Giant Menorah Lit in Center of Springfield

Last night, Rabbi Chaim Kosofsky was joined by Springfield, Massachusetts, Mayor Domenic Sarno and Congressman Richard Neil for a Menorah lighting ceremony in Court Square. Also, children from the Lubavitcher Yeshiva Academy filled the courtyard to see the Menorah lit, which it was so big it had to be lit with a lift.

Rabbi Kosofsky told 22News the light of the Menorah, no matter what your faith is, is a symbol of light in the darkness of life, especially with all of the violence around the world these last few weeks. He said, “We don’t have to be affected by what’s going on around us, as long as we decide to be that light, then we have a clear view and we can make a difference.”

Congressman Neal said the Menorah deserves to stand in Springfield’s front yard; “I think that our Constitution guarantees that a very important element of American life is freedom to worship as we might like.”
