Pedestrian Struck by a Car Crossing Kingston and Montgomery

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A pedestrian was struck by a car and sustained injuries as she was crossing Kingston Avenue and Montgomery Street earlier this afternoon, Thursday. The incident took place at around 5:00pm when a Black woman crossed in the crosswalk, and a turning minivan driven by a Yid did not see her and struck her, knocking her down.

Hatzalah and Shomrim received many simultaneous calls regarding the incident, and in the confusion they were initially dispatched to the wrong location. A Shomrim member on his way up Kingston Avenue en route to the call spotted the accident and made the call to other members and Hatzalah alerting them to the right location.

Members of Hatzalah treated the woman, who was complaining of general injuries, then transported her to Kings County Hospital while the driver refused medical attention.

have some sensitivity- you would never post pictures of the victim if it was a jew.
    show some respect.

  • The Rov

I think its fantastic and positive that hatzalah will now treat gentiles with the same urgency as yidden. It is also consistent with Halacha (save possible for desecration of shabbso etc)

  • Ch mother

I’m not surprised in the least bit!
Last year at the end of my pregnancy, a mini van with a frum lady drove almost on top of me and my daughter, she was going so fast and just turned the corner, but by the middle of the block she realized that she might have hit me so she suddenly stopped then realized I was OK so she just continued.
When cars turn they don’t look they just GO!!!

  • teach our children

I do not know if this situation was as such, but please, we need to teach our children to wait and cross when the light is GREEN!!! I have had many times that I have had to stop short and/or honk at people who just stand in the middle of the road. There is a reason we have lights, if we don’t hold by them, why are they there?!
I hope that everyone is okay and is more cautious with our lives!

EMG!! (which stands for “Ehmygawd”) Is she alright I hope she is.

there is not a singe picture showing the face of the victim. That in itself is enough to protect the privacy of the victim. The same is done for Jewish victims. The face is never shown.
So please take comment and shove it!

  • Teach Your Kids

    Dont know what happened here
but Some pedestrions are ignorant of drivers they cross without looking (though they have the right of way).
We were driving yesterday at E New York bet Troy and Schenectedy, and a kid from the public school began walking in front of the car looking the other way.
(luckely there were no cars and i was able to swereve across the Yellow Line nearly …)

  • lucky escape

When pedestrians cross on walk, cars can still turn into the junction. I nearly got hit yesterday by a young woman driving a very similar car on Crown & Brooklyn yesterday at 4:30. Again, I had the light, she was turning into Brooklyn, & she didn’t want to wait to let me cross.

WHAT’S THE MATTER WITH YOU, LADY?!

  • to teach our children

I hate to tell u, you can teach your children to cross at green, when cars are turning it IS GREEN for pedestrians!! My daughter was hit when it was green her turn to go!!! So teach the DRIVERS to be aware of children crossing the street when it is their light!

  • Inda Know

I am a driver. I always stop for pedestrians, WHEN I SEE THEM. I look, but 1) there is a blind spot at about 45 degrees where things “disappear” and 2) pedestrians often stand on corners and after I start my turn (we BOTH have green lights), they suddenly descend to the street and start crossing. PEDESTRIANS, don’t take your right of way for granted. Make eye contact with the driver before starting to cross your street (even with the walk light)! Avoid sudden movements into the street to cross, even if you have the right of way, and especially with strollers. It doesn’t pay to be “in the right”, and in the hospital anyway, H.V. We’re all in this safety thing together. Drivers and pedestrians must work together to assure a good result, even if one or the other makes a slight mistake by error or omision!

  • Time to start taking life easy

Pedestrians always have the right away.
I’m living in Crown Heights now for a few years. It took me a very long time to get used to looking before crossing on a green light.
HOW DO YOU JUST NOT SEE A PERSON????
I’m not trying to make the driver feel guilty, I’m talking to all drivers out there.

P.S I agree the victim was disrespected.

  • CH cynic

On a side note, and a pet peeve of mine, women walking with strollers and/or little kids, WHY DO YOU ENTER THE INTERSECTION WHEN CARS HAVE A GREEN LIGHT??? ITS LIKE YOUR PUSHING THE STROLLER INTO THE STREET AS BAIT FOR A CAR TO HIT IT AND THE BABY INSIDE.IF YOU INSIST ON GETTING A TWO FOOT HEAD START, WHY DONT YOU WALK IN FRONT OF THE STROLLER! LET YOURSELF GET HIT FOR YOUR OWN STUPIDITY!

  • SICK & TIRED

to DISGUSTED. YOUR COMMENT IS DISGUSTING. AND TO CYNIC, YOU ARE RIGHT. AND WHAT ABOUT THE PARENTS WHO LET THEIR LITTLE SIX YEAR OLDS CROSS THE STREETS WITH YOUNGER YET SIBLINGS?!

  • alll of you

IMMATURE BABIES!! WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING TO ARGUE ABOUT!!
JUST SAY TEHILLIM FOR THE INJURED AND THATS IT! ENOUGH!!
    HAVE A GOOD SHABBOS…

  • talk about yenting!!

why are you all so worried that people are looking ur doing the exact same thing just online instead of real life!

  • also a ch mom

to ch mother: you’re lucky- my husband was actually hit by a frum lady who drove off never to be identified leaving him with injuries which while not major baruch hasehm, left him with great pain for a while

  • dangerous new york driver!

its about time people learned how to drive in this retarded place!! when a pedestrian is crossing the street, its not normal that motorists drive around the corner, putting the pedestrian at extremely grave risk!!!

  • new york police@fault

if only the police would be an example to the rest of us,and slow down and be cautious for pedestrians then perhaps its citizens will follow…!

  • Atten Pedesrians:

The main time to be carefull is on a rainy night!
CARS CANNOT SEE YOU even if you cross in the crosswalk!
