Many Accidents across Brooklyn, One Fatal
CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — As snow began falling Tuesday afternoon the accident reports came flooding in, the first in Crown Heights was involving a police car from the 73rd Precinct on Eastern Parkway and another vehicle which collided head on. The reports then came in from across the neighborhood causing treacherous traffic conditions in addition to the treacherous driving conditions.
Pictures from a number of the scenes in the Extended Article.
The worst accident happened on Flatbush Avenue between Eastern Parkway and Empire Boulevard where a Lexus carrying two passengers and a driver, all one family, lost control and slammed into a light pole critically injuring the driver and entrapping the three in the car, NYPD ESU cut apart the car and extricated the victims and then transported them to a local hospital, where the driver later died from his injuries.
Other reported accidents were on Empire, Bedford, Brooklyn and Albany, as well as on Albany between Montgomery and Empire where two vans and one SUV all went sliding into parked cars, one of them into a large pile of garbage bags.
Police were forced to shut down parts of Albany and Brooklyn Avenues for periods while they waited for sanding trucks.
As of 6:00 AM outdoor temperatures have risen above the freezing point causing lots of melting, and the national weather service has issued a flood warning;

Once again, commuting today will be slow and slippery, so make extra time and plan your commute accordingly.

Thanks
how terrible. Once again, thank you ch.info for your outstanding coverage.
Also, a quick reminder to all home owners, PLEASE shovel and salt your sidewalks, terrible accidents happen when people slip on the snow and ice.
I know too many accident victims...

May Hashem protect us!!!
”In a place where there are no mentschen, be a mentsch!“ So, everyone PLEASE use your intelligence, and drive like mentschen already!!!
ALSO, with all the accidents there are, CONSISTENTLY, on Empire, WHEN ARE THE POLICE going to change the settings on the traffic signals on Empire, so that it’s no longer THE fast way to go from east to west (and west to east)? Everyone who drives here knows that Empire is the fastest street in these directions, and this is also the reason that there are so many collisions, pedestrian hits, etc. on this street, R”L”.
lil ole me
was that a convertible car to start off with?

Hi,
First refuah sheleima to those who were in any bad accidents…..
Second, I think that every person who has a car should get for the winter, snow wheels or chains. Just for the safety .
I see police cars sliding away, and I think they should get snow wheels….
I hope nothing ever happens like that again….

It took me 2 hours to get home from work last night. where it would only take me 15 minuts on a normal day it would of been faster to walk home than sitting in traffic.
