CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — Tuesday evening two cars collided in the intersection of Brooklyn Avenue and Eastern Parkway, prompting a number of bystanders who witnessed the incident scrambling for their phones and calling Hatzalah.

One of the cars, A Nissan SUV rear ended a Car Service Town Car who was turning from Brooklyn on to Eastern Parkway, injuring a passenger in the Town Car and the driver of the SUV. While none of those involved in the accident were Jewish Hatzalah and Shomrim were the first to the scene and gave expert medical care along with securing the scene until police arrived.
Hatzalah transported one patient to Kings County Hospital, while the other was transported by FDNY EMS.
While police were filling out the accident report another motorist attempted to go around a police car and turn onto the parkway, which was shutdown due to the accident, was stopped by police and when asked for his license and registration he produced documents which all turned out to be forged and fake. He was immediately arrested.
Shochein Hashchuna
kol hakavod to hatzalah and ppl for calling them, but i ask you, what is 911 for? plesae remember that not every crash has jews in it, and not every time is hatzalah the best call.

TO Shochein Hashchuna:
While Hatzalah was established to meet a need within the various Jewish communities, it is nothing but a Kiddush Hashem, and in our case Kiddush Lubavitch when Hatzalah responds to a call. It can only improve relations with our non-Jewish neighbors.
Don’t forget the fact that when an accident occurs, especially at night, that it is not always possible to know who is “in the car”. And when an accident happens, medically, every second counts.
Can you imagine the outrage from the media and community if someone called Hatzalah, they refused to come because the person was not Jewish, and then the person died (chas v’shalom) because they had to wait for FDNY?
Everyone in Hatzalah is an EMT or a Paramedic; they are medical professionals, and the credo of medical professionals around the world is “First do no harm.” That means that refusing to treat someone counts as harm. Would you like someone to refuse you treatment because you are Jew?
Proud of Hatzalah
Ari Herrmann Great work. What amazing devotion you have to the community Thank You!!!!

As an active member in hatzolo I agree with Miryam. We absolutely respond to all calls and many MVA’s that involve goyim. Any calls that come in are automatically dispatched wuthout question of Race or color.
While we are a Jewish targeted organization- very few of us, and there are many, would refuse a call from a goy. The press sometimes complain as do cops at times – both of these are rare and far apart and are usally disgruntled folks just looking to knock hatzolo or anything jewish especially a Jewish emergency based services for whatever selfserving reasons they concoct in their minds.
So fear not, the feeble attempt to try to sway what we gladly will never materialize…might I suggest sochein haschuna change his name to Sochein Hametumtom ;)

To all: I agree with Shochein Hashchuna on this point. Unless you are a volunteer, we can’t expect people to stop what they are doing, risk an accident, and spend an hour or more of their time because you appreciate the Kiddush haShem. Those volunteers do all the above for their Ahavas YISROEL, otherwise they would be doing this full-time for any emergency.
Thanks to all Hatzalah members in our community- some take their service for granted.
Was there
I happened to see the accident with a friend, we did not look into the cars to see whether or not the people inside were “ours” or not. Our first reaction was to call Hatzalah and that’s what we did.
To Miryam
I will not give my opinion on who Hatzalah should/should not serve. However, I would like to ask – are you the wife of a hatzalah volunteer? How many times has your husband left the shabbos table to respond to the call of a non-jew. Yes, if Hatzalah is called they MUST respond and MUST treat the patient with the respect and courtesy due every human being – and they do. But why should my husband be woken at 2 am to respond to a “nisht unzere”?
Driver
All Jewish cars should have a huge Yellow Star on the trunk & hood so we can see at a glance if the occupants are ours. If so, we call Hatzalah. If not, let ’em die.
Of course, the problem will arise when the driver has stolen a Jewish-owned car or his Jewish employer asked him to run an errand & gets in an accident. If some good citizen called Hatzalah, he must IMMEDIATELY cancel the call & let the goy bleed to death. After all, we should only take care of our own.
Please remember
We must remember also that if we don’t call 911 FDNY will not be sent. If a fire starts it will jeopardize the patients as well as our EMT’s. The firemen are needed at these scenes for hazard control and patient protection as well as to use their tools to remove parts of the vehicle (if necessary) so that the EMT’s can remove the patients without causing further harm. They also assist with medical care when needed.
