Car Bottoms Out from Road Work

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Road repairs on the streets of Crown Heights are still underway, but one intersection has been the site where a number of cars ‘bottomed out’ as result of the uneven street and got severely damaged.

In three separate incidents minivans that passed the intersection of Carroll Street and Schenectady Avenue stuck an elevated sewer opening and scraped the bottom of their car against it, in all incidents the vehicles popped their airbags and spilled engine and transmission oils.

Road work began early last week and has been completed in parts of the neighborhood but Schenectady remains uncompleted. In these incidents police refused to fill out accident reports claiming that it isn’t considered an automobile accident.

One recourse available for motorists who suffered damage from such incidents can call 311 and fill out a complaint with the Comptroller of the City and get reimbursed for their damages. Drivers are urged to slow down and take extra care when passing over these ‘bumps.’

    I witnessed also smaller vehicles split their front axle over that “bump”… In one incident (Tuesday around 11:25am) the cops filled out a report for that incident at the demand of the driver (a Black male)…

    it happend to me too, costed me 1000 dollars in damage of the bottom of the car, I made a complaint, but allways get lost from one agency to other

    Drive Slower!

    The Crazy New York Drivers think that a bump is supposed to be driven over at excess of 40mph. If you would slow down before the sewer – you wouldn’t destroy the car.

    My car was totalled from that intersection a week ago. 2001 Jetta… Gone.

    This happened to us the last time the streets were redone about 4 years ago. We filed all the paperwork and got a check from the city for $850 which covered all the repairs.

    The city is falling apart under Michael Bloomberg! He is doing away with vital services and wasting soo much money on the new baseball stadiums for the yankees and the mets. He needs to move on … he ignored the mandate for term limits that voters clearly are in favor of!

    Time to let the next guy have a chance to do a better job.

    the city has no right to keep the streets unpaved and uneven for extended periods of time in between working ,this happened only under bloomberg ,he found a way to save money by doing many long stretches of roads together ,and ruining peoples cars at the same time.whoever drives over these streets under these conditions are causing damage to their car even if it is not apparent at the time.

    there are now signs posted on Schenectady Avenue that the road will be plowed on MONDAY
