to mention if the woman is jewish, probably because if it did say jewish or black or whatever, there would be a slew of negative comments, like the one above who had nothing else to pick on but the female part.
my question is – is the woman ok? are the officers ok? what’s their condition? and like someone else commented above – were they really on their way to a real emergency?

Was the show that interesting????
Concerned!
It looked like mass confusion. Why wasn’t FDNY immediately sent? The Firemen have the jaws of life on all of their hook and ladder vehicles and they handle these types of emergencies many times everyday. I understand that one of their own was injured, but the police still need to protect us from crimes that happen constantly. If all the police come to the accident then no one is doing the policemen’s job.
the driver is still in the wrong!!
though the driver didn’t see the car, she definitely should have HEARD the siren (unless she was on her cell, which is also a problem). It’s so sad that NYC drivers do not respect the sounds of the siren and srop/pull over asap when they hear the sirens. this is not the first time in crown heights that there was an accident because a driver of a car thought they can “beat the siren” and cross the intersection before the emergency vechile gets there. Just the other day, I saw an emergency vechile with it’s lights blaring zooming down the street, and some smart aleck guy thought he’d try to run across the street before the emergency vechile would pass him by.
sholom
poor woman will probably have to pay a lot more since it was a police call
i guess the whole police station comes if it is one of their guys but no one else
Mack Attack
actually for everyones information when a large incident such as this happens they call a level 1 mobilization, they bring in extra police officers so that they can still handle 911 calls and at the same time handle the larger emergency. Since when did everyone here become an authority on how the police operate? The cops done tell you how to sell things and do whatever it is you do, so dont tell them how to do things.
As you can obvioulsy see there was alot of plainclothes officers there, they arent assigned 911 calls.
Shomrim looks like they were very helpful at this scene, why do you have to come on here and hijack a good publicity article and turn it into something you know nothing about,
When you assume things you make a moron out of yourselves like some of you on this thread have done.
i was there.
1st off, the rmp involved in the accident was a transit bureau car, 2nd, the sgt in the car called for help, didnt state why, so, being that eastern parkway is the border for the 71 / 77 pcts, youve got 2 pct’s going to the job, along with transit and citywide units. any other ?’s ???????????
