4 People Injured after Car Plows Through Busy Sidewalk

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A car plowed into a busy street corned and ended up in a front yard of a home after loosing control. The incident took place at around 6:00pm today, Monday at the intersection of Lefferts and New York Avenue.

A Shomrim member who was driving up New York witnessed the accident and sprung to action, calling for backup and 911 and began treating the patients, all of whom weren’t Jewish.

According to an eyewitness the driver swerved in attempt to avoid hitting a bicyclist and lost control, driving though two yards and smashing into an SUV parked there. In total 4 people were injured, including a child and an infant who were in the yard, and the cyclist and another pedestrian who was on the corner.

    I HAVE BEEN LIVING ON LEFFERTS AVE AND NEW YORK FOR 38 YEARS SINCE I WAS 2 YEARS OF AGE. I HAVE SEEN COUNTLESS ACCIDENTS IN THIS INTERSECTION, I AM CONSTANTLY CALLING 911 WHEN AN ACCIDENT OCCUR. I AM NOW A MOTHER OF A 12 YEAR OLD, AND NEVER LET HIM CROSS THAT INSECTION.JUST THE OTHER DAY 6/6/06 AT ABOUT FIVE AM A N AMBULETTE RAN INTO THE BUILDING DIRECTLY ACROSS WHERE THE ACCIDENT OCCURED TODAY. SOMTHING HAS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS HAZADOUS INTERSECTION I WOULD LIKE TO SUGGEST PUTT IN SPEED BUMPS ON NEW YORK AVE AND LEFFERTS AVE , CARS OFTEN SPEED TO MAKE THE LIGHT. THERE ARE SCHOOLS , AND MANY CHILDREN NEAR TO WHERE THESE ACCIDENTS OCCUR , BEFORE ANY FATAL TRADEGIES OCCUR. I PRAY THAT THERE WILL BE A SOLUTION TO THISA LONG OVERDUE MATTER. I THINK I WILL BRING IT UP AT THE NEXT COMMUNITY MEETING.

    what you mentioned about “ AMBULETTE RAN INTO THE BUILDING ”
    that has nothing to do with location, its that these “AMBULETTES” and “ACCESS A RIDE” dirve freely like wild animals, and no one stops them.

    maybe start making “ISLAND” and “BIKE LANES” on lefferts to “STOP THE ACCIDENTS”!

    Why are people riding their bicycle on Lefferts Avenue? If you go down one block, there is a bike line on East New York Avenue that runs all the way through Crown Heights to Propect Park, and if you go down one more block there is a bike line running in the opposite direction.

    Why aren’t there speed bumps on Lefferts between Brooklyn & NY? There is Bais Rivka & the day care center. Further down Lefferts towards Flatbush Av there is a block with speed bumps & no school!
