Pedestrian Struck Outside Oholei Torah

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — At around 9:30 this morning, Tuesday, a woman crossing the street was struck by a SUV. The incident happened in front of Oholei Torah, on the Eastern Pkwy service lane, between Brooklyn and New York Ave. A women was driving a SUV in the service lane, when another women suddenly appeared between two parked school busses.

When the woman driving the SUV saw the figure pop up between the busses, she swerved out of the way; slightly hitting the pedestrian and swiping the parked busses.

Hatzalah was called and arrived within minutes. The pedestrian was treated for her injuries and transported to a local Hospital.

The SUV narrowly missed hitting the women head on crossing the street, thereby preventing what could only be described as a terrible accident.

How are we supposed to teach road safety to kids when adults are so reckless? Everybody knows you don’t cross roads between parked vehicles, & buses hide people even more. OT is so close to the lights @ Brooklyn. No excuse! I hope the lady is OK. The driver must have been traumatized also.

Why do someone need to cross the street between parked cars?
there is crossing street for it!!!
you could lose 5 minutes in your life but don’t lose your life in 5 minutes. We adult are supposed to be the right example for our children.
the pedestain is very lucky B/C the driver had such a good reflex.

  • poor driver

I feel so so so bad for the driver. THis is one of my worst fears when I am driving. THere is NO WAY to see somebody coming out from between 2 cars. It’s a bracha for BOTH of them that there were no serious injuries

  • to safety first

wow this must be coming from a perfect person that dosent make eny mistakes whatsoever and when yea its because of being ”RECKLESS” yea right!!!

i agree with these comments. the pedestrian is being very unfair to drivers when they cross in such a way. if they get hit the driver is not liable at all. CROSS AT THE LIGHT. WHEN YOU DART OUT FROM BETWEEN PARKED CAR THE DRIVER HAS NO WAY OF SEEING YOU!

  • no joke.

The Pedestrian Should Really Opologize to the Driver.
i see young bochrim crossing like this all the time. i cringe every time. PARENTS TELL YOUR KIDS TO STOP!

  • ANSWER to ME!:)

    B”H
    Dear ME!:)
Well, in answer to your question, with Oholei Torah families, everything’s relative — some are more frum than others.
    (sorry, I couldn’t resist!!!) :)

But seriously, it must have been a Yid, at that hour, no? Yid or not, a refuah sheleimah, mamosh!!!

  • mother of boy in OT

your comment about “some are more frum than others” was unnecessary and has absolutely no connection to this accident this morning. It only shows a lack of ahavas yisroel and a mentality of judging others which is not what the rebbe taught. Oh, but you couldnt resist, could you?

Please all drivers (especialy SUV) when you pass a school with kids age 3 years, drive carefuly and slow enough to stop in an emergency.
also anyone driving on any eastern parkway service lain (especialy between Brooklyn Ave and Albany) drive slow enaough to stop if someone runs out between cars (which always happens on these blocks)
I DONT CARE WHO IS AT FAULT!!!
