CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A Lubavitcher woman was struck by a pickup truck turning from Troy Avenue on to Empire Boulevard. The incident took place at around 1:30 Sunday afternoon.

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A Lubavitcher woman was struck by a pickup truck turning from Troy Avenue on to Empire Boulevard. The incident took place at around 1:30 Sunday afternoon.

Hatzalah was called and treated the woman for her injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

According to eyewitnesses the woman was crossing in the crosswalk when the truck made a left turn from Troy onto Empire and struck her. Both had the green light.

This marks the 4th serious accident since the implementation of the new traffic regulations at the intersection.

    “Both had the green light.” BUT the pedestrian (that is, the person walking) has the RIGHT OF WAY!

    Crossing that street is the most dangerous thing around here. Cars make sharp wide turns and literally turn so close to the curb, that if you just step down, you can be hit. So many times I stepped off the curve on Empire and Troy and because i look to my right for turning cars, I was saved. This corner is not your average corner where you look and cross, NO> the danger is still there!

    CARS SPEED SO FAST WHEN TURNING, ITS A SAKANA (DANGER).EVEN IF A CAR WANTS TO SLOW DOWN, ITS TO LATE BECAUSE BY THE TIME HE TURNS HE CANT STOP FAST ENOUGH FOR THE PEDESTRIAN WHO IS STEPPING INTO THE STREET.

    I DONT KNOW WHAT THE SOLUTION IS. I INVITE EVERYONE TO COME AND JUST OBSERVE FOR A FEW MINUTES HOW THIS CORNER IS AND YOU WILL SEE THAT CROSSING THERE IS NOT SAFE.

    And for those of you who turn, just slllooowwwwwwwww down.

    I CROSS THAT STREET EVERYDAY AND DRIVERS DO NOT LOOK BEFORE THEY TURN!!!! I BELIEVE THE CHANGE IN THE TRAFFIC CAN ONLY BE A GOOD THING. MAYBE THEY SHOULD ALSO ADD A RED TURNING LIGHT. PEOPLE ARE JUST RECKLESS AND THEY DO NOT HONER THE PEDESTRIAN RIGHT OF WAY.WHY??? TO SAVE TWO SECONDS!!!

    Put a camera or two.
    Once the first driver gets sued
    and its publicized, the others
    will be fearful.
    According to an old AAA report,
    most drivers don’t signal before turning.
    It’s the law and very simple. Not signaling
    confuses the pedestrian and can cause injury and accident.
    There’s an amazing video recreation of a famous airplane story, near disaster, called: ”hanging by a thread.“ There the anouncer states that if certain problems would be fixed: ”It would save property and lives.” Yes, in that order!
    Times before Moshiach: lack of respect for others and diminished value for human life.

    The light should be red for cars that turn and the cross walk signal should be on (the person sign), for a reasonable amount of time, for people to cross. Then the cross walk sign should be off for crossing (the hand sign) and cars should be given an arrow to turn.

  • Only 4 accidents

    Its 4th accident reported on Crownhieghts.info there were LOTS of other accidents not reported (1 in saw middle of the night that involeved 4 parked cars).

    after this empire constuction goes through we will all see how many bikers H”Y will get injurd on Empire Blvd!
