8:00pm: The Meaning of 28 Nissan

This week’s edition of MyLife: Chassidus Applied with Rabbi Simon Jacobson, Episode 64, will air tonight, Sunday, here on CrownHeights.info, beginning at 8:00pm. This week Rabbi Jacobson will address the topics: The Meaning of 28 Nissan; Uninspired Community; Unhealthy Parents’ Lifestyle; Emotional Intelligence and Character Refinement (Pt. 2).

Community is an integral component in Judaism. A Shul stands at the hub of Shabbos and holidays, Torah study and prayer. But what can you do if you are not inspired by your community and synagogue? Or if you feel you have outgrown them?

In response to many passionate comments to last week’s discussion on character refinement, Rabbi Jacobson will respond to the challenge: How to create an a personality-development revolution in our educational systems, through a combined partnership between parents and schools.

Other topics to be addressed in this week’s episode include: “My father is destroying himself. He does almost nothing with his life. Eats too much. Is extremely overweight and does not sleep well. It is very difficult to see him this way. We as children have tried many different ways to get him to take care of himself but to no avail. What can we do? Is there any hope?”

“Although all of the answers to life’s challenges are in Torah in general and in Chassidus in particular, it can often be difficult to find and trace the solution to these specific issues in Torah. Can we study psychology or other philosophies and trace their source in Torah/Chassidus in order to directly deal with an issue the way psychology recommends, but still according to Torah?”

In addition, Rabbi Jacobson will continue reviewing essays submitted in the MyLife: Chassidus Applied contest. Each week he will present key ideas of selected essays, and also analyze the elements and criteria that made the essay stand out, while also providing guidance in how to improve your capacity in applying Chassidus, helping you become next year’s winner! In this week’s episode he will be discussing the next top essays about positive psychology, behavioral and cognitive therapy, parables, and the power of mystery.

This hour-long dose of insights is meant to inform, inspire and empower us by applying the teachings of Chassidus to help us face practical and emotional challenges and difficulties in our personal lives and relationships. When asked about the sensitive topics he has been addressing, Rabbi Simon Jacobson commented, “I understand that the stakes are high, but the silence and lack of clarity on matters plaguing the community can no longer go unaddressed. The stakes of not providing answers are even higher.”

The on-going series has provoked a significant reaction from the community, with thousands of people viewing each live broadcast and hundreds of questions pouring in. At the root of every question and personal challenge tackled by the series is the overarching question: Does Judaism have the answers to my personal dilemmas?

Each episode is jam-packed with eye-opening advice from the Rebbeim, gleaned from uncovering surprising gems in their letters, sichos and maamorim that address our personal issues with disarming relevance.
