Taylor Talks: Are You a Lamplighter?

In the olden days, a lamplighter would go from place to place and light up the dark streets. With electrical street lights, the job has become somewhat obsolete, but the premise of the lamplighter still exists in the spiritual sense.

We live in a dark world, filled with falsehood and evil. The only person that we can change is ourselves. If you look within, and tap into your own light, and express it wherever you go, you can destroy the falsehood and negativity that abounds, and inspire others to do the same.

As we approach Yud-Tes Kislev and Chanukka, Rabbi Pinchas Taylor reminds us that even though we’ve heard and said this analogy so many times, we need to make sure to live it ourselves. The rest of the world is indeed waiting for it.
