8:00pm: Parents’ Involvement in Children’s Marriages

This week’s edition of MyLife: Chassidus Applied with Rabbi Simon Jacobson, Episode 49, will air tonight, Sunday, here on CrownHeights.info beginning at 8:00pm. This week Rabbi Jacobson will address the topics: Parents Involvement in Children’s Marriages, the Baal Teshuvah’s Plight, Friendships, Competition and More.

“My parents disagree with my spouse’s approach to educating our children. What should I do?” While most parents are well-intending, what is the Rebbe’s advice about parents intervening in their children’s marriages? Is it better to honor our parent’s wishes or preserve shalom bayis?

How should a Baal Teshuvah deal with the frustration at their inability to integrate their creativity into their new identity, and disappointment when their idealism shatters? How do we maintain our individuality and passion in traditional community where there is so much pressure to conform and fit in?

Other topics to be addressed in episode 49 include: What lessons, if any, can be learned from the secular world and can they be integrated? How much information should we strive to communicate when inspiring others with Yiddishkeit?  Does action supersede education? Should we dilute the full intensity of Jewish commitment? How do we maintain the integrity of Torah while communicating in ways that people can absorb it, without frightening them off?

Additionally, this episode will discuss the importance Chassidus places on friendships: How to be a friend and how to find a friend;as well as how to deal with friendships that become competitive.

This hour-long dose of insight is meant to inform, inspire and empower us by applying the teachings of Chassidus to help us face practical and emotional challenges and difficulties in our personal lives and relationships. The stakes of not providing answers are even higher.”
