After Months without Incident, Two Cars Collide on Empire and Troy
CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — It’s been quite a few months since there was a serious accident in the intersection of Empire and Troy, but last night it happened again. Two cars collided as one tried to make a turn and injuring those involved.

According to witnesses the gray GMC, which was driven by a Jewish woman attempted to cross over Empire going up Troy Avenue, while a blue Volvo driven by an elderly black woman who was traveling from Troy to Albany on Empire, each driver blamed the other for taking the red light.
A Shomrim member that lives on the corner heard the sound of the collision and immediately called for backup and for Hatzalah, the area quickly filled with Shomrim members, emergency and medical responders all of whom began giving treatment to both drivers.
The Jewish woman refused to be transported after being treated, and Hatzalah transported the elderly woman to Kings County Hospital for checkups.
Letitia James, a New York City Councilwoman who happened to pass by took a moment to stop and observe the scene, and once all the patients were transported Ms. James struck up a conversation with one of the Shomrim coordinators telling him that “It’s the first time I’ve seen Shomrim in action and I am very impressed.”

This corner is infamous. There have been countless acidents with very serious injuries. Someone from the area should put together a petition for speed bumps, have the residents sign and call Community Board 9.
