8:00pm: Toxic People, Caretaking, Advice for the Elderly, Looking to the Rebbe and His Igros

This week’s edition of MyLife: Chassidus Applied with Rabbi Simon Jacobson, Episode 40, will air tonight, Sunday, here on CrownHeights.info beginning at 8:00pm. This week Rabbi Jacobson will address the following topics: Toxic People, Caretaking, Advice for the Elderly and Looking to the Rebbe and His Igros.

Have you ever come across a toxic person? Toxic personalities manifest in many shapes and forms, and can be family, friends, co-workers or bosses. It can be someone so insecure and thin-skinned that we walk around him on eggshells for fear of saying the wrong thing. Or it may be someone who is overly controlling. Some toxic people feed on our weaknesses and make us feel bad or ashamed; some play the role of aggressor and others the role of victim, trapping us in a cycle of trying to save them all the time.  Toxic people emotionally affect those around them with their drama and are exhausting to be around. While it may be easy to identify such people, are there any tips and strategies for dealing with them? How does a healthy person handle a dysfunctional person?

What words of comfort can be said to the aging population as they confront long-term illnesses, become obsolete in the workplace, and still struggle to make ends meet? What are our responsibilities toward our parents and grandparents when the time comes to be caregivers?

How to deal with my non-frum family members who carry a lot of animosity toward me, and toward my lifestyle?  No matter what I do, they just won’t accept me.

Tune in this Sunday night, October 26, to My Life: Chassidus Applied episode 40, in which Rabbi Jacobson will address these questions. He will also discuss a sensitive topic, which many Lubavitchers find themselves confronted with: Why do we call out to the Rebbe and ask for his brochos instead of calling out to Hashem? Additionally, is there legitimacy to looking in the Igros (letters) of the Rebbe? Can we – and how do we – get answers from the Rebbe today?

This hour-long dose of insight is meant to inform, inspire and empower us by applying the teachings of Chassidus to help us face practical and emotional challenges and difficulties in our personal lives and relationships. The stakes of not providing answers are even higher.”
